My Dr. told me that CPC's are not a__sociated with down's syndrome.....there are so many discrepencies with the info. I have received!! But, my Dr. told me that CPC's were only a__sociated with Trisomy 18. I hope this info is correct, because it's comforting to me!!

I had my ultrasound done at 18 weeks and my doctor told me that my baby also as a small cyst on the left side of the brain. She told me that it is a marker for down syndrome but i had no other markers and my blood also came back neg. She told me to go home and not to worry but that is easier said then done. Just wondering if anyone else has any info on this.

I just wanted to report that my husband and I went in today for a follow up ultrasound at 23 weeks. Thankfully our baby boy's CPC had resolved and his femur length, which was 1 mm short at 20 weeks, is now gestationally perfect. For the first time in this pregnancy we went home feeling relieved! I will still worry, though, until he's born because of that doubt that all of this mess has caused! I will, however, also stay as positive as possible. I also made sure to ask the genetic counselor today if the CPC is a marker for Downs and she a__sured me that it isn't. It is only a marker for Trisomy 18, not 21. She said that of course downs children can also be born with the cysts, as can "normal babies," but it isn't a marker. This is one of the best neonatal facilities in the country, (Capital Health Systems in Trenton, NJ), so I'd go with their advice. Hope that this info. helps. You will all remain in my prayers and I await hearing about the MANY beautiful, healthy babies born to us all. Maybe this is just God's way of helping us to remember how special our children are and to not take them for granted?? Good Luck to all of you!!

Hi there! I am so glad to find this message board, I had my 1st U/S at 18 weeks and they told me Friday they found 2 CPC's. All of the other findings were normal as was my quad screen. They have me scheduled for a f/u U/S tomorrow ( I am now 20 weeks) with the high risks fetal unit. I am relieved to see all the responses of these cysts not having any negative effect on having a healthy baby!

This website has really made me feel alot better. I had my first ultrasound today at 22 weeks. This is my third child, and the dr. told me that he has bilateral choroid plexus cysts. One is .4mm and one is .3mm. And that is about all the info she would give me. I had to keep asking questions because I have never heard of this, and she was still very vague. So I go back in four weeks for a follow up ultrasound. I just wanted ya'll to know that this was very comforting.

I seen my doctor today and i asked about the cyst again she told me not to worry that she have seen them many times and all of her patients babies have been fine. She never mention anything about getting another ultrasound done. She said she would not have even told me about the cyst but since i asked how the ultrasound went then she had no other choice but to tell me. I just hope that she's right and everything will be fine.

I posted originally on May 20, 2005 that a CPC had been found. I had a follow-up ultrasound today and the CPC has resolved itself and is gone. Our baby boy is measuring on the upper-end of size and is already 1 pound at 21 weeks. Everything is now considered absolutely normal. My doctor said she still can't guarantee no birth defects because only 65% of defects are detected in utero (referring here to all possible defects, not just ones possibly related to a CPC). However, I am not worried at this point, Yeah!!!!!! Grow baby grow!

Hi, I am 32, and having my first child. I just visited my OB doctor today. I was told that my baby has choroid plexus cyst on one side of the brain. I has tears in my eyes right after I left the doctor's office. I am worried so much even though the doctor said that she would not be worried about. She did not say that I should take Level II ultrasound. But my husband and I are planning on the 2rd u/s. Just want to make sure eveyrthing will be fine. Good luck to all the parents who are going through the same situation....

hi Cindy,
I can so relate to being in your situation! At our 18wk U/S we to were told that our baby (our second:)!!! had a small CP cyst and that most likley it would resolve itself and at our 22wk U/S it did!!! Thank the good Lord! The cyst had dissapered!
I know though how hard it is to hear and I was crying in the office when they told me they found the cyst and I was crying HAPPY OVERJOYED tears when they said it had gone away! God has all our babies in his hands! I hope and pray all goes well for you and your baby Cindy and for everyone else!!! God Bless you all,

I am 28 yrs old and this is my first bb. I had my ultrasound yesterday and my OB just told me that my bb girl have bilateral choroid plexus cyst. My OB referred me to a specialist.and told me that it's not a big deal and nothing to worry about. But still I feel so bad and can't belive it. After reading what everybody's been experiencing, I feel better. Hopefully the cyst will be gone soon.

I am 44 years old expecting baby #8 and had my level 2 u/s today. We were told we also have a small choroid plexus cyst.....no other markers except for my age. We decided against amnio....doctor said there is a 10% chance it is Trisomy 18 and 90% it isn't. This is a very encouraging website!!! OW..it says they occur in 1-2%...seems like alot of woman on here have one!

Yesterday I have my 20 week ultrasound and and found out I was have a baby girl, our first baby. It was wonderful to see my little girl! I was told my daughter had 2 cpcs, one of each side. The ultrasound tech seemed confident that they usually go away. Although, the doctor gave me a little scare stating that they could be signs of down syndrome. I have a level II u/s scheduled for tomorrow and am a nervous wreck. Although, researching this as put my mind at ease a lot. 1/100 babies have this and the chance of it having to do w/ a birth defect is less than 1%. Feeling a little better, but not totally rea__sured. Hopefully tomorrow with end this worry. Thank all of your stories and insight. God Bless
