Im in the same position, I have had some brown spotting but no blood and went to the hospital yesterday where they did a v____al u/s.... It showed a sac but nothing in it I should be 5 weeks but the doc said we should be seeing something by now. Im so scared I just want to know so i can try again... Has anyone had brown spotting and still carried a healthy baby to term.

Samanthat: I have been reseaarching the spoting issue and I must say, even though it didn't work out for me I have read severals posting by women who have had spotting and nothing seen until week 6 even week 9. Hang in there and don't give up hope. It is confusing but you will be okay

Hi Samantha, I'm having the same symptoms, scant brown spotting, my came after my first exam which included a pap smear and a very invasive(!) v____al u/s. We saw the sac, but no embryo, my doc said I was 8 wks (LMP), but I was only 6w4d from conception at the time of that u/s. I have read all the different posts and perhaps the most important thing learned is that every woman's body and pregnancy is different. In this very early stage, a matter of days can make all the difference! So hang in there, think positively and from all the I've read, don't let a too quick doc talk you into anything until you feel absolutely certain! My husband and I have already discussed this, we are having another u/s next Tues., I will be at 7w4d, even if nothing is seen then, we will wait until between 10 -12 weeks. Period. We know that God is in charge here and we are all wonderfully made, that even doctors can be wrong. So take heart, pray and wait patiently (I know, easy to say, hard to do!!!) God bless, Amy

Update: HCG count was taken on 5/19 and 5/21. I was not suppost to go to my doctor till Thursday 5/26 but wasn't patient and called on 5/23. All the results were in so I went in as a walk in that same afternoon. Just as I feared, hcg levels had decreased and U/S showed empty, irregular sac now. I had a d&c done Tuesday 5/24 and I'm still having a hard time dealing with this. 2 days before the d&c I was still having symptoms of preganancy and that's why I couldn't believe this had happened to me. There was only minor spotting of brown the day before the d&c and mild cramping. The worst part yet is that my husband is so scared and sad to have seen me in the hospital that he auctually told me we should probably wait a year till we try again. I feel so hopeless! All the praying, hoping, and waiting meant nothing at all. Even at the time we were celebrating the pregnancy because of + pregnancy test there was nothing happening at all! I never even heard of a missed abortion until now. This is all just to much for me. Linda G.

Linda G: I can identify with you. I had my d& c 4 days ago and I feel sad, empty and yet confused by my emotions. I was so happy to find out I was pregnant 5 weeks ago and then I went through 4 weeks of spotting, cramoing, hcg tests u/s and 3 doctors. It finally all ended with a sac that had quit growing and no fetal pole. I was devastated as were my other children who are 10 & 6 as well as my husband. We have been advised to wait 3 months and that is what we will do. I will pray for you and I wish you the best. Remember, your husband is greiving too and he may change his mind in a few months.

Teresa M. Thank you very much! I already said a prayer for you right before responding. If you don't mind me asking, have you experienced anything strange after your D&C? I seem to have started my period already but with heavy bleeding this morning and big pieces of dark colored tissue coming out frequently. If you don't feel like answering it's ok, I'm just a little scared that something else is wrong now.

Linda G: I can't say that I experienced any real heavy bleeding after my d&c. I bled the most with the worst cramps about 6 days after the procedure. My doctor said not to worry unless I was filling a pad in less than 20 min and I really barely needed a pad at all after the procedure. I would a__sume by her answer that some patients do have heavy bleeding afterwards though. I would call your doctor if you intuition tells you to though, better safe than sorry. I am fortunate that my OB gave me her personal pager # I wish all doctors were like that. Thank you so much for your prayers. I am starting to feel somewhat normal today (it has been a week) so hang in there IT DOES GET BETTER. My prayers are with you and your husband.

I have just went through the same thing. I started to spot very little about a week ago and i went in to have a u/s. My baby stopped developing. I was about 6-7 weeks and still no heart beat just an empty sac. I went into the hospital because the spotting became bright red and the cramps were like labor pains. I had a DNC on Sunday May 29, 2005 and prior to the procedure another u/c was done and no heartbeat. I was 8 weeks to the day. This was my second child in 9 years. First one went very well no complications so Im very surprised at this miscarriage. I so wanted this baby. I will be praying that you pregancy will go well. Good Luck.

I had an empty sac at what I thought was 7 weeks 3 days on Fri 5-27-05. I went back today 5-31-05 and had a yolk sac and a fetal pole. I have another scan on Mon to see what the progress is. No one can explain it but thing slook like they are going to be ok.

Thanks for sharing Teresa. I'm thinking that part of the reason why I bled so heavily is that I really haven't sat down to relax. I'm the type of person that keeps going. I also had to move out of my cla__sroom this past week right after my procedure because the other teacher wanted to begin moving in. I still been keeping up with my housework and reaaranged 2 rooms already. I guess it's time for me to slow down and relax.

I had my D&C about a week ago. I only had very little bleeding and cramping afterwards but now I am starting to cramp worst. Doc says its normal. I am also having a lot of depression. This was my 1st pregnancy and I was so excited. I know it happened for a reason though. God Bless everyone once again.

I was dating myself around 6 wks when I went to the dr., but he didn't see anything on the u/s. So I was scheduled to come back in 2 wks. By then, I researched a little more, and was dating myself at 7w4d and I started spotting dark brown on Thurs., and a light cycle (no cramps at all) on Friday, dark red. My dr's appt was on Saturday morning. The dr's a__sistant said it should be fine, as long as it wasn't bright red with cramps. My sister had normal cycles with her 2 kids and didnt find out she was pregnant until 3 and 4 mos. When I had my v____al u/s, my dr. said he still couldnt see anything, but at a second glance, he points out fragments (?). My blood tests were normal for hcg and my cervix was closed. The dr. said I was miscarrying then, and to come back and he'd schedule a d&c if I was still bleeding Monday, yesterday. My bleeding was very light, and I changed my pad once a day because I was bleeding so lightly. I stopped completely on Sunday. My husband never believed I was having a miscarriage in the first place, and thinks I should get an unbiased second opinion. Can anyone offer any advise on this?

If you are told you may have a blighted ovum, the first question you need to ask is if you are more than seven weeks? ====================== A blighted ovum should never even be suggested before seven weeks. ====================== Now, if you are more than seven weeks and can see nothing in the sac, you need to ask if you have a retroverted (aka tilted or tipped) uterus or some other uterine abnormality. ========================= Approximately 1 in 3 women have a tilted uterus and most don't even know it. ======================= However, with a tilted uterus, a number of women cannot see their babies until 7 to 11 weeks. ======================== I was just about 9 weeks and had already turned down the D&C twice. All my u/s's from 5 1/2 to 8 weeks showed only an empty sac. But at 9 weeks we saw my baby. My hcg's were well over 100,000 and they had even started off really low which my doc's felt signalled miscarriage and my gestational sac measured 28.5mm before the baby could be seen. ========================= Also, keep in mind, if you have a tilted uterus, many women are told they are one to two weeks behind when the baby is found like I was (although that was physically impossible) but during the second trimester when the uterus is back in a more normal position, the measurements are usually right on again. =========================== So, really if you are 7 weeks or under and your doctor is scaring you with a blighted ovum, you may want a new doctor. If you'd like to read more misdiagnosed blighted ovum stories, the misdiagnosed site gets about one a week www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com and if you are misdiagnosed, please add yours to the stories ======================== Just remember, it is safe to wait for a natural miscarriage or a D&C if you show no signs of infection (i.e. fever, foul discharge, excessive pain). Take care and I hope you get good news.

I now believe anything is possible. I posted a message about a week ago. I went for an u/s 2 weeks ago which only showed an empty sac. I haven't had bleeding or cramping at all so I waited and went for another u/s yesterday which showed a beautiful 1 cm fetus with a strong heartbeat. It turns out I had my dates wrong. I'm only 7 weeks not 9. Miracles happen...they really do!!!

leanne - June 1

By the way, I have a folded and tilted uterus so it was very hard to find the baby at first. It took a good 10 minutes of searching before I could see anything at the u/s. Don't give up ladies!!

Leanne, CONGRATS!!! That is wonderful news and always makes me teary eyed. I remember when we found my baby at nine weeks...not a dry eye in the room and it was a crowded room. Have you shared your story at the misdiagnosed site? It helps to have all the success stories in one place to give other women hope. I guarantee the details of your situation will match the details of so many other women's supposed blighted ova. Congrats again www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com
