I just got home from my appointment, and it was not bad at all. They check for dialting anyway, and it's just a little bit longer, nothing to worry about......just a little uncomfortable, but are we not all going to have babies soon?? If it was that bad, women wouldn't be able to have babies!!!!

Had a membrane sweep this morning at 40+3 weeks and I have to say that although I was really dreading the appointment (fear of the unknown, I guess), the sweep itself was a bit uncomfortable but not as bad as I had imagined. Felt a lot of pressure but the pain was over in a few minutes. Just waiting with fingers crossed to see if it has worked!

I had my membranes ruptured with both my kids so far and I didn't think it hurt. However, it did make the contractions come a lot stronger from then on and I was more uncomfortable than I had been before.

Had it done this morning and my Dr. said that I was already 3-4 cm so it would make it alot less uncomfortable. I have to say it was not bad at all. Now I just have cramping and more regular contractions. Please dont be afraid to do this because of what you read, it will only make you more tense and cause more discomfort then need be. Good Luck....

I had my membranes stripped at my 37 week appointment. I didn't think it hurt at all. I also lost my mucuous plug that night-so I'm thankful for that. One thing I'm learning about pregnancy is that each woman is SO different!

I'm at 39 weeks.. I went to my doctors today and she said i was 2-3 cm already and asked if I would like a membrane sweep.. I said I would and really it's nothing to worry about.. Yes it is uncomfortable but that's it.. Just relax and you'll be fine..

I had my first membrane sc___pe on the 2nd of dec. and it hurt but I really want my baby out so I delt with the pain, you have to remember it cant last forever and if you really want your labor to start sooner but naturally it is the way to go. I go back tomorow for another which is dem. 8th. (the pain in mine could be from my tilted uterus which makes it a little harder for doctors to do the sweep)

REAL ANSWER FOR WHAT A MEMBRANE SWEEP:Sweeping or Stripping of the Membranes Your baby is contained inside of a sac of amniotic fluid in your uterus. A number of membranes attach this sac to the inside of the your uterus. In order to encourage dilation of your cervix, these membranes need to be separated from the lower part of your uterus. To do this, your health care provider will insert a finger into your cervix, and, using a rotating motion, "sweep" the membranes from the side of your uterus. This helps your body to release prostaglandins, which will encourage contractions and the dilation of your cervix. Some women find that this is an uncomfortable procedure, however, it is typically performed at your local clinic, and you can go home afterwards and wait for the results. There are some risks a__sociated with this procedure, including: infection, bleeding, and accidental rupture of the amniotic sac. However, these complications are quite rare.

I just got back from my doctors, and he did a stretch and sweep. he warned me beforehand that it would hurt and it did!! I think he was scared i was going to hit him!!!! It felt like he was going to rip me in half! I am now very crampy, and have had some very light spotting. The doc said he was't sure if it would work or not because i was only 1cm dilated :( im 40 weeks now, due in 2 days so im gonna keep my fingers crossed.......

I had my membranes stripped yesterday at my dr appt. It was quite uncomfortable, but tolerable. How long should I spot afterward? I was already dilated 3cm and 70% effaced.

i am 40 weeks and 1 day overdue i had a m/s this morning as i've been in slow labor since last week . i'm already 3 cms dilated but got one done purely cos i want the pregnancy over with, they don't hurt anything like a speculum you just need to relax i was quite shocked of all the blood considering it didn't hurt, it's just uncomfortable i suppoes nobody likes being prodded about, also they can only do one if they can reach the cervix and the cervix is quite thin

Hey guys, I had my baby on April 16. I had my membrane stripped on the 13th and i started to bleed and he stripped it., Id tell you guys, it hurt til i told him to stop. Than 2 days later which was on the 15th i was having back cramps and contraction and look what happend?! I was in labor all day on the 15th til morning of 16th.. My daughter had come and Ive been blessed. It worth it.

Gretchen - December 27

I had this done 4 days ago and so far nothing! I am 39 weeks -- 2 cm. dialated--75% efaced. It most certainly is NOT painful---a little uncomfortable. But--if you can't take that, how in world will you be able to survive labor?? My Doc said that stripping the membranes works for about 30% of women......

Bonnie - December 28

What part of it does the pain come from? The doc checked me for dialation last week with fingers, it didn't bother me at all (tho I was not dialated at all). But when they do a pap, that speculum thing always hurts. So is it the fingers that hurts you or the actual messing around with the cervix?
