Suspected Anembryonic Pregnancy

I had thought I was 13 weeks pregnant, since I've had most of the symptoms since mid-September with the exception of the nausea. I saw my doctor on Monday and he did an ultrasound which showed that the size of the sac was only about 6 weeks along. I know for a fact that can't be true, so another possibility is "anembryonic pregnancy" where the placenta develops even though the embryo does not. Also since Saturday I've had bleeding, it started as light brown spotting but betwen yesterday and today it turned to bright red with a few clots. My doctor told me to wait two weeks and see him again, but with the bleeding I have I believe I should head for the doctor first thing in the morning. I'm extremely nervous and disappointed, but I can't really get upset over something that might not even have been in there from the beginning. Wish me luck.

Update to the above- the bleeding I had turned from brown to bright red on Wednesday afternoon. So on Thursday I went into the hospital for testing, and ultimately was told what I already suspected: the placenta and sac had developed but for some reason the embryo did not. So I had a D&C Thursday evening at the hospital and now I'm at home for the next 3-4 days. I'd like to thank everyone on the site who gave me advice and support over the last little while. If I get pregnant again, I'll be back around. :)
