How far along do you have to be before the doctor will strip your membranes? And when is it safe to do so?

well i made my midwife promise that she would give me one at 38 wks as i had been really uncomfortable for a while and it is my 4th so i kinda know what my body does which is usually go over by 2 weeks!!!! which it did for my first 2 children my 3rd was a week early but only because i had signs of pre-eclampsia so i was startes with all of them and really want to go into spontaneous labour this time, so she did one then and i ahd another last week and getting one today at 4pm today is my due date so fingers crossed and the midwife doin it today is mean't to be excellent at them, but i'm not gonna get my hopes up to much, so a sweep won't work unless your ready anyway as i've found, good luck
