I'll be 36 wks next week. My doc said she's fine w/me having the baby anytime after that. Why do some docs think "full term" is 36 wks and others 37? B/c there are different thoughts on this, should I not do anything right away (walking, primrose capsules, s_x) that might bring on labor? Again, she said as long as I made it to 36 wks, she was fine??????

i've always been led to belive that 37wks is considered full term. I would hang off maybe a week or so before trying to start the ball rolling as your baby's lungs will still be developing. They're the last organs to develop fully so you wanna give him/her the best start you can :o) Good Luck!!

my dr considers 37 weeks full term. however, due dates are just estimates. they could be off by a week or two. i waited until i was 38 weeks before i started any type of self inducing. hang on for just a few more weeks!!

Seems like the concensus is now 37 weeks. That's what my docs said with my 2nd and 3rd babies. They told me 38 weeks when I was pregnant with my first (7 years ago). Walking is ok at any time in pregnancy if you don't have complications, but I wouldn't try to induce this early!

Do you know how many 37 weekers I've seen with pre-mature lungs? Some even on ventillators. You should see the looks of guilt on the mothers' faces as they sit and look at their little babies in intensive care! Sure some babies born early do just fine, I can admit that; but why take the gamble on your baby? FULL TERM IS 40 WEEKS AFTER LMP! When the baby's lungs are mature it puts off a chemical that is involved in the start of NATURAL labor. Don't do anything to pre-maturally start labor almost a month before you're due. TAKE CARE!
