I am 39 weeks, Last week I took a tbl spoon of castor oil, nothing happened except I got the runs, the next day I took another tbl spoon, nothing happened at all. Maybe now that I am a bit further along I will try it again as I have tried everything. I have heard good stories & bad stories about it... But it can't be too harmful if alot of women take it right!

I'm 4 days past my due date and although I'd like to go in labor and have seriously considered castor oil, I am just a wuss at heart and can't do it ha. I just know with my luck I wouldn't go in labor I'd just be cramped up with the runs. I am going to eat some prunes which I figure enough of them will have same effect but at least they taste good ha.

i dont know if castor oil works.. i took it 4 times. the last time i took it i did go into labour that night, but i dont know if it was from the castor oil. i had a beautiful baby boy after 29 hours of extremely painful labour! i know next time i will wait it out and see what happens.. i wont use castor oil again.

I decided to take the castor oil last wednesday the 21st at about 730 at nite and my water broke the next morning at 130! i was in labor for only 4 and a half hours and this is my first baby so i was very lucky! i had taken 4 tablespoons of castor oil along with root beer. it was nasty going down but it definitely did the trick. advice to anyone considering taking the oil- make sure your body is ready by being dilated and effaced b/c if you're not you'll just get major runs and no labor (you'll get runs either way you know)

I took castor oil yesterday and nothing really happened except for a few trips to the toilet. It really wasn't that bad at all. I felt slightly sick just after taking it and it probably took about two hours until i had my first bowel movements. As i was quite scared of the whole process i only took the lowest recommended dose on the bottle, 10ml, which is not even a tablespoon. It did work as a laxative but i had no uncomfortable cramps with it at all. From what i've heard it is the cramps that are meant to kickstart labour???? Anyway, it didn't work for me:( I've just taken another dose today. Two tablespoons so hopefully something will happen today, if not I will not try it again. I'm only doing it to avoid my induction which is on wednesday. After reading about inductions it has really scared me, and three girls in my antenatal group has been induced so far and all of them have had really long labours......

Yes, in my case castor oil worked for both of my pregnancies.. I had no bad bowel movements, and my labor on both babies lasted only 4 hours. The secret is taking about 4 table spoons. You can't be scared to take a lot. thats the only way it will work

I did castor oil. It worked for me. I had bad BM, but after I was done....an hour later I was in labor. I asked my obgyn about it first. She said if the baby is ready to come it will, if it's not then you will poop alot. She said no harm will come to your baby from taking it. People say the baby will have a BM in the sac...that is not true ...if that does happen it is caused by the stress of the labor not the castor oil.

this is cat07 again. i was really thinking about taking the castor oil but i decided against it. i did walk for a long time and had long s_x. But i think what put me in labor was stressing out real bad the morning of. I almost had an nervous breakdown around 8:00am and 10:30am i started having contractions. and the next morning at 9:30 i had a beautiful baby girl. she was born on March 26

PLEASE DON NOT USE CASTOR OIL!!!! I was 5 days overdue and and decided to try it. About 5 hours later i was on the toilet. The worst pains and lots of diahrea. I was having severe BH contractions... about every 8 minutes for an hour or so. I thought the stuf worked. No baby.... a week later i went in for induction and after 13 hrs of labor they rushed me in for an emergency C. MY baby was wrapped around the cord 5 times and with every contration he was trying to pull down but was getting tightened by the cord. There are a few stories out there that work.. but it is just to risky to put your baby's life in danger just because your tied of being preggo.... Believe me i know. The last month goes by so slow... but please be patient. And definetly don't try it if you are less than 40 weeks. Mommy of 14 month old boy and 33 week preggo girl.

I used caster oil with my second child, I had her that day. With my 3rd is did not make me go into labor, and it made my son have a BM.

I took it twice and all it did was make me have contractions for a few hours but it never put me into labor.
