45 And Wants To Get Pregnant

I am 45 and have never tried to get pregnant. I am worried about my "elderly" eggs. Are there tests the Dr. can order to rule out birth defects or do that only occur after conception? Anyone else out there experience same fears? Is it safe for me to even think about conceiving?

I am 44 and am also trying to get pregnant. I had my son at 35- I think I had a miscarriage in December but we waited a cycle and then we are trying again.

Just turned 42 and twice pregnant last year (at 41) both resulted in miscarriage. It can be done, but after 40 it's like 50 % chance of miscarriage and at 45 I think 1 in like 50 change of downs or other genetic disorders. If you have money, you could try IVF....because every month counts and I wouldn't count on high fertility since that also declines after 40. Good luck.
