Hi, I am 39 weeks and 1 day. My doctor stripped my membranes today and I'm having cramps and a little more discharge. I was induced with my first child 4 days after having my membranes stripped and I didn't make much progress before the induction. I'm scheduled to be induced next Tuesday, but maybe I'll go over the weekend. I am GBS positive, so I'm a little concerned about the membrane stripping. Has anyone every heard anything negative about stripping membranes if you have GBS?

I am 39 weeks and 3 days. I am 3cm and 50%. The doctor stripped the membranes today. He said it may or may not "get things going". It didn't hurt. He just used his finger to release the membranes during the exam. If it doesn't work, I will be induced on Monday. This was just a way to see if I could get going. I hope it works!

My daughter is 40 weeks today and she just had her membranes stripped. She is having a lot of blood. She said it is like a period. From the other post this doesn't seem normal - has anyone else had this?

I had mine stripped yesterday. I am 1-2cm and 50%. I had and still have lots of cramping, no spotting, and irregular contrax. (they were 7min apart last night) when I lay down they stop. I'm hoping she comes this weekend, the doctor I want to deliver me is on call this weekend. I'm gonna keep walking as it seems to give me more contrax. Good luck everyone.

Kelli, yes I have heard negative info on stripping membranes in GBS positive moms..if you haven't done it yet I would suggest not doing it in your condition...to read same info I read see http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/sweepingMembranes.html

I am 38 weeks, having a lot of irregular contractions, lost my plug, having a lot of cramping in my legs, groin and back. As of last week, I was 1 cm dialated and 50% effaced, but then lost my plug after. Plan to have my membranes stripped in a few days, hopefully will get things going. With my last baby, my membranes were stripped and 48 hours later I had my son. He was actually 9 days early at that point too.

This is my first pregnancy ( to term ) and I am 2cm dialated and almost 100% effaced. My dr stripped my membranes just this morning at my appt and it wasnt that bad. Hopefully it will trigger some stronger contractions. Good luck with you.

michelle, I cant believe with your 2nd pregnancy your ob has not offered to induce you seeing that your 4cm, i am 38 weeks, with my 3rd, and had my membranes stripped on tuesday, it caused a lot of spotting and cramping but that was it, but i am also only 2cm and barely effaced....my ob said usually within 36 hours if your body is ready labor will begin...most of the women that i know that have had it done, have all gone into labor within 2 days...i would talk to your ob about inducing though, if you are this uncomfortable and this far along there should be no reason for them not to admit you and break your water...i go on tuesday and if i am 3cm and 50-75% effaced they will induce me the following am...she is already over 8 pounds and my last one was 9.1!!!! Good luck and keep us posted!!!!

michelle- I am in the same boat as you, i have been dialated to a 3 and 50% for two weeks, I went in on wends. and had a membrane sweep done and went back today and had only dialated to a 3 1/2 so I had another sweep done, I have had some cramping but no bleeding with this sweep yet. I dont get it because the dr sd that he swept alot more this time and could really feel the membranes seperate, he sd it wouldnt suprise him if we had a baby this weekend, but I have not had any contractions just mild cramping and added pressure. How is it working for you? With my 2nd daughter I had a sweep done one afternoon and had her the next moring. This is soooooo discouraging, I hope it works for you, keep me posted!! Good Luck!!

I am 37wks 2 days w/child #2. My OB stripped my membranes yesterday morning at 10:00 and for me it was very painful. I had some period like cramps and bleeding in the early afternoon but since then nothing. I have been 3cm and 75% effaced for a week. OB said taht his head was engaged and that I could deliver any day (yeah...get my hopes up why don't you). I don't think that it worked for me but will wait a couple more days to see. If nothing...I am scheduled to be induced on 9/26/05. BTW-best friend had it done last month-first pregnancy, 37.5wks, 2cm and 85% effaced...water broke two days later and she had her little girl! Some people are just lucky I guess!

I had mine done today, unaware until my dr. was finished and told me. I have bled quite a bit and lost my mucus plug within hours. Im due in 7 days and am rather nervous since I have a small child at home already. I dont like being unprepared. Any advice?

i had my membranes stripped at 39 weeks. The doctor did it at 11:00 in the morning. About a half hour later I had some brownish red bleeding that lasted for a few hours. I also had some mild menstral cramps. About 9:00 pm I started having mild contractions that were about 20 minutes apart. I went to bed and was woken at 3:30 am by a very painful contraction. I did not want to run to the hospital, so I waited out the contractions until they were 5 minutes apart and unbarable. At 5:30, right before I left for the hospital I lost my mucus plug in the bathroom. The hospital was about 10 minutes away and my water broke on my way in. I had my son at 11:28 that morning. I don't know if I would have gone into labor anyway, that day but I do believe that stripping my membranes caused my labor to go very fast.
