JUST WANTED TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT ON APRIL 13TH I HAD A HEALTHY BABY BOY NAMED ADAM. I WAS INDUCED 2 WEEKS EARLY AND HE WEIGHED 6 LBS 7 OZ. MY PARAGUARD CAME OUT WITH THE PLACENTA AND I HAD NO COMPLICATIONS THROUGHOUT MY PREGNANCY. I AM SO HAPPY I CHOSE TO KEEP THE IUD IN AND I WOULD ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO HAS THE OPTION TO DO THE SAME. WE KEPT IT AS A “SOUVINEIR” AND IT WAS SURPRISING TO SEE HOW SMALL AND FLEXIBLE IT IS. I AM STILL ADJUSTING TO THE FACT THAT WE NOW HAVE 4 CHILDREN AS WE ALSO HAVE A 5 YR OLD, 3 YR OLD, AND 2 YR OLD! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!

I am so relieved to have found this forum and Im not the only one dealing with this supposidly 99.9% effective form of bc (what a crock of sh*t) . I thought that I was turning into a crazy person! I got my Mirena iud fitted at the end of March/06 and I thought it was the best thing ever....until 2 weeks ago. I started getting pregnancy "symptoms" like sore tingly b___sts, dizziness, extreme tiredness, bloated lower abdomen, no period BUT a negative preg test! I thought it was all in my head and the neg test would make it all go away, yah not so much, everything has gotten worse. I just feel soo pregnant! And I know that feeling, I have a 6 yr old daughter and I had a failed preg. in Dec/05. I took another hpt today and it is still neg. The worst part is I cant get in to see a doctor in my town until July 26! I don't really want to waste anymore money on hpts, but waiting another 2 weeks is gonna drive me nuts! Can anyone tell me about how many weeks they were before they actually got a positive result?

Congratulations Amy!!!! I'm glad that all went well for you and the baby. I had my IUD surgically removed yesterday. I went under anistesia. It only took about 20 minutes total. I asked to see the IUD after I woke up and it was larger than I had imagined. It stll had some flesh stuck to the bottom of it where the IUD had stuck into the inside of my cervix. The doctor said that it was low in my cervix and easy to remove, so hopefully it did not disturb the baby. I go for my third ultasound in a week to sure that the baby is OKl. I am six weeks pregnant. I spotted very lightly after the surgery and have been slightly crampy today, but all seems well. The doctor said that there is a chance of a misscarrage for about a week. I'll give you an update after my next doctors appointment. Vicki

I have always thought the IUD was foolproof...but now I'm not so sure. I've had my copper T for almost 3 years and in the last week I feel so nauseous! I have 2 kids so I know what pregnancy feels like...I hope my feelings are wrong...

well it is true that they would have to dilate your cervix a littlle to get the iud out, there are risks of leaving it in and taking it out however if your doctor is unable to remove it safely then leaving it in seems the more logical thing to do, neither is without risks... an iud is not and never has been a 100% birthcontrol method, sterilization and abstinence are the only sure fire way of not getting pregnant oh and that thing that many woman don't like but to be aside from this getting pregnant is always a risk with all of these birth control methods so decide if you want to go through with it, if you do then give a shot, and understand that there is a more likely risk of miscarriage than with a regular pregnancy... and then weigh what you will do after this pregnancy... i have had multiple pregnancies with 4 successful births and the answer i have lived by is if it is my destiny regardless of what i do then i can only live by it and live as well and as happy as i can with it... there are somethings we just cannot absolutely control... good luck and many positive blessing for you and your family

Hi everyone... I just realized this weekend that I am 2 weeks late with the paragaurd. I got it in March and had no problems other than super heavy periods and my husband complaining about the strings. My periods were still on time with it so I am terrified with it being late. It seems that with the minera it is common to have pregnancy symptoms and not be pregnant but not with the paragaurd. I would love another baby, but not right now... my husband says 3 are enough and we should quit. I took a test and it was negative, but it was a really cheap one and I don't feel I can trust it...I am torn a million ways on what I feel and am dying to either get a positive test or my period. I know it would kill me if I were to lose a baby (we almost lost our son when I was 8 weeks), but am afraid to be pregnant again right now.. I have had 3 c-sections...7 1/2 years ago, 18 months ago, and 6 months ago. My dr said it was not save to stretch my uterus again so soon so I got the IUD because he said it was fool proof..."go home and try it out" (his exact words!!!!) Any advice? Also I know it is more likely to be a tubal pregnancy with the IUD... it that more likely to produce a false negative test? Thanks to anyone who can help me out!!!! (x-posted to IUD malfunction)

Omigosh!! First off my period was due on 7/4/06. It is now 7/16/06 and stillnot a definite positive. One test was positive after about 10 minutes and the first two were negative. The other one I dont know if it was apositive line or an inability to pick up anything line, like it was sorta clear but it was there. My IUD strings are there oh and I have a mirena as well. Now I have never checked them and I have had the IUD for 11months. I recently split up with my ex and was gonna have it removed because of the increased risk of PID with promiscuous people, we'll say. I'm not like that but I did sleep with another guy twice and now, my once regular like clock work period, every 28 days and 5 days long, is gone and my b___sts hurt, I'm tired, I'm bloated and I think I am pregnant. Even though I'm not definite. Oh and the drs. office urine test said adefinite neg. I have an OB appt. on august 4 and I want the iud removed because I odnt like this waiting game. I am 22 and I know I am pregnant again. I already told this opther guy and I wouldn't lke totally flip but.... my son is 13 months old. Good luck to you. I heard that the IUD can shift with weight loss and since april I have lost a good amount of weight but it was all pregnancy weight that had to go any way. Does anybody know about this. I also get cramping every day at the same time and it always feels like my AF is coming. Does anyone else feel like this. My other 3 babies were definite positives but my mom said my little brother wasn't a positive pregnancy test ever and they gave her an ultrasound and she finds out she is 20 weeks along with a little boy. Any thoughts!

hi, well someone asked of the risks to the baby if you are pregnant with an IUD... someone also asked about the potential for birth defects with an IUD... i did some digging and asking around and found that there is no know birth defects from the IUD however you can miscarry either from removal or leaving it in... if it is still in place it can move with the growing featus and can cause complication such as peircing of the uterus, and if none of these things happen to you you are still at risk for infection which can cause miscarriage, and/or preterm birth of the baby...just for statistical sake the IUD has a failure rate of up to 5%... and for those who don't know whether or not they are pregnant, you can get symptoms of pregnancy especially with the Merena as with most hormonal contraceptives... you aren't suppose to have side effects however there is a risk of it ... the following is the best description i have seen for the IUD's side effects and other info: n IUD should NOT be used by women who: Have or ever had cancer in the uterus or cervix Have unexplained v____al bleeding May be pregnant Have pelvic inflammatory disease Have a history of ectopic pregnancy Have Gonorrhea or Chlamydia. Are not in a mutually monogamous relationship Potential side effects from using an IUD include: Mood changes Acne Headaches Breast tenderness Pelvic pain Cramping (copper IUD) Increased bleeding during menstruation (copper IUD) Nausea The Pros of an Intrauterine Device include: Convenient and highly effective Allows for s_xual spontaneity Easy - you do not have to do anything once it is placed inside Lasts up to 5 years (progesterone IUD) and 10 years (copper IUD) Progesterone-based IUDs may make your period lighter and less painful Effects are reversible promptly after IUD is removed The Cons of an Intrauterine Device include: Available only through a prescription Irregular bleeding or spotting may occur during the first three to six months Copper IUD may increase cramps and bleeding during monthly periods May have hormonal side effects: mood changes, acne, headache, b___st tenderness, and nausea (progesterone IUD)and an almost to non-existant menstral cycle after the first year... the IUD is not recommended to women who have not had children due to the increase risk of pelvic infections which could cause sterilization... however some doctors will give a woman who has not had children an IUD depending on the situation of course... so it is not unheard of.

Just another update. I went to the doctor today, one week after the surgical removal of my IUD, and they did an ultasound (my third one so far) and the baby is fine!!! yeah!!! I am 7 weeks, 4 days pregnant. I saw the babie's heartbeat and got to take home pictures of the baby. I am so excited. The doctor said that the risk of a miscarrage caused from the IUD has pa__sed, but that I still have a risk of infection from the procedure itself for one more week. She said to watch closely for a fever. I have been spotting sense the surgery, so I can not use that as a sign of infection and she said that slight cramping is normal in early pregnany, so I can not go by that as a sign of infection either. I have my next doctors appointment in four weeks, just like a normal pregnancy. I am so happy that this IUD scare is close to over for me and that all is turning out well. What a nightmare!!! I will keep reading this board and I will pray for all of you that are experiencing the negitive effects of IUD's. good luck to you all. SWEETELISE, HOW ARE YOU DOING? HOW DID YOUR DOCTORS APPOINTMENT GO? I hope all is going well for you.
