Please Help Pregnancy After Abortion Has Anyone

I had an abortion 8 years ago at 27 and I'm now pregnant with my first at 35. Are there any special tests that are advisable for people in this situation? I'm terrified by reading that past abortion scarring may contribute to deformities. I have no clue what to do. I just got my test back positive but was not asked any questions. This was just at a walk-in clinic as I do not have a family doctor. (I was afraid to ask the doctor at the clinic any questions since he was cold and aloof and rushed me out).

Hi Linda, I'm in the same boat as you. I had an abortion at 17, three years ago. I'm now 7 weeks pregnant, I have exactly the same worries, especially as my HCG levels have been rising very slowly and the hospital think that it is an abnormal pregnancy. From asking my doctor, provided that the abortion was done at a reasonably early stage, the chances of scarring are minimal. I'm really hope that everything will be okay for you honey!

I have had 3 abortions and I am not proud of it but I did have a child after the 3 and he is normal in every way people write and say things to scare you from having one done cause they are against it and granted it may not be right but don't worry things will be fine the only thing I can think that scarring would cause is the embyo would maybe not implant and you would have a mc but it would be right away not weeks later do relax and try not to think about it and if you are that worried when you find a doctor talk to them about this good luck

Thank you No Name. Your email did wonders to make me feel better. I had the abortion done pretty early. (I heard that scar tissue can cause the embryo to grow without an arm, for example) I didn't tell the doctor at the clinic about it because I was just getting the blood test as confirmation and he was so nasty. I know I have to tell my upcoming obstetrician but I'm terrified that he will talk about it in front of my partner who I'd like along for the visits. I don't want my partner to know, since it was 8 years ago and nobody's business. It's nerve-wracking! Kay, I hope you get through your pregnancy without any complications. Thank you also :)

Like noname I had several abortions. I have also had 3 healthy beautiful children. I had my last in my mid 30's, with no problems. Good Luck and God Bess.

Go in and see your ob first - make sure you are honest and tell him/her EVERYTHING. Your bf can come in later. If you tell the dr not to say anything in front of the bf, they won't. But they do need to know your pregnancy history. I have had an abortion, then had two m/c. The doctor said it was unrelated. I did have a beautiful boy who is now almost 11. So relax... Your baby is not going to come out all deformed because of a prior abortion. It developes inside the placenta - the only thing scarring will do is possibly give the sac a hard time while it tries to attach itself. Once it attaches though - the abortion would have nothing else to do with your current pregnancy. Congrats!!

I had an abortion when I was twenty and at age 24 I gave birth to a beautiful, perfectly healthy little girl who is the light of my world and I am pregnant again, you and your baby will be fine!!

I am the same as "no name" and am having my fifth child now at 37. Your past should not affect this pregnancy, but I agree withthe previous writer - get a good doctor, be honest, and get good prenatal care. I am wishing you the best.

Yes. I agree with everyone here. Be honest with your MD, but know that I had an abortion when I was 18yo- and now have one beautiful 2 yo and another healthy one about to pop. My sister also had an abortion at 17 and now has two healthy boys (8yo and 18 and 1 year).
