I just wanted to add my bit.Giving birth hurts like they say,no matter how much you learn, people forget as they say,my case it was'nt so much forgetting,I had prtoblems down there afterwards, felt like had shoved a spade up there to try and get her out.I was in pain when I tried to go a toilet, felty like my insides were coming out, hurt to sit for too long.2nd birth I had a c-section,thought I nearly had to have one with my 1st,ok I was in pain a bit afterwards, but it was much more controlled,I enjoyed the birth, with pain afterwards you get help feeding from the nurses, which I did'nt get to same degree with v____al,and thats not easy to start with.I would go for a c-section,but in a way am glad to have done both ways to say never again!

I agree that the pain you have after birthing v____ally is worse than labor, I had alot of st_tching and lost so much blood that I was fainting while they were stiching me up, for the ladies in here who have gone through lamaze and they tell you that tearing and bleeding down there is normal unless it is squirting out, well that was me, it took them hours to get everything back together. and I was in alot of pain, couldnt sit, stand, definitly couldnt pee, couldnt walk for a good 4 months after I had my baby, but was it all worth it? definitly, Im having another one, so its definitly something you can live through.

I believe the pain is 'survivable' without drugs, but it is the duration that will make you decide whether you need drugs. I came to the point where i knew i couldnt take it for another few hours, and wanted drugs, but by that point i was too late and baby was born 20 min later.

I have to agree that I think it is more a state of mind and how you take the pain. I was induced and the contractions were literally one on top of the other and off the charts. While it was painful, I was able to hold it together for 12 hours and remained pretty calm even after the delivery started. But once the nurse had said there were problems, my babies heart rate was dropping and my Dr had to be called in ASAP to a__sist, I began to panic and the pain became unbearable and I really did not think I would stay concious til the end. Thankfully everything worked out and I had a beautiful baby girl.

I have a high tolerance for pain and I had my daughter naturally and OMG!!! I grabbed my husbands throat and almost pulled his clothes off. It was terrible and I am not a crying screaming person and I screamed and cried and its unexplainable til you experience it yourself. Theres things out there that hurt worse Im sure and I sure hope I never have to experience it because labor is, well theres no word for it. But I am glad I got to experience an epidural labor and delivery and a natural one. You have to keep in mind it will be over soon and once you have done it you really feel powerful and strong.

hey Brianna,
I had my first baby naturally and I don't exactly know what my "pain threshold" would be. However, I never took lamaz or anything, but I decided that I was going to be calm no matter how bad the pain would be. I vowed I would never even scream once and I never did. I was extremely calm. The nurses even commented on it. They were astounded, because when I got to the hospital I was 7cm dilated and having very intense contractions. I just sat there like it was no big deal. You just have to keep the mindset "and this too shall pa__s". I swear there's really something to that. Also, focusing on an object in the room as the contractions get really intense helps a lot. Just focus on one particular thing and think about your breathing through the contractions. I'm due in a little over 2 weeks with my second baby and I'm going to do natural labor again. I would never even consider drugs. When you go natural your body pushes the baby towards the end without you even consciously doing it. Your body knows how to get a baby out. When you start messing with drugs that numb your body, then you have to force yourself to push. I like being in control so I wouldn't like that all. That's just my preference though...

Hi, I gave birth in June and can honestly say I thought I had high pain tolerance but during labor really just needed drugs to relax me and get me through you cant compare any other pain to labor because it is unique. I used gas and air which was a big help and then had an epidural more so because i was scared of the baby coming out pain rather than the contractions which really felt just like really bad period pain to me. In the end i had a really long pushing stage and they needed to wear the epidural off so i could feel the contractions to push , to me that was the worse stage because it was exhausting and i couldnt push the baby out , to cut a long story short i honestly cant remember any of the pain now and even the next day after the birth i had no pain anywhere even after a 3 degree tear.

For me I agree with Marcie, all is different,so women can forget the pain when the baby is born, and you will have women say that to you.It is not always that simple, things can go wrong and you can be left in pain,or with problems, just like a c-section.However,when both goes well,I would prefer a c-section,the reason is its more controlled, not tired when you have had your baby, the pain afterwards is managable.

i agree with aisha, i would rather handle labour than have an absess on my tooth again, geez talk about pain, labour is different for every person, my labour was only for 5 hours, but i was in slow labour for three days, i had the contractions but no show, i was finally induced 2 weeks after my due date, had my membranes swept, waters broke and a drug given still nothing, then it kicked in, and it was to late to ask for pain relief. just gas and air for me, its not that bad, as we wouldnt do it again and again, if your worried have an epidural, but there is risks, also if you have drugs they can delay the babys reactions, make him limp, sleepy, just put your partner in a head lock and grip thats what i did. good luck, i was in sturrops, and wee weed all over the floor, all dignit is gone, so just go with it, and scream blue bloody murder if you have too.. xx

I have two children and I am pregnant with my third. I had both children with no pain medication of any kind. My daughter was 8lbs 7 oz and my son was two weeks early and 7lbs 10oz. I felt great after both and plan to take nothing this time either. Why medicate a child when it is not necessary. Breathing works!!

Brianna, Im a big sissy, The doctors have the drugs and epidurals there for a reason, honestly why go through hell when it is offered to you. My first daughter I thought I am going to do this natural, but when that pain kicked in they offered me the drugs and the epidural and trust me i took it and it was the best decision I made. It made the birth of my daughter so much more enjoyable and easier to bare. Good luck on what ever decision you make.

I just had my first baby 6 weeks ago, and I knew I wanted to do it without drugs. I told my husband that no matter how much I begged for them when I was in pain, to keep telling me that was not what I really wanted. The pain was absolutely intense, I do have a high tolerance for pain. I did not feel the contractions were too painful until they broke my water. To add insult to injury my son was as active during labor as he was my whole pregnancy and that added extra pressure. Breathing and concentrating on doing so made it easier, even though i had to be reminded not to hyperventilate quite often. I said I couldn;t do it anymore after every contraction after a certain point but my husband and the nurse told me yes I could, I was already doing it. That actually helped. I think the most awful horrible part, which only lasted a few moments, was when I was just about ready to push and they told me I could not push yet because my cervix was almost there, but not quite. my body was trying to push and I had to work against it to not push. That was excruciating. I thought pushing was a relief, burned a little, but since I was able to work with my body and contractions, I pushed for less than 10 minutes and my 7lb 12 oz boy was born. I felt great. Yes my bottom hurt for a few weeks, but all was to be expected. I had 2 st_tches and all has healed well. I would definitely do it again. I can think of things that have caused me much more longer lasting pain. Like the thrombosed gangrenous hemhoroid I had to have surgically removed at 34 weeks after 5 days of not being able to sit, walk, stand or sleep. Labor was a breeze and was over in a few hours. But everyone should only do what they feel is right for them, not what they think others want them to do. In the end, no matter which way you go, there will be a beautiful baby. I am happy with my natural birth and intend to do it again someday. You don't forget the pain, the memory of it does decrease though. Good Luck!!

My worst fear is not yet being dilated enough when I want to push, THAT would be excruciating.

hello Brianna, I just wanted to tell you that every one has different pain levels in labor. I have 8 kids and all my labors went really good and fast, so I wasnt in alot of pain. but when you do go in to labor and the contractions start to come on and you can feel the pain what I would always do is put my hands on the back of the bed and rock my body and I did that with 2 of my girls and all the rest of them game way to fast. so maybe every thing will work out and go real fast. best of luck
