I am 8 weeks pregnant, I had a miscarriage in Jan 2004 and we have been trying ever since to fall pregnant. This time round at approx 6 weeks I noticed some light brown spotting, very minimal for a couple of days. I had an ultrasound that showed a heartbeat, so ob/gynr said 'wait it out'. Had another ultrasound last week and ob/gyn said heartbeat is under 80bpm and foetus not growing?? How can they tell at 7 weeks as all I could see was heartbeat on the monitor and from what I have researched that's about all you should see at this early stage? Ob/gyn says pregnancy not viable and I need a D&C and I will miscarry. I have had no spotting for a week just a bit of cramping at night, I am reluctant to commit to the D&C as there is a heartbeat and I still have other pregnancy symptoms? Has anyone else experienced similar?? I am worried sick and don't know what to do...

Sue- Ask them to check your hcg levels and progesterone levels to see if it is where it should be at. The hcg levels shows if the baby is developing and the progesterone levels holds a pregnancy (sometimes you spot alittle if this level is low and they can give you progesterone pills to bring it up). If your hcg levels are low then there is nothing you can really do about this. I am surprised that they did not check your levels already since you already experienced a m/c. Ask them for another ultrasound to check the baby at 8wks. I hope this all works out for you, I'll be praying for you. God Bless!
