Angela - I'm glad I'm not alone!! I hope my IUD comes out easier than yours...I'm sorry you're having to go through so much to get it out...But I guess those types of complications validate your reason for having it removed.

Update, I had a pregnacy test done at the DR. and my results were negetive. That was a relief because after all the stories I read I didn't want to go through being pregnant with the IUD present. I am thinking of removing my IUD because for the first time ever my pap results were abnormal due to HPV an infection. I read and was told that IUD can likely give you infections. I would rather remove it now than have another pregnancy scare or another abnormal Pap my body and health come first.

I am 31 years old and have 5 children. I have gotten pregnant on 4 different foms of Birth Control and if my suspitions are correct that number is getting ready to be 5. I have had the Paraguard for almost 2 years. I can still feel the strings exactly where they are supposed to be, but I feel pregnant. I am tired and emotional and I am about a week and a half late. My cycle is 28 days without fail. A five day period with predictable flow. I am going to take a hpt tomorrow, but I have a feeling I won't be surprised with the result. I am so scared of the possible complications. This is the only site I have found with any kind of info or support. I was too scared to get my tubes tied because of the risks of a tubal pregnancy...my Dr knew this and suggested the Paraguard. Now I find out that the IUD increases my risk of an ectopic pregnancy. Thanks for the informative board.

But this is the first time ever i have gone 4 weeks without a period, i already have two children and have not had the usually symptons only sore b___sts on and off, diahorrea for week, loads of clear jelly like discharge and bloated belly ad since last nite had bad stomach ache lik someones squeezing my womb constantly i have had 4 pregnancy test in 2 days all with a very very faint line that you really have to look for any suggestions my strings r in place just so strange for me not to bleed all time

Debbie- I would highly recommend you get in to see your doc asap. they should do an HCG pg test and possibly an u/s. because of your hpt results I'm concerned that you could have an ectopic. Ectopics tend not to put out as much hormone as a normal pregnancy. I have also heard that some types of ovarian cysts can make the hcg hormone. good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Hi Holly, welcome home. How was your visit with the MIL? I have my pre-op appt this afternoon so I've been making a list of questions to ask the doc. As nervous as I am, I'm starting to look forward to the surgery next week. I mostly just want it over with.

I'm not pregnant. I am very relieved, but now very nervous about trusting this thing. I go in for a check-up next month. I think I will discuss other options with my gyn.

I would leave it in if the complications weren't life threatening. Aug.1 i took mine out it was very discomforting recently after we decided to try for a baby if that would happend to me i would look at the risk and go for whatever was going to be safe for you and the baby.

jessica just want to let you know that since you had your iud in since 2000 your body is going to need time to get back to normal it is just like when you first get an Iud you have all these symptoms but then some of them eventually goes away that because when they first put it in your body knows it is not suppose to be there so the longer it is in your body gets a diifferent tune your body starts to thinking it is suppose to be there and when it is removed you have side affects because your body is getting a different message. just trying to give some info because I went through this but I had mine taken out because of pregnacey I have my BSN in nursing and work for GYN doctors officre and have seen this several of times. If yout menstral does not become normal after or within 3 months of taken it out you might want to get a check up.

Hi guys! I had my copper IUD for 3 years and now my husband and I are wanting to get pregnant again. Last month we tried for the first time and I was feeling pregnancy symptoms and was a week late before I started. Do you think that it is possible that all of the copper was not out of my system and prevented implantation? Were any of you told that you should wait any specific amount of time before trying to get pregnant?

Leslie- from what I understand all IUDs thin out the lining of your uterus. I have the mirena IUD. It varies from person to person how long everything returns to normal. My doc told me I'll need to use some form of BC right away after I get mine out because I could get pregnant right away. We don't want to get pregnant right now and I'll have to wait 2 weeks after surgery to have s_x to prevent infection. I'm having my IUD out surgically (due to mising strings)because of bothersome symptoms and complications. I have heard of women getting pregnant less than a month after removal and for others it takes awhile. I hope you can get pregnant soon. I don't think there is a real golden wait period. good luck
