IUD Pregnancy

My period is 2 weeks late I guess I dont really feel pregnant, I have had a slight pink discharge for a few seconds 1 or 2 days in the last 2 weeks. I have taken a HPT and it came back negit_tve ( i had to take 3 before i got a positive result with my son) I didnt know there were so many women who have gotten pregnant on the IUD so I am getting nervous - the only time I have missed a period is when I was pregnant. Ant advice or anyone going through the same thing. I dont have insurance so I dont want to spend the $ if its not necessary

That must be scary being pg knowing the iud is still in place. I had the paraguard and it was removed as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I'm about 7 weeks now and had a great ultrasound last week where we saw the baby and saw and heard the heartbeat. I'll be thinking of you all and hoping that your pregnancies go well and if for those that think they're pg, find out soon so you can discuss all your options as soon as possible. Rocki

hello all, i have been reading posts here for a couple of days now, and i am so confused...hopefully someone can give me some advice....i too had an iud, i had it put in in october of 2002....in april of this year i started having really bad cramps and pain down my left leg at the time of my period. after my period in april(i just grinned and beared the pain) i still had the pain in my leg. finally in may(after spotting and bleeding most of the month and pain in my lower back and lefft leg) i went to the er, i had developed chills and hot flashes and the pain was unbearable.i could also feel more of the strings of my iud than normal, all they did was check the iud, give me a shot for pain(which didn't help any) and make a follow-up visit for the next day with an ob/gyn. when i went to the dr's appointment the following day, the pain in my back and down my leg was so unbearable that i could hardly walk... the dr said that my iud was still in place but i insisted that it be removed(which only took a second). the dr said that the pain should quit by that night, and she gave me a "stronger form of pamprin" to ease it. she said that it was probably trying to expel itself from my body. i was just relieved to have the d__n thing out. after it was removed, i bled slightly that day, then the next day i had stopped(i had it removed may 25) i started my period on may 27th, but it was a very weird period, i spotted only when i peed for 5 days then i bled moderate to heavy to moderate to light for the next 6 days. (still having cramps and back pain into my leg) after that for the whole month of june i had pregnancy symptoms: sore and very tender b___sts, nausea, i gained like 20 lbs without eating more than normal, in fact i ate less, really tired all the time, felt bloated as hell(lower part of my stomach huge) very emotional, i just felt pregnant. I took several hpt and they were all negative, i was 3 days late starting my period in june and it was a really weird one too, i usually spot for a day or so before i actually start flowing but in june(26th) i started bleeding heavy, the next day the same thing, but by the end of the day i was only spotting when i went to pee, on the 28th, the flow was moderate when i got up but only spotting when i went to pee by bedtime, on the 29th i was only bleeding when i went to pee and i had hot flashes and chills, nauseated, pain down my left leg, and a headache, and on the 30th, i only spotted when i peed that morning, and my "normal"period ususally last 7 to 9 days....since then i have still been nauseated just about everyday, my b___bs still hurt(they've not been as bad though) still have headaches, and some slight cramping in my back and leg. i was just wondering if these are normal symptoms after having the iud removed, if its just my body trying to get back to "normal" or if i could be pregnant? should i wait and take another test closer to that time of the month (which should be around the 23rd) or what? i still feel very pregnant(my stomach seems to be geting bigger(but only the lower part)...i keep thinking that maybe i'm just bloated...my weight is up and down, like this morning it was 170, this evening 175... i am just confused.....has anyone experienced any of this after having an iud removed?i have 3 kids, so i know what it feels like to be pregnant and right now i feel very preggy....but who knows? if anyone can give me any advice i would really appreciate it.

ok here goes i am a nurse, i am from CT i personally have an IUD(merena) my doctor and midwife both have IUD's my sister in law was told she must've been pregnant before the IUD which is why she ended up with her 3rd baby healthy and beautiful... no complications the IUD came out with the baby...my sister had a copper but kept getting pain and irregular periods and extreme pms like symptoms with the mood swings and back/leg pain, my other sister picture perfect had the discharge for a little while and now after a year no periods and no cramps just happy and loving it... as for myself i have felt pregnant the last couple of weeks so as with my previous 6 pregnancies 4 successful... i didn't test positive until around 9-10 weeks... even with ultrasound but apparently it is possible for some of us to be pregnant and not test positive...and as i understand it the IUD is only suppose to be an internal deterent for the egg to implant not fool proof , not to mention its supposed to thin the lining or make it obsolete and inhabitable, i guess the higher power has other thoughts for those who are on this and get pregnant... oh i also asked and even though you're not suppose to get side effects from the hormone's released in your uterus by the IUD but i think that can't be true no matter how many doctors say otherwise, i mean you are getting hormones in your system, and the thought one of my pregnancies being terminated because of an IUD scared me when i got it, but after the 4rth breaking my water at 30weeks then being born at 32 weeks scared me, however i wasn't ready to give up the ability to have more children so I have an IUD if i am pregnant though you can bet i will be getting my tubes tied for sure... i am grateful everyday for my children and i want to wish all of you who are pregnant good luck, your decisions have to be good for you, not someone elses choice... sometimes we make decisions we are not sure going to be right, but somehow what ever you decide is going to be ok because no matter the choice life for however long it is is a lesson of love, friendship, compa__sion and tribulation and trials but we will understand more, question more, and with the learning will teach someone else something so don't be afraid in your choice... good luck ladies!!! I have been up most of the night reading everyone stories and I am freaking out! I am 21 years old and a mother of twin 2 1/2 year old girls. I had the IUD put in Jan 2004 and I have never had a problem until now. I feel like I am pregnant. I have morning sickness, i feel bloated, my nipples are sensitive and I am really tired all the time. I have taken 3 hpt and all have been negative. Now that I have heard of this happening to other women I am so scared. I have never felt for my string berfor so I dont even know where to start. Like I had mentioned befor I have never had a feeling like this with my IUD and I really think I am pregnant. My husband and I werent ready for another baby/babies yet, but if I am pregnant I really dont want to have another misscarage. A few days ago I was bleeding a little but it wasnt red it was drak brown and it only lasted for a day. My periods have never been normal so I really cant judge it by that. Does anyone have any advice for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jess

I took another pregnancy test and it came up negative... and all my signs of pregnancy have have alamost gone a way... no more sickness, b___st being sore. But new things are starting to happen... my b___st are not sore but my nipples and my areola stay in this swollen and puffy state, my tumy has become harder not rock hard but like bloated hard all the time, and i find my self wanting more food... i normally eat once or twice a day now I eat at least three times not only that but I crave for certain foods, the other day I had the craving for a tuna melt... and I hate tuna, I hate seafood the smell makes me sick but tuna was the only thing i could think of and let me tell you it was the best tuna melt ever! I talk to my doctor and she said that if I had two negative test more that three weeks apart that I should take it as negative and don't worry about it, she said my period being gone for a little over two months now is a regular thing if your on Mirena... But I can't help but not worry what do you all think.... I 've never been pregnant so I don't know if the things that are going on with my body are pregnancy signs... I'm a 21 year college student who is really confused... when talking to my doctor about Mirena it seemed like the perfect fit for me and my five year plan and it just seems like I made a horrible mistake.... Please Help

Just an update. I had my ultra sound last friday and I was five weeks, two days pregnant. My doctor was in surgery and could not see me to dicuss the ultrasound. I was told that she would call me. I did not hear from anyone on friday so I called the doctors office this morning. They explained to me that my doctor is now on vacation for the next two weeks. Nice of her to call me before going! I now need to have surgery by a doctor that I just met today. They saw a cyst in my falopian tube and they said that this is normal and it is part of my egg that releases chemicals into my body. The baby's heart was not beating yet, but they said it should start beating within the week. I am schedualed for surgery in the hospital on Wednesday to have the IUD removed. The doctor did not give me a choice to leave it in. They are going to insert a camera into my cervix and a very small pair of grippers comes out of the end of the camera that is going to get a hold of the IUD and then pull it out. That is if all goes as planned! Nothing else has so far. There is a high risk of miscarriage for about a week and a chance of infection inside the uterise from the insertion of the tools that they use and the open access to germs through my cervix for a couple of weeks. I asked if I could leave the IUD in and he said no, because there would be a high risk of early labor and/or bitrh defects caused by the IUD. I will keep you all updated after the surgery on Wednesday. Please wish me luck, I will need it. Vicki

Blue_Jay624 I t sounds like you are pregnant to me. since you started feeling your pregnancy symtoms back in April you could just be getting out of your first stage of pregnancy and into your second stage. My advice to you would be to get a blood test done. Well either way good luck.

This is really crazy. I have a 6 month old baby and have had the Mirena IUD for about 4 months. Last week I started feeling tired and cranky and hoped it was my period. It never showed up (which is common for IUD) but yesterday when I couldn't stop eating and couldn't make it through the work day without a nap I decided to test. The HPT came back positive. It's only a faint line, but there's definitely a line. Not only am I pregnant (on the magical Mirena that is supposed to be 100% effective and have no complications or side effects) but now I'm also worried about this baby and if there's a chance of it making it. I have a Dr appt tomorrow and it's just not soon enough for me right now. I'm very frustrated to say the least. I should have stuck with the pill.

Has anyone experienced late periods with the Copper IUD? Gosh, I'm freaking out here 'cause i'm late...

rockijames - July 11

Lavi, I had the paraguard (copper) and my periods were never very regular. They were 4-6 weeks apart. Not sure if that helps, but that's my story. Now I'm pregnant and I had the IUD removed about a month ago (at 5 weeks pg). Rocki

So I have read all the stories and am freaked out some. I have had the Marina IUD for two years last february. I always have had a period except for like two months about a year ago. Now I have one faithfully for 7 days. Well this last month I had it for seven days but it was mostly spotting. I have had the stomach sickness going on nonstop for the past almost week. I have been so tired that I can lay down and sleep at any time. I have two children and have known instantly when I was pregnant. This time it is different. I have tenderness in my b___st but not as bad as the last two. I also have had implants put in though last february so im not sure if that would make much of a difference. Im scared and don't know if I am just freaking out for no reason or if there really is a chance that I could be preganant. I have been with my current boyfriend for a year and he is the man I am going to marry but both of us are not ready for another child right now. I just really don't know what to do at this point.....

twinmama84 - July 12

Well ladies I guess I have some good news. I found out today that I am not pregnant. I feel kinda relieved but than again I am kinda sad. I am happy cause there are way to many complications with the IUD but I was kinda of looking forward to having another baby. Well I wish all of you the best.

I have had the Mirena in for one year this month. I was doing LA Weight loss and had lost about 31 lbs until I had this placed. The weight loss quickly stopped, and now I have almost regained almost all of the weight I had lost. How frustrating. So, I go in tomorrow to have it removed and possibly have the copper one placed instead. Within the last 3 months I have had 2 pregnancy scares (not for me, but for my husband : ) ) I have been obsessed with taking pregnancy tests.......straining my eyes to see any sort of line : ) Always with a negative though. What a stressful little piece of plastic!!!!!

JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT ON APRIL 13TH I HAD A HEALTHY BABY BOY NAMED ADAM. I WAS INDUCED 2 WEEKS EARLY AND HE WEIGHED 6 LBS 7 OZ. MY PARAGUARD CAME OUT WITH THE PLACENTA AND I HAD NO COMPLICATIONS THROUGHOUT MY PREGNANCY. I AM SO HAPPY I CHOSE TO KEEP THE IUD IN AND I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO HAS THE OPTION TO DO THE SAME. WE KEPT IT AS A “SOUVINEIR” AND IT WAS SURPRISING TO SEE HOW SMALL AND FLEXIBLE IT IS. I AM STILL ADJUSTING TO THE FACT THAT WE NOW HAVE 4 CHILDREN AS WE ALSO HAVE A 5 YR OLD, 3 YR OLD, AND 2 YR OLD! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
