Hi all, I am also waiting for a baby to show in the yolk sac. Today was my first OB appt and I should be 7 1/2 weeks along. Doc says no way. He sees sac, it seemed quite large. He said he is 75% sure its a blighted ovum. I was crushed until I found all of you wonderful, inspiring people. I will wait. I have an u/s in 2 days w/ better equipment. I need lots I prayers. I am praying for you too. I am also spotting brown (very light), no pain and feel pregnant. We shall see whats in Gods plan. Thanks for the support.

I've known a lot of woman who just had a big sac to begin with, so it looked like the fetus wasn't there, when the fetus was normal size (that being detected later on), just the sac was big for that stage. 2 days may not make a whole lot of difference. But, at the same time.. at 8 weeks, even if they are having trouble finding a fetus, they can detect if there is a heartbeat. In my case, they couldn't really find it, but the little thing had a heartbeat. Finally after a long time playing with the u/s equipment, they found the fetus. It likes to play hide and seek. I ended up losing mine a couple weeks later, but that was because my hormone levels were low and the fetus wasn't growing like it should and finally gave. I sure hope the best for you!!!! Tell us what they say at your next visit. Don't let them tell you in 5 minutes either. The one dr. actually took her time, moved VERY slowly and did for about 30 minutes. THe tech that said nothing was there, was only checking for like 5 minutes and was rushing. When I know it was there cuz that same day I had the dr. do it and sure enough it was there. I think it really depends on whos doing it also. Especially when your this early along.

I have been reading everyones stories since I had my first m/c in May 2005. My husand and I started to try in March and were very surprised that we got pregnant right away but the devestating news came after our first doctor's appt at 9 weeks. I was diagnosed with a Blighted Ovum. I was extremely devestated and had a D&C the next day. I was so happy to learn we were pregant again after waiting one cycle (doctor's recommedation). I have been a nervous reck of course. The waiting game is just brutal. I went in at 6-1/2 weeks and the doctor saw an empty sac measuring 18mm (6w2d). Though he believed this was not a normal pregnancy because of no fetal pole he wanted to see me 6 days later. My husband and I have already prepared for another m/c when we did another u/s yesterday and saw a small fetal pole with no heart beat. The doctor said that he is 99% sure this is not a normal pregancy but we chose to wait another week just to be sure. My sac grew and now measures at 20mm. I am so confused and not sure what to do or think. My heart truly aches and I know my chances are slim but has anyone experienced something similiar????

Daniella - August 9

Kristie- unfortunately the doctor gave me a 99% sure it isn't going to make it. He even wanted to schedule me for a D&C before the heartbeat stopped. and this is with a flickering of the heartbeat. I told him, no way would I do it, knowing that there is a heartbeat. But, I will if the heartbeat stops. They say that over 90% of pregnancies make it after you find a heartbeat. Well, I fell into the small percentage that didn't make it. My question for you is... is it just your sac growing, but not the fetus? My sac kept growing, and would have continued, but the fetus on the other hand wasn't. Well, it was, but not as much as it should. Its a very hard and devastating thing to go thru. The upside to my experience is that I know for the future what it "shouldn't" look like, I guess. But, don't do anything (like give in to a D&C) until you are very comfortable with your decision. It was a very hard one on me, because I would always have the, what if's. If you know what I mean. Anyhow... sorry about rambling... So, they seen a small fetal pole but the sac was 20mm... Here is a great site, to give you a much better understanding.... "http://www.ob-ultrasound.net/ " No (-) in it. just straight obultrasound.net Scroll down and it really gives you a lot of information. I hope it helps

Whoops! I meant, with a (-) in it. My bad!! Hope it helps!!

wow - August 10

There is always hope. It aint over till the fat lady sings, and I'm not singing... lol.. Sorry, I was in a similiar situation where the dr's said I was just over 8 weeks they found the sac but no fetal pole or yolk. Told me to go back in a week which was today and sure enough, found a little 6 week 4 day old little one whose heart is just a flicking away... This is my 6th pregnancy with 1 live birth. I have had several mc and each one is as hard as the other. It could be that you baby's heart has not started yet. They say it dosn't start beating until 6 weeks or so. What is the size of the fetus telling them as far as how old it is? Remember, they dated me at 8 weeks when I was really 5... They are far from perfect, so don't give up and don't do anything until you are comfortable with it, Kristie... They can date the sac, but it's important for them to date the fetus as everything is based on that. Good luck and prayers are with you!

Was the fetal pole 6wks 4days or was that the sac? and what was the BMP. or was it only a flicker but not strong enough to detect a BMP? I was showing 6wks 2days when they heard the flicker of the heartbeat. But, it never went more than a flicker and I was supposed to be 8 weeks. Just measuring that, so I had a feeling something was wrong. But, the difference is I know that it couldn't have been me messed up on my dates of conception, because my hubby is in the military and I know that I couldn't be less than the last day he left. LOL> Well, I sure hope your outcome is much better than mine. When do you go back for another u/s?

Julie - August 10

The fetal pole was 6 weeks 4 days. At least, that's what he measured. Since nothing in my tube is blocked and everything is where it should be, I don't go back for another month. He didn't measure a BMP (gotta love the military doctors) but it was a steady fast little flicker. I recalculated everything and even told him that their estimate of 8 weeks last week had to have been wrong for it was based on a 28 day cycle. My cycle is 34. I counted back 6 weeks and 4 days and according to the calander it looks about right. My dh is in the military too :)

Daniella - August 10

Hey Julie, well that's cool. Where you located? Well, I was visiting my parents back in the states near Great Lakes military base when I was back home, so I had to go to that dr. pardon my language, but he was a complete a__s. He was the dr. that wanted me to schedule a D&C when the heartbeat was still there. SO, I went to an outside place. So much better there. Nothing in my tubes were blocked and it was in the perfect spot for me also, and perfectly round. But, the sac measured over a week more than the fetal pole. I found out later that the fetus wasn't growing the way it should due to lack of progesterone which was too late to supplement by the time I found out.

Next time, get it confirmed by the military and then go off base. I pushed to go off base when I was pregnant for the 4th time and after a lot of screaming and yelling (of course, dh was TDY at the time) I got my way and got my 10 year old. We are currently in Japan and going off base is not an option (not that the Japanese have all that great of a medical staff either) so I have to have more gumption (sp?). Base policy is that they don't see anyone until their 12th week. I had cramping on my left side (my right tube was taken out after bursting with my ectopic several years ago - that one was a civilian oops) so I got in last week. That was when they couldn't find anything and said I was 8 weeks. Counting the two free weeks - I can never understand that... So I was very relieved when they found the little one yesterday. I know m/c is always a possiblity and I won't rest until it's born and healthy. I am sorry for your loss. I know it's not easy but have faith and know that when the time is right, it will happen.

Daniella - August 10

Ok Julie, this is rather scary.. lol... I had my right fallopian tube rupture also a couple years back. And I am also in Japan. lol.. Are you in Yokosuka?? This is so weird!! lol

Daniella - August 10

Oh and they never said anything about 12 wks for me... because they HAVE to see us if we have had a previous ectopic and find out we are pregnant again. Just to confirm that its in the right spot (uterus) this time. I didn't even have any pain in my left side and was almost certain that it wasn't another ectopic, but its procedure to make sure that it isn't. I'd be d__ned to lose my only tube left. lol

A follow-up to my August 8th entry. Went for u/s today with much better equipment and yes, there was the little bugger. Small but there. The heart beat was not easy to detect b/c it could have been in rythm with my own pulse. The fetus( approx 6 wks in size) was too small to get heart beat so they preferred to confirm it in a week. So, I have to wait. The u/s Dr said she is hopeful that this could have just been a miscalculation of dates. My period always starts with spotting. I never counted spotting as the first day of the flow. So, it could be that I was about 4 days off on the last period, Dr said, couple that with a fertilized eggs slow journey down the tube, it could be a week or more off. Whew! I hope to God that is it. She said there is a good chance all is OK. I know I am not out of the woods but, I can't help but feel better though. I am a new patient with this Dr, he is too neg for me. I know he doesn't want to give false hope but I was told he was 75% sure it was a blighted ovum. After that, I started staining and thought it was all over. I never expected to see a teeny tiny fetus today. I hope all is ok. I called Dr to get blood results and to inform them of the u/s results (they had been called already) I got the head nurse who said "yes we know, they said they saw SOMETHING but we don't know what yet!!!!!!" I was furious!!! That is not at all what they told me. I hate this Dr office and I will change shortly. Anyone have this kind of att_tude from nurses and doc's - all doom and gloom and NO encouragement at all!!?Yuck!

Julie - August 11

Wow!! Daniella, you're in Japan too? Small world! I'm in Yokota. I know what you mean about being protective of the only tube you have left! lol... That's amazing!
