xoxticiaxox , please don't freak out! I was just repeating what my doctor said. I swear I could not feel it. After the delivery I only felt a slight tugging when was on the toilet for a few weeks and some senseation (i can't even call it discomfort) when I would sit. There was really no pain at all. You'll be fine. I just have to second what other people were saying. Episiotomies are BAD. Unless they are performed when the baby is in danger there is no need for them. Its a very old school practice.

I tore with both of my kids. The first time I was given IV pain meds during labor, and I needed st_tches, the tearing wasn't so bad, but the recovery was painful. With my second son, I had a natural labor without any pain meds, and at the point of pushing your endorphins kick in full force and you FEEL like you're on pain meds. Again, I tore, but this time it was not a bad tear that the doctor decided to not even st_tch it up. I was literally walking around just an hour after the baby was born. Recovery time was ten times better. My suggestion would be to go without the episiotomy, and lets face it, if you need to be cut, your body will do it for you, there is a chance that you'll be able to push that baby out with minimal or no tearing at all. ( I know someone who was given an episiotomy and still ripped "from hole to hole") Try to avoid the episiotomy.

Wow, all of this information just made me so queasy. Tearing is the only thing that scares the c___p out of me. I'm sure I'll be eating my words later, but I'm kind of looking forward to experiencing the pain of labor. But I do not want to tear!
