Why Does An Epi Cause Shaking

I've seen on TV that some women have this uncontrollable shaking after rec their epi- why is this and how common is this?

I don't know if it's the epi or not. I had it throughout my labor at different times. Before & after my epi, especially bad after my labor was over. I had tremors really bad.

It isn't necessarily caused by the epidural. A lot of women experience this when they enter the transition phase of labor, that is what happened to me. I can't recall how long it went on, but it wasnt really bothersome. You notice it at first, but then you are so preoccupied that you don't notice anymore. Labor takes such a toll on a womens body that it is like a coping mechanism of sorts. It is not a big deal at all.

Well i had shaking really bad with mine but i wasn't in labor i had a c-section but i'm not sure why it causes it.

That is interesting- i though it came from the epi. that is one of the reasons i don't want one but i had no idea it may just be caused by labor. It really freaks me out to see someone shaking like that.

beardtl, don't be afraid of the shaking, It is like having the shivers really bad without being cold, and when you are experiencing it, it isn't scary at all. When you are in labor and especially during transition for some reason, your body is just overwhelmed with emotion and hormones, that's all. It doesn't hurt, it just happens. I never even gave it a second thought. If you are concerned about it why not talk to your OB. Not every woman experiences it, maybe you are one of those women? Just keep yourself open to your pain management options and don't be afraid.

I had that with both of mine. I dont know if it is the epidural or not. It was worse with my son though. It scared my husband.

A friend of mine just gave birth without any meds and she had crazy shaking. I had it too but I don't remember it too much at this point. It wasn't that bad I guess - and when you are in the midst of labor, I doubt you'll be thinking about the shaking too much! :)

I think maybe the pain causes shaking too though-I went into full-on labor the other day(which stopped on its own) but the contrax were so awful that I was shaking uncontrollably I think it's one way the body deals with labor Also it could just be the anesthesia in the epi-I think when you r giving birth it will b the last thing on ur mind

I think its just how your body reacts to it.
