Carolyn---I feel for your situation, but not knowing is only going to increase your stress until you find out. Take a HPT or , if you just can't deal with it now, make an appointment with your doc. One way or another, you need to find out. Best to do it early so you can make plans & deal with it in some way. Your partner is going to want to know, too. It's important! Remember, it doesn't just affect you. Good luck & let us all know how this turns out, okay? Bright blessings!

Hi everyone. I am headed down the road to resolution. My IUD pregnancy was determined to be ectopic since no fetus was detected in the uterus. Since my hcg levels were irregular and even though they could not see anything on the u/s, I was advised to follow the ectopic pregnancy protocol. Yesterday I had my first injection of methotraxate. I'll have my hcg levels monitored closely to see if I respond. If not, then a second injection, after that is surgery to find the fetus and remove it. My OB is amazed that we caught this. It has been a rollercoaster ride of fright (initial bleeding), excitement of being pregnant, fear of a m/c, waiting and waiting and now having to terminate the pregnancy (wherever it is). Thanks to all for their support and prayers, it feels so good to have a place to come and talk. Oh and yes, I am her first IUD pregnancy, but it IS only 99% effective.

Hi everyone, well I finally saw the doc. good news and bad. the good news is that I'm definitely not pregnant and I don't have a cyst. the bad news is that despite the efforts of two docs and just sabout every "yanking" instrument they had neither could get the IUD out. The did an U/S and saw it higher up in my uterus than normal and it's sitting sideways so the little bugger moved. It was a very uncomfortable and painful experience trying to get it out. So now my only option for removal is a hysteroscopy. I'll be called in the next day or so to have that scheduled. I'm not worried, just a little nervous. the second doc I saw was my old Ob/GYn. It was cool seeing her again. The rude nurse never came up. I was too focused on having the IUD removed. Anyway I'll probably post again after I have it out. Good luck to all of you and thanks for your support.

Holly- I'm not having a hysterectomy, I'm having a hysteroscopy. Basically they'll put a camera inside my uterus to see the IUD and retrieve it that way. My female organs will remain in tact. It's a fairly simple out patient procedure and is considered to be minor, No worries:)

I have had the Mirena IUD for about 3 months and have felt pregnant ever since. If you look at the side effects of the Mirena, you'll notice that a lot of them are the same as early pregnancy symptoms. I have taken 4 tests over the past 3 months because I felt the exact same way I did with all three of my pregnancies. I am having the IUD removed after researching all of the complications and side effects...I'm tired of worrying about being pregnant all the time!!

tara- for the same reasons as you I decided to have my IUD removed. if you read back a few postings you'll see that my removal attempt was not successful but thats because my strings are high in my uterus. Doc had told me that typically after 6 months those symptoms reside but I'm tired of the migraines, vomiting, acne and taking epts because i'm anxious that I could be pregnant. I don't blame you.

I am completly in shock I have been having bad cramping off and on. I havent had my period since my mirena was inserted sep of 2003 so I thought it was strange. I could still feel my strings and my doctor said my body may think its time to start my cycle. Today my cramps felt stronger and I had some spotting. Tonight I went to the bathroom and after I wiped I felt something sharp I pushed slightly and there it was my IUD! I am completly terrified that I could be pregnant if it has been sliping out the last few days. Has anyone had anything like this happened? Any advise would be appreciated.

Brandi---No, it hasn't happened to me, but my midwife told me it could work its way out & just to come in to have it "re-installed". While you're in at your doc's to have yours put back (or not), ya might wanna have him/her check for pregnancy. Any way you look at it, you're still going to have to go in. Take a HPT if you think it will make you feel any better, but I'd wait a few days to take it to make sure your results are accurate while you are biding your time for your OBGYN apptmnt. Good luck & let us know what's going on.

Brandi- I thought my IUD was trying to come out on it's own but mine is high up in the uterus. doc isn't sure exactly why/where the pain was coming from. Anyway, do take a HPT just to make sure and do see your doc. theres a chance that your iud came out for another reason-your body can suddenly reject an IUD just like a organ transplant recipient. Also you might have an infection. Anyway these are just guesses. Just an FYI it's likely your doc will want to insert a brand new one for sterile reasons but they can always send off the old one for a___lysis to see if something went wrong with it. good luck, i hope everything is alright

Angela - I'm glad I'm not alone!! I hope my IUD comes out easier than yours...I'm sorry you're having to go through so much to get it out...But I guess those types of complications validate your reason for having it removed.
