I had an ectopic pregnancy and had 2 methotrexate shots (100mls) on May 4th. I went to the lab last Friday and had another Quant screening and my HGC level is about 40 points higher than when I had the shots. It is possible I have conceived again. If this is a normal pregnancy, is it possible the methotrexate did damage to the fetus? My doctor stressed the importance of not conceiving for at least 2 months after the shot. I'm scared!

Dixie, from www.drugs.com:
Do not take methotrexate if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. Methotrexate is in the FDA pregnancy category X. This means that it is known to cause birth defects in an unborn baby. Methotrexate can affect a baby both when a woman is treated and when a man is treated. If the woman is being treated with methotrexate, pregnancy must be avoided during treatment and for one ovulatory cycle following treatment. If the man is being treated with methotrexate, pregnancy must be avoided during treatment and for 3 months following treatment.
If you had unprotected intercourse it's obviously possible that you're pregnant. I'd follow-up with your doctor and, really, birth control would be in order, as I'm sure you know (don't you??). I hope everything works out well for you.
