My doc has told me my cervix is very soft but no dilation. Which is more indicative of things moving along towards having a baby? The effacement or dilation? Just curious.

I've read that either can happen first. It just depends on your baby and your body. I have ripening with no dilation either. Due intwo days and the .dr want to induce me on Monday.
Good luck

I think they're both signs that somethings happening, although saying that i'm 2cm diated and "ripe" yet i was told my cervix was still thick?! I expect it is different for every woman. It can happen real quick for some who have never shown any sign and can also take ages for women who have shown early signs. Hopefully yours will move along quickly :o)
