Stripping Of The Membranes

As painful as it was (stripping), I think I'll have it done again. I have been loosing my mucous plug for the last week. My sister who is a pediatric nurse, said you can lose it all at once or over a period of days...I know, it isn't the most attractive thing. I'm hoping something happens between now and Friday. We've tried just about everything (castor oil, walking, nipple stimulation, s_x and just recently the membrane stripping). My husband and I are beginning to get a little nervous. I sure hope he comes on his own. Thank you Nikki, Congratulations and Good Luck!

I had my membrane stripped at 38 weeks and then again at yesterday at my 39 week appt. Yesterday after my appt I lost my mucus plug and last night I started cramping badly. I am glad I had my membrane stripped, I believe it has helped me along....if this cramping leads to labor soon ;)

Hello, I'm glad I had my membranes stripped. To make a long story short, I missed my appointment on Friday because I was in the hospital having my baby (Aaron James). So as of that moment, Friday the 13th will no longer be considered 'BAD", it will forever be a lucky day for me. Jennifer, its worth a shot. It worked for me, I'm sure it'll work for you. Good luck to you all and Congratulations!!!

jeanamari Congratulations! How exciting. I had my membranes stripped again today. Baby is still not dropping and my Dr. told me today almost positive I will have to have a C-section but she wont schedule it for another week week and a half but if I go into labor then I am golden. I pray that Stripping them works! So you had him 3 days after the second time? When they stripped it this time it did not hurt as bad, yet of course it hurt still. I have been a little crampy off and on so I really hope it works this time. I am just so ready for my baby!

I am 39+3 today and i am just not liking these last few weeks of pregnancy! I have been having contractions off and on for about three weeks now...nothing to write about I guess! I had my membranes stripped today and I hope that things start moving! I will let you guys know...but for those that are wondering on whether to do it or not...why not...it doesn't hurt that bad and it might help :)

I am 38wks and 6days and i had my membranes stripped on friday (1/13/06) i was 1 -2cm dilated, it didn't hurt me but there was alot of pressure and i haven't felt anything no cramps, no contractions, no nothing. This is my second child, Hopefully at my next appt. i'll get my membranes stripped again. I'm so anxious and i hope this next one works.

Rosalind I hope it works for you as well. It only works 50% of women my Dr told me. Usually you do have cramping right after they do it. I have had cramping on and off but no start of active labor. I hope it works for you!!! I still have a day or two before my 72 hr time frame is up so we will see. I am starting to believe it will only work if baby is ready! I think my baby wants to stay in until she is 4 years old haha!

I am 40 weeks today. Today is my due date, my doctor stripped my membranes today and I immediately had cramping and bloody show. I lost my mucus plug yesterday after my doctor stripped my membranes for the first time the day before that. I am 4.5 dialated and I am 60% efaced. I am hoping for something. we will see.

I had my membranes stripped with my last one (at 36 weeks), went into labor at 2am and had her at 10am, I am prego again and can't wait for him to strip me!

Update: I have had my membranes stripped 3x. I truly believe you have to be ready for labor for it to work. I am 40+ weeks and have my inducement scheduled for this Friday. I am very excited although my Dr is 95% sure I will need a C-section. Good luck to all you ladies out there!

iam 39 weeks and 3 days and iam on my 4th child, iam having my membranes stripped tomorrow, dont know how many centemeters iam yet or how efaced iam yet but i have had a really c___ppy pregnacy, and iam wishing that it was over. The sad thing is , that my Dr. wont induce labour till your at least 10 days over due as iam used to that my other children were 15, 11 and 13 days overdue cause my body dont like starting something i guess, i had it done with my 3rd child and NOTHING so iam praying that something will happen in this next week cause iam anxious to get this over with. Will definitly keep posted thanks for listening.

i say definetly do it i went into labor 8hours after my doctor preformed the procedure!

Kathie - January 24

BellaCatty, you also need to drink cranberry juice and eat black licorice, what a combo!! After your membranes get stripped grab a counter and get to a squatting position lightly push and hold for 10 seconds (do it about 5-6 times a day), I don't know why but this works, at least it did for me and several of my friends!
