Hey everyone. I stumbled on this site because i too am having strange symptoms. Im 30 yrs old w/ a 3 yr old son. Im married but its a sketchy relationship & i didnt want any more kids. I got the copper IUD shortly after my son was born so ive had it problem free for over 3 yrs. All of a sudden im feeling very run down & tired all the time. Smells & tastes are beginning to bother me. I feel nauseous at night alot. Im retaining water & ive been constipated. Im bewildered. I got a HPT but im waiting at least another week or two because my period is not quite due yet. Ive never had any problems w/ the copper IUD. I can still feel the strings just inside the cervix opening. My periods are pretty much normal except for the occasional spotting between periods. There is more discharge than usual most of the time but ive just started using panty liners for that. Ive been very happy w/ the copper IUD but now im freaked out bucause i feel like im pregnant. Its been going on for at least a couple weeks now so when i do the test i'll check back to let everyone know whats going on..

Hello Everyone. I have a copper IUD (paraguard). I am 12 days late. I have taken 2 home test which both came out negative. I went to the pregnancy clinic yesterday and had a test done there and it came out negative. I have been feeling so tired and very run down. my b___sts are tender to the touch. I keep feeling nauseous and dizzy. And I'm very moody. I'm wondering if maybe it's too soon to tell if I'm pregnant. I already have 2 babies under the age of 2. My oldest will be 2 in June. I thought these IUD's were supposed to be good. I have a doc appointment today to have some tests done and see what's going on.

Wow, this goodness I found this thread! I've been so worried that I might be pregnant, but I have an IUD (Mirena) in.. I've always had regular periods, but now I'm four weeks late. I've been feeling sick and I'm worried that I might be pregnant. I'm so confused though, since on Mirena's site it says it's not abnormal to miss your period, but I've always been regular. After reading this thread, it kind of makes me mad my doctor recommended an IUD that apparently more than a few women have gotten pregnant with.

After reading everything on this forum I am scared and confused. I have 2 boys 22 months and 8 months. I have had the Mirena IUD for 6 months with no periods just random spotting and thick discharge. For the last few days I have had some nausea that comes in waves and hot flashes, I have also noticed changes in my nipples(purplish) all similar to my other two pregnancy symptoms, I took a HPT today and it read negative...could I be pregnant with a negative test? any thoughts?

I've had my Mirena IUD for over 2 years now and haven't had a period since the month after I got it. I've never had any kids (I'm 20). My doctor said it was OK for me to get the IUD since I've been in a committed relationship for some time now. I don't know what it feels like to be pregnant, but I just really have the feeling that I am. It's only been a little over 2 weeks since I've had s_x. How soon can I take a home pregnancy test? Since I haven't been menstruating, I can't really tell just by a skipped period.... April

Moonspirit - April 29

I am 10 days late with my period, and I have a Paragard. I had a Paragard for 10 years with no problems, and had it replaced with another one in October 2007. I have had three negative pregnancy tests, but I feel pregnant. My b___sts are sore and heavy, I feel flushed, my belly is tender. My doctor seems to think it's normal to be late with the Paragard, but I've never experienced being this late before. I'm 41, with two teenagers. At Planned Parenthood, where I took the third test, the nurse thought it might be a result of "just getting older," but my periods have been so regular over the past few years (I was way more irregular in my twenties). I've seen a lot of postings here from women with negative pregnancy tests - what did you find out?

Moonspirit - April 30

Just to follow up - I just started bleeding. Hopefully this is simply my period finally showing up, 11 days late. I would like to suggest that anyone who posts an I-might-be-pregnant story to please follow up by saying how it turned out. Also, for everyone, please include what kind of IUD you have. A lot of us are using this site to figure out what might be happening for ourselves, so the more info you put about your situation, the more helpful it is. I very much appreciate this site. Even though the IUD has worked for me for so many years, I had never given much thought to what would happen if it didn't work. Like someone else said, if other methods fail, you just have a pregnancy. With this one, if it fails, you have a medical problem. I wish you all the best. If this turns out more serious than a late period, I will let you know. Otherwise, a__sume I am not pregnant, just late. I will probably get my IUD removed.

Hello All, After reading almost all the post regarding the IUD I find myself a little left out because it sounds like most of you have had kids then gotten it. I do not have kids, but I am getting married in the fall so my DR. said I qualified for it since I only had one partner. I was a little nervous about it but she insisted that I would love it. So in December of 07' I decided to go with it. The whole procedure hurt so bad I thought I was going to faint. After it was all said and done I had the worse cramps of my life and spotted for about a month. The DR said that was normal and that my body needed at least three months to get use to it. Well it did and I was having my period like I would normally every month, until now. I have not gotten my period, my b___st are killing me and my lower back feels like I got kicked bye a horse. I don't know if it's normal just to stop my period or not. I have a DR.'s apt. tomorrow, and I am scared to death on what she will say. Has anyone gotten the MIrena before having kids and had these problems? Thanks.

mel4you- I have had basically the same experience as you. I got the Mirena put in on March 30th of this year, got married two weeks later- so we stopped using a backup form of protection, and I have not had my period yet. The week I should have had it, I just spotted. I have felt completely exhausted the past two weeks, I get home from work, sleep for 4 hours and am up for maybe 3 or 4 and go to bed and start all over again. The past 3 days my back has also felt like it was kicked be a horse, I've been slightly nauseated with a headache. I took an at home preg test on sunday and it came out negative- just like all these other ladies who turned out to be pregnant. I have been with my husband for five years now- only married for a month now, so we are not really scared about having a baby(ok, a little) but scared because of the fact that it is sounding so dangerous to be pregnant while having the IUD in. I doubt this will make you feel better, but if you need someone to talk to, we are in the same boat. And by the way, when I got my IUD put it, I wanted someone to just shoot me and put me out of my misery it hurt so bad. I was told that I had basically experienced labor. Lovely.

Thank Leapinglads, The first three months after getting it put in sucked. I had cramps, spotted and I got really bad acne! All normal said the doctor. Then all of that went away and I started to feel normal again. No cramps, no pain, and a period every month. Although I did notice I peed out little light pink clot looking things. Do you have that? I am going to the Dr. late afternoon tomorrow so I will ask her a lot of questions to see what is going on. I want kids someday but I want a healthy pregnancy not one I am going to have to worry about all the time.

leapinglabs - May 8

mel4you- I have not had anything weird happen like that, yet anyways. I have only been on Mirena for just over a month though, so I do not know if all of this is just my body getting used to it or not. My body usually adapts nicely to anything, so thats why I started to panic when I started to feel like I could be pregnant. After looking up symptoms of pregnancy, and having 90% of them i got a little nervous. I also have a Doc appointment today so let me know how yours went and I'll update you on how mine did. Good Luck.

Okay, I just got home from the doctor, and she said that the Mirena does not cause any of the symptoms that I have. She had me take a pee test there and of course- negative. So I had her do a blood test, just in case- and to ease my mine, so I'll have the results in a few days. Of course now my worry is, if Mirena is not causing this and i'm not pregnant, than what the heck is wrong with me?!

leapinglabs - May 9

Doc called me back with results already. not pregnant and my thyroid is fine (she checked that also) Don't know whats wrong, but I'm scared of this IUD now after reading all this.

heatherlarsen - May 11

Hello everyone. My name is Heather and I have two beautiful daughters ( 3 3/4, 1 1/2) Two months after I had my youngest daughter I had a Mirena IUD placed. It was really difficult at first but over time things eased up a bit and I got used to it. The last three months (after having a regular period with the IUD the whole time) I started to notice that I have had almost no bleeding! Sounds great right!?!? Wrong. At first I thought it was just my period starting to disappear, which is supposed to be about 50/50 in some cases with the Mirena. But here is the problem! For the last couple of weeks I have subconsciously been noticing strange pregnancy like symptoms. Stuff that you would only really notice if you had been through it a couple of times before. 1.) Nausea and vomiting 2.) Increased appet_te 3.) Crying over commercials on TV 4.) Fatigue/laziness 5.) Exhaustion!!! 6.) Sensitivity of the entire pelvic region and swelling 7.) Enlarged Breasts All of this stuff sounds like normal PMS right.. well not for me.. ever. Then a few days ago I noticed I was "late" and it was like all of the subconscious notes I had been taking in my head all hit me at once, and I started to REALLY think I may be pregnant. After this, I woke up this morning to what looks very obviously like "bloody show" or "implantation bleeding" how do I know....because I remember having the exact same thing BOTH TIMES I found out I was pregnant before. So I shrugged it off and thought that maybe I was starting my period and it was just acting strange (which as I mentioned before never happens). As the day went on I kept noticing the same discharge( Very slimy with tiny pink smears). So I went to Walgreens and bought a twin pack of the Clear Blue Easy digital hpt that either says pregnant or not pregnant. I came home and took both which both came back negative. After this I did a little research on the hpt that I purchased and it just so happens to be the LEAST sensitive brand. Needless to say I have not gone to bed... it is 7:52 am here where I live and I have been up all night going to the bathroom every 20 minutes to see if I started my period or if I need to get my b___t to the doctor. Bottom line is I never think I am pregnant until I am and my intuition is pretty strong on this right now. I guess I am venting mostly but if anyone has had a similar situation with an IUD or with the Clear Blue Easy "Easy to read" or can give me any advice please let me know. Thanks so much for reading all of this!! Heather Larsen
