Black licorice is a natural laxative... I would imagine the theory is to stimulate the bowel, which can cause contractions, which may lead to labor. It's the same theory behind castor / mineral oil, suppositories, etc...

my guess is youd have to eat a hell of a lot, and youd get a mighty funny look if you turned up at the hospital puking, licorice allsorts!!!! hey we all get despate though, wanting to see our babys, i recon if it was proven to eat a thousand orages and swing upside down from a tree barking like a dog to induce we'd all be out there. woof woof
