IUD Malfuction

I've had my IUD in since the summer. And I've just started to wonder if I myself might be pregnant. I've not had any problems with the IUD until recently. I was told by my doctor that this was the best choice for me since I already have 4 children. However, after reading all of these posts I am not so sure. When I got my period in December it wasn't a normal period. I spotted mostly. But just this past week me and my husband had s_x. The day after I was spotting a light pink with a white discharge, then I just stopped. The next day I started again. Saturday morning I awoke to a UTI called my doc and he called me in some antibiotics and that night I had severe abdominal cramping that brought me to my knees. My b___sts really aren't that sore or bigger than usual however I've had nausea. I'm not sure what I'm suppose to think at this moment. My brain is telling me no...but my gut is telling me another thing. Is what I'm experiencing normal with the IUD or could it be a pregnancy. I am still currently having light spotting. Nothing heavy. Words of wisdom from anyone is appreciated. Thank you

I think what most of us are experiencing here are pregnancy symptoms caused by the IUD. With a few of us acutally pregnant - but they too felt the same way. Once you've been pregnant you know the symptoms and you know how your body feels. And any little sign you wonder and stress about it (I know I did w/ the IUD). I would just say relax and not to worry, but go to your doctor to have a blood test. They'll probably tell you it's highly unlikely you're pregnant, but it's more common than they like to think. And they'll tell you to stop reading this stuff on the internet. Good luck to all of you who think/wonder if you may be pregnant. It wasn't that long ago that I thought the same thing. Just know you're not alone in the way you feel and you're not crazy...even though some people may think you are for having these feelings. I'm sure if they were in your shoes they'd feel the same way. Good luck to all of you! BTW - After I had my IUD taken out I got on the pill, Estrostep, and I have felt great and I have no period! Just thought I'd share that.

hi misty f, im in agreement with you although i too am suffering these problems/symptons. i have felt 'pregnant' for the past few weeks, ive had all the symptons i had when i was pregnant the last time, ive had a urine test which came back neg but still not convinced, but im trying not to worry but i suppose you cant help after being on here, im being sent for a scan as my doctor has tried to find the threads of my merina twice now with no luck, so once it has been located im getting it out. im still feeling rather c___p & im sure its all down to this coil. i suppose the mind is also a big player in all of this, i suppose if we convince or even have a slight hint of being pregnant the mind does play tricks on you. how did you feel about getting the coil out?

Hi everyone, i have 2 kids and got the Mirena about 6 months ago. I haven't had a period since November. The doc told me that I could stop having one all together, but this month for the past week and half i have very tired, bloated and change in mood. I feel like I am pregnant. Has anyone else felt like this on this kind of IUD.

One more thing i forgot to say is that about 3 days ago i was having some discharge, just a little brownish to pink. Now i am not doing anything but i do have increase in whitish color discharge. Thanks

Claire - I had the mirena, so I didn't have a coil. But once it was taken out I have felt great! No more symptoms at all. Your mind definitely has a way of playing tricks on you. Good luck!

Reading all these stories is almost as shocking as my finding out 2 days ago I am preg with my paraguard (copper-no hormone)IUD. I have had it in for over 7 years, used to have alot of the sideeffects - heavy cramping/bleeding others mention. My preg tests are definatly positive, but I keep getting conflicting information about wether or not it needs to be removed if I want to keep the preg. My doctor told me on the phone today it needs to come out, tomorrow I have an appt. to have a sonogram and remove it , I was already scared but now Im panicked after reading this that removing it my be more dangerous to the baby. Any advise on what the best thing to do dis, and those of you who couldnt get it out because it was stuck - any idea what the reason waas?

Judi: I am 10 weeks right now...I was 3 weeks when they placed my IUD in ....believe it or not they NEVER did a pregnancy test!!!. I have been bleeding ofr 10 days now w/ cramping and other "discharge" I took the test at home...pos...went in the next morning for emergency ultrasounds and they confirmed it and saw the IUD. They wanted to remove it right away but cannot find the string. NO IDEA where it is. I don't know what to do b/c there are quite a few risks that I am not willing to take as I have 2 young children who need their mother. Some say terminate before pregnancy hits 3 months. With leaving it in you are likely for infection; 50-60% likely for miscarriage...plus they cannot find my string...maybe inside uterus...just something to tangle the cord knowing my luck. The IUD is also sitting right below the baby...I am worried about it causing damage...Not sure what to do!!!! Sceduled tomorrow for D&C which I am still not sure if that is what I need to do If anyone has similar situation or has made that decision- please let me know

OMG, I am very scared now. I have the Mirena in since August 2005. I have lost about 5 pounds but last night i was sitting on the coach eating a snack and I felt flutters, and have been feeling that since. I am so scared b/c i have a seven month old, and a full plate of things going on. I was not planning on having another baby for at least 3 more years, that is why i choose the Mirena, plus my dr said that it was the best on the market. I am also b___stfeeding my daughter so my b___sts hurt off and on, and I just had a 8 day period. but it was like mostly spotting and i spotted a little (light pink) earlier today. my family dr told me as long as i am not spotting between periods then dont worry about it. but i am so stressed. see my periods are usually only 5 days. but since i have had mirena in i have been having maybe 1 to 3 day periods. I have been sick to my stomach(sometimes not even wanting to eat anything), very tired just like i was when i was pregnant before. i hope I am not pregnant because i really want to wait for 3 more years. i want to enjoy my daughter for a few years first.

I myself is scheduled for the Paragard IUD to be inserted... After much thought, this was the best conslusion for me in BC... I have just gotten off the Depo shot that i had been on for 4 years and using it for so long caused the body some complications... however I did not get pregnant once on it nor did I have my period :) it was great.. I had to get off of it though, because the limited amount of time your are suppose to be on the shot is 2 years and i was on it for 4.5 years... My bone density decreased, my strenght decreased, i had fluxuated weightgain, moodswings, fatigue, tired all the time, headaches everyday. I couldnt take it anymore. I was going to the doctor all the time getting tests done to see if i had any medical conditions as a result.. In the meantime they kept prescribing me anti depression medication and 800 miligram motrin... none of that worked for me and they ended up having to up the dose of the depression medication... Anyway getting back on topic, I did a lot of research for a month of the topic of IUD's and came to the conclusion that the IUD with out the side affects would benifit my body more while in the recovery stage.. However, I dont know how it will work for me, and I dont know if i will get pregnant on it or not.. but what i do know is that at the same time condoms, or celebesy are some options... until my body can get used to the IUD enough for me to start haveing regular intercourse... I have read all the Neg and positive answers in the forum on the IUD and in my opinion most of the women here are on Merina and few are on the Paraguard... To me it looks like i have better chances with the paragard than if i were to get on the merina.... I dont think i could try to trust anything else besides the depo and the paragard... I have had one pregnancy already, I am not ready for antoher...

I am looking for some help.......so is it possible to get pregnant on the Mirena IUD?? and if so does a regular pregnancy test work or do i need to go to the doctor? I've done 2 already and they came back negative, but i am still suffering from the symptoms. I am still scared because I got pregnant on the Depo shot about 4wks before my next needle was due and I was on this stuff for 2yrs prior...someone please help

All I can say is wow!! I have had my copper IUD for a year and 3 months. My last 2 periods were light and I have sore b___sts, sick to my stomach, fatigued, cla__sic symptoms. I took an test yesterday afternoon and got a negative. I looked at the test a few hours later and it was positive. I'm not sure if it was an evaporation line or what. I thought the chances of getting pregnant with an IUD were so slim. I can honestly say I am very shocked. In my case I hope to find out that I am indeed pregnant, but I am shocked to hear that this has happened to so many!
