this is my 1st pregancy,I have been thinking of a section,or natural. Those of you who have given birth, please be kind enough to talk me through it.Does a "tens"machine really help? When labour first starts is it like period pains, that come and go?How bad will these pains be when I get to the hospital?I want a epidural, but they will not let you have it until 4cms,how do you cope before then? Will the eipdural last until after the baby is out? Feeling the baby as it comes out,for me,would be awful.

I had two births, the first a natural birth, the meds did not take the epidural made me dead on just one side, the birth horrendous, the pain so bad.econd birth I chose a c-section,by contrast so much better, the pain meds afterwards was controlling the pain.I prefer a section.

I was induced-believe me, avoid that if you can! That said, get the epidural as soon as you can-they let me get it at a 2 so maybe they will let you get it sooner. I couldn't have gone natural, not with the pitocin. The epidural wore off when I started pushing and it was excruciating pain-I was crying it hurt so bad. I had back labor and that was awful. If the epidural does wear off though, they will get the anesthesiologist to get you an extra dose. You will be able to feel pressure with an epidural, but not the pain if it works right. Also, it shouldn't wear off until after, because they have an iv that keeps putting it in for you. The pushing is actually a relief if you do decide to go natural. Oh, I also went 11 and 1/2 hours in labor before getting the epidural, and the way I coped was just to hold my husband's hand, or curl up into a ball. If you decide on the epidural, like I said-get it as soon as possible! It depends on what the pain is like for you-it could be cramping that comes and goes, or back pain that comes and goes. It will gradually get worse until they seem like they are never ending and hurting worse and worse. When you go to the hospital I was told that you shouldn't be able to talk through them at all, and it would be difficult to breathe. Also if your water breaks at home you need to go immediately. Make sure that you look at the fluid to make sure it is clear and there is no blood or myconium in it becuase they will ask you that. Anyways, you doctors and nurses will take great care of you! Good luck. \

I used tens machine,I did not think it did a lot for me,it feels light tightenings around your tummy, like if you pulled your muscle. For example if you tighten your muscle in your leg,or foot, you have to release after a wile, well imagine that, only obviously you cannot let go.I am interested in your question, anything to ease labour.
