IUD Pregnancy

jpof5 - My dr. told me that the uterus can expel the IUD at any time. It is most common after child birth, that is why they recommended that I get mine inserted when I was 3 months post-partum, therefore, less chance of it being expelled. The fact that it came out does not mean that you are pregnant.

I'm a newbie to post on here, but I figured I'd ask this anyways. I've had the Mirena IUD in for almost 3 yrs now, since Aug of 03. I've been cramping for about 2 weeks now, but I haven't gotten a period or cramping since before I was preg with my son (who just turned 3). I finally got around to checking my strings and I think I can feel the bottom of my IUD. I took a preg test this morning (neg.) but since I haven't had a period in a long time, I don't know when i'd be considered late. Would it be more likely for me to be preg if it is out of place? (If it has been for 2 weeks, me and hubby have uh ya know plenty of times). I'm 19 and almost have my a__s. degree in college so I didn't want another child for awhile. However, reading this made me worried! Of corse I can't get into the docs for a week and a half (my doc is on vacation and I am really bad about going to the docs so I'm not about to see a different one). Does Mirena typicaly give false neg. test results? Thanks!

I would ride it out and see what happens. You have a high miscarriage rate if you have it removed.

I have a question, I had my copper IUD in for 2and 1/2 years and last week when I was in the shower I was cramping and had a little burning and when I felt down there my IUD was almost out of me. I am 3 days late and I have taken 2 preg test both - but I am very tired, nasuea mostly by smells, and am very emotional. Is it possible that I am pregnant but the tests aren't picking it up? Thank you Shannon

Your risks of miscarriage are just as high, if not higher, if you decide to leave the IUD in utero during the pregnancy. Anywhere from 40-60% IUD pregnancies will end in first, or even more dangerous, second trimester miscarriages, including the very real possibility of a septic miscarriage, which can possibly be life-threatening for mom.

Gemkids: good luck, I"m sure your baby will be fine :-) Atleast look at it this way at 30weeks the chance of living is so high :-) You've made it this far, hopefully you can make it further! Jennbug: After looking around more on this info, I decided to get it removed Monday (tomorrow) I had an apt. last week I had to cancle. I agree that if it's possible to remove it's best to. Since if the strings showing that's like a latter for infections to get right up there. But I do think if the string wasnt out and the IUD was stuck up there it's better to leave it and hope for the best. Shannon: I hope for the best for you too! Maybe go in for a blood test or wait another few days and take other test. I'm thinkin that since Mirena has levg. in it that I hopefully am not preg. that that's still in effect. I haven't even had a period in like years.

Hi all. I am not currently pregnant but I do have a mirena IUD. I started my LMP on April 5th but haven't quit yet. Is this a sign that its moving? I had it placed January 16th and had it checked about 3 weeks ago. Dr said it was fine. Now this and I'm worried. I wouldn't mind another baby but I'm on medication that causes birth defects and I'm not supposed to get pg for at least 6months after its done. Please let me know if your IUD caused longer periods or if you bled when it moved. Thank you. Sara

Okay, I have been reading this site for about three days now. I got the merina in 11/05. I have three year old twins and after having them I had horomonal trouble with all other birth controls. I completely trust my doctor and she suggested that I try the IUD. However, I too am having similar symptoms as I have been reading on this site. I recently called my doctors office and spoke with a nurse and was given the same bad advise that all other women have been given. I was told that my symptoms are an affect of the IUD and since I tested negative for a pregnancy test I should not worry. However, for those who found out through blood or ultrasound, what should I do to find out if I am indeed pregnant. I can't force my doctors office to see me. I keep getting this same nurse Nazi that won't allow me to speak with the doctor. Unfortunately, no one seems to care unless they are directly affected by this situation. Please advise. Thanks ladies for opening my eyes and continuing to share your stories.

Dear forever blessed and the rest of the gang, I am 22 with two kids and have the wonderful IUD and I am pretty sure I am pregnant. I started noticing symptoms last week and I am over a week late. Is it common to have extreme b___st pain with one period when you never have it with any other? I too am dealing with the Nazi nurse who will not have the doctor call me. After my last period my hubby to be hit the IUD so hard it caused a bleeding. The strings were no where to be found shortly after it was put in nine months ago. I come from a very fertile blood line and thought that the iud would be a great resource. All children are blessings and God does not bless us with anything we can't handle. Call a different clinic and get in as soon as you can. Talk with the appointments desk and demand to be seen. We all are learning from the wonderful forum that it is important to be seen a.s.a.p. I pray that everything works out for everyone and that healty babies are born. I will no longer recommend the IUD and will let you know the outcome of the preggo test tomorrow.

Hi Just another UPDATE im now 31+6 pregnant time is real flying and the bleeding has calm down but not stopped, im also experincing some very tense pains they come and go every 8mins then they disappear all together (very strange) i think it could be braxton hicks and this being my 3rd pregnancy my muscle aint as good as the used to be lol also last Wed baby was 3/5ths Engaged very early my midwife was shocked but i was told baby can c_m in and out of engagment so i wonder what the lil madam wil be today lol (seeing midwife at 2.10) Also advice to the other women im sooo shocked by the lack of care you are getting espically being from America (this is a American board isnt it) in America dont you have to pay for your health care??? im from the UK (England) and we dont pay for are health care we have the NHS what i admit is not the best but the treatment iv been getting is a hole lot better. I would tell the NAZI NURSES that you pay for your health care and she has no right to tel you if you can or not see the Doctor that is digusting care, if your Pregnancy tests keep coming up NEG then the only possible way to find out your pregnant is by blood, i found out by a Pregnancy test because i was putting on weight but i was bleeding vry bad i was shocked when i found out i was pregs and even more shocked when i was 10+1 on the scan baby bouncing around not a care in the world and the coil could be seen now the coil cant be seen Babs Placenta has covered it get another scan on the 3rd May. I suggest you get your bloods done asap and go from there take care

I have had the merina in for 8 weeks. I was due for my period 5 days ago and it hasn't arrived. I have taken 2 hpt and both are negative. I have called my gynaecologist who states that this is normal and I am fine. Is there a chance I could be pregnant even though my tests have come up negative. I have sore b___sts, a bloating feeling and my back aches. I feel "full". I also have times where I feel sick. Help!

kittandkaboodle - April 21

35 years old, with 3 teenagers and a 9 year old, having had the Mirena IUD since June 2005 I'm now 40 days since the first day of my last period. Feel bloated, b___bs are a bit tender, and I'm tired and peeing frequently. Don't have the symptoms of previous pregnancies (one miscarriage in 2001 and one Feb 2006 - yes, a miscarriage with Mirena still in). Not sure what to expect. Took a pregnancy test a week ago and it was negative, but it was a cheap store brand test at that. Have an appointment with my doctor on May 1st. I guess I'll see then, if my period doesn't start before then.

I am a 28 year old mo of 3 boys, ages 4 rs, 2yrs, and 6 months. I had gotten my mirena put in at my 6 week visit this past time. Oct/Nov 005 .Well, I had it in for a couple of months or so, and my hubby was starting to say that the strings were "stabbing him". So I checked it and the strings were really short, and sharp. I called my ob, and he said to come in. He checked it out, and told me that my mirena was "Loose". I told him to take it out then, and he did. That was like almost a month ago, Not Even. I am on the Nuva Ring now. However....lol....I have been noticing Pregnant woman literally everywhere I go, and I've found out 2 of my friends are pg. (You know that pregnancy radar), and For the past week, I have been really irritable, super nauseaus, and really tired. I took a pg test last week, and it came out negative. But I am figuring that maybe I just took it too early. I am really scared because I was on a 5 year plan ( since Mirena is a 5 yr IUD) That we'd decide if we were going to have 1 more. I am sooo not ready right now for another baby. My baby now was not a planned one. I think I will wait like another week or 2 before taking another test. I was on a regular period, but since I had the IUD put in I was spotting a lot, and I don't actually know when my last real period was. My question is has anyone been told that their mirena was Loose, and if so have you gotten pg because of it??? Thank you for your time!

kittandkaboodle - April 23

My question is are we all getting negative pregnancy test results because the hormones in the Mirena are interferring with the test? I'm asking for a blood test next week. I'm now 42 days since my last period and no sign of it coming anytime soon.
