I've also heard that and I have read that the proper way to do that is to put a warm compress on your b___st while manually stimulating or pumping with a b___st pump on the other for 15 min. on each side until contractions begin and then you can stop. If contractions begin to subside then continue to pump each b___st for 5 min. at a time until contractions intensify again.

My baby is due on the 29th of this month and my daughter starts 1st grade on the 25th and has an Open House on the 23rd. I really want to be there for her on these days and I want to take her to cla__s every day at least for the first week until she is comfortable and settled in. I don't want her to feel like no one is there for her because of the new baby. The only choice if I am in the hospital is to send her with her grandmother and I just don't think that is the same. I don't want her to feel pushed aside but I am so afraid that I will go in labor that week or the next. It would be great if he would come out the week before all that when I will be 38 weeks pregnant but I know I have no say-so in that. Since it is technicall full-term does anyone think that my doctor would induce?

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago. I tried everything to induce myself and nothing worked. My Dr. was going to induce me at 38 weeks, but
i talked her into 37. I went into the hospital dilated to a 1 and 50%, my Dr. put the gel on my cervix and we waited, then 5 hrs later she came back and checked me and no change - so she did it again, 5 hrs later they checked me and still no change- I cried- I had nothing to eat for 13 hrs at that pointand was so emotional. They started the potosium, and 7 hrs later my Dr came and checked on me- Still no change- So three methods of induction and 17 hrs later, the Dr. broke my water. then I started labor and 4.5 hrs later I had my son. So I am now a firm believer that if the baby isn't ready, it isn't ready! I tried everything- I was so big, it was my third child I was hot, I didn't want to be pregnant anymore- I knew I was being induced, but it wasn't soon enough- I tried up until the day I went to the hospital- So be patient, it will come- Soon you will be holding your precious baby like I am. Good luck and take care of those babies.

Well, this baby has to come out and my doctor won't induce until 39 weeks which is the week my daughter starts school. I turn 39 weeks on Monday, she has her Open House on Tuesday, and she starts school on Thursday. I know babies don't come until they are ready but this isn't just a matter of me being tired of pregnancy. He has to come out so big sis doesn't get the shaft. She is only six. I think it is alot to ask of her to settle into a new year at school without her parents. It really just send a message that her needs will always be put on the back burner with the new baby around. So baby brother has to come out at 38 weeks no matter what. Of course, again, I have no control over that and he is probably going to pop out right when I don't want him too. I would rather be two weeks late than send my daughter to school without support from her parents but there is no promise that will happen either.

I am currently 37 weeks pregnant. My due date is on the first day of school for me. (I am in my fifth year at OU) My doctor offered to induce me at 38 weeks if I choose to. I was scared to ask her because I didn't want her to think I was a "bad" mom for wanting my baby to come a little early for my benefit. She brought it up and said everything would be okay because babies are considered full term at 38 weeks. All you need to do is just ask your doctor. I think it is nice that your are still keeping your daughter's thoughts and feelings into consideration. A lot of second time parents tend to forget that they have feelings too and you don't want her to have resentment towards your new little one. Good Luck and please let me know what your doc says. ~~~ Crystal

Jen- Can't the babies father that your daughter to school if you have the baby? I'm due on the 31. but when you go to the doctors and they check you to see if you are thinned out and dialated then you should go home and drink the castor oil. .. Good Luck

I had my Dr. induce at 37 instead of 38 because my daughter was in a softball playoffs and didn't want to miss it. You have to also remember that you are not super mom and you have to recover too. I had my third child on Friday afternoon and Monday night was sitting at my daughters softball game. I paid for it too, the next week I had headaches and different problems and I think it was because I pushed myself too soon. I know how important it is, my son is starting kinder. this year and I would want to be there for him, just ask your Dr. it shouldn't be a problem.

My husband is not the father of my 6 year old daughter. Our son is his first baby and though he loves my daughter like she is his own I don't think it is the same as having her mother there for her. Her father lives in Salisbury and he would have to take the entire day off just take her to school. And even if he does that on her first day, she really needs someone there with her the first week. Judging from Kindergarten it will take her about a week to settle in and be comfortable with first grade. I need to walk her to cla__s and talk with her teacher to see how she is settling in. I don't think that it will be as beneficial to her if someone else does this because you know how information gets lost as it is pa__sed from person to person. I'll be 37 weeks on Monday and I haven't dilated a drop. This child isn't even thinking of coming out yet. I talked to one of my doctor's on Wednesday and she said they won't induce until 39 weeks unless it is medically necessary to do so before but when I go back this week I will see a different doctor and I will ask him if he can induce me just 3 days before 39 weeks because I turn 39 weeks on a Monday, my daughter's Open House is on that Tuesday, and her first day is on Thursday. I don't want to miss Open House because you get alot of helpful info there but if we do, we do. I'm just concerned about getting my little girl settled into school. If he induces me 3 days before 39 weeks it will be on a Friday and we will have almost a week for everyone to get used to the new baby and settle in a little. If the doctor's could guarantee that I would stay pregnant until 41 weeks then that would be fine to but they can't guarantee that anymore than I can. It's just that at 39 weeks on a Monday and then she starts school on Thursday, like Trish said, too much too soon. But I want all you girls to know that I am 36 weeks and 3 days and I have been taking Evening Primrose Oil since 34 weeks and 1day and my cervix is still locked up tight. I'm not trying to go into labor before 38 weeks or anything but EPO is supposed to help ripen the cervix so I figured it couldn't hurt. Well, apparently it doesn't help either. Thanks to everyone for all the advice!

Preeclampsia is a syndrome tht occurs only in pregnancy. It is characterized by high blood pressure, protein in theurine, and increased swelling of the legs and feet. 6-8% of pregnancies are affected, 85% of which are first-time pregnancies. Mothers whe are over 40, teenage mothers, and mothers with diabetes, or kidney, or rheumatologic disease like lupus, or a history of blood pressure problems are also at a higher risk. Basically Pre-eclampsia is just high blood pressure. You can have systoms like sudden swelling (especially in the feet and legs) or sudden weight gain; persistant headaches, flashing lights, blurred vision, or spots before your eyes; and/or upper abdominal pain on the right side of the body, just below the ribcage. I hope I have helped.

Here are some methods I researched to prepare for or induce labor naturally:
1. Evening Primrose Oil - taken 2 orally and 2 as a v____al suppository nightly up to one week before your due date will soften cervix and ease labor. (Also, may prevent pre-eclampsia in third trimester). (Worked for my sister who labored for 2 hours and pushed out her first baby at 7lbs in 30 minutes)
2. Nature's Sunshine 5-W capsules - taken 3 times daily for the 5 weeks leading to your due date. This will tone your uterus and help ease labor.
3. Red Raspberry Leaf Tea or Capsules - (Traditional Medicinals has the best pre-packaged tea and Nature's Sunshine has the best capsules) - Capsule taken 1 per day at the beginning of second trimester and then 2 per day at beginning of third trimester OR (not both) 1 cup of infusion or tea taken once per day at 2nd trimester and 2 times per day at third trimester until 38 weeks and then can be drank 3 times per day, this will strengthen your uterus, ease labor, help with placenta birth, reduce bleeding and improve circulation as well as a__sist with milk production after birth. If taken during labor as a tea in hot water will shorten duration of labor. (May prevent pre-eclampsia).
4. Castor oil - promotes contractions in bowels and intestines and uterus. Must be very careful with this especially if baby isn't turned yet.
5. Black and Blue cohosh tintures also promote onset of contractions.
Final thought, my sister-in-law lost her baby three days before her due date, he was born stillborn and perfect. The doctor told her that if they had induced at least one week before he would be alive and healthy. Her placenta and uterus were not strong enough to keep him alive at that point. The placenta tore and the baby drowned in blood. This was enough for me to research methods to strengthen my uterus and induce naturally. I developed pre-eclampsia with my first and I almost died at 36 weeks with full b__wn eclampsia at which point I was induced. Now, at 16 weeks with my second child I have already begun the RRL infusions. I suggest to all moms to prepare their bodies early on. Most mothers don't eat well enough to not supplement with vitamins and minerals. Good luck to all of you.
