I am 27 weeks with my second child. With my first I pushed for close to 3 hrs! When I was 10 cm the nurse asked me if I felt "pushy". I felt a lot of pressure, so I said yes. Later on, however, I felt the true "pushy" feeling--(when your body almost does it for you). I am wondering if that is what the nurse was talking about and if I should wait until I have that feeling before I start pushing (even if I am fully dialated) any thoughts??

I have had two bubs abd I always thought that I was at the pushing stage and I wasnt really... But I had the hugest urge to push... the midwives said that I wasnt fully dialated and I had to wait (like thats the easiest thing to do!!) so I think that you should listern to both the midwives and your body... They midwives will tell you when to push but if you dont feel like you are there yet just tell them not yet!!

Did you have any meds? Because I did not and definitely knew when it was time to push. I felt pressure before I was completely dialated, but when I was, my body was already doing it, I did not get a choice. I pushed my son out in less than 10 minutes.

Yes, I did have meds..an ISN (interspinal narcotic) It is a shot that goes into your back like an epidural, but it is one shot-not continuous medicine. It only desensitizes your mid-section-so you can still feel contractions but not as strongly. Usually it wears off by the time you are ready to push, but I sometimes do wonder if it prolonged the process! Thanks for your feedback :)

my first labour was 3 hours, my midwife never asked me, but my body just started on its own i just helped, it was like being on auto pilot, i would think its stupid to push when your body isnt ready except if you need to due to baby distress

I had my baby last monday, and i felt as if I had to poop so badly that I couldn't hold it in any longer. In fact, I had my husband tell them that the baby was coming whether i wanted him to or not. I only pushed for 20 minutes. first baby.
