Hello everyone.
My name is Heather and I have two beautiful daughters ( 3 3/4, 1 1/2)
Two months after I had my youngest daughter I had a Mirena IUD placed. It was really difficult at first but over time things eased up a bit and I got used to it. The last three months (after having a regular period with the IUD the whole time) I started to notice that I have had almost no bleeding! Sounds great right!?!?
Wrong.
At first I thought it was just my period starting to disappear, which is supposed to be about 50/50 in some cases with the Mirena.
But here is the problem!
For the last couple of weeks I have subconsciously been noticing strange pregnancy like symptoms. Stuff that you would only really notice if you had been through it a couple of times before.
1.) Nausea and vomiting
2.) Increased appet_te
3.) Crying over commercials on TV
4.) Fatigue/laziness
5.) Exhaustion!!!
6.) Sensitivity of the entire pelvic region and swelling
7.) Enlarged Breasts
All of this stuff sounds like normal PMS right.. well not for me.. ever.
Then a few days ago I noticed I was "late" and it was like all of the subconscious notes I had been taking in my head all hit me at once, and I started to REALLY think I may be pregnant.
After this, I woke up this morning to what looks very obviously like "bloody show" or "implantation bleeding" how do I know....because I remember having the exact same thing BOTH TIMES I found out I was pregnant before. So I shrugged it off and thought that maybe I was starting my period and it was just acting strange (which as I mentioned before never happens). As the day went on I kept noticing the same discharge( Very slimy with tiny pink smears).
So I went to Walgreens and bought a twin pack of the Clear Blue Easy digital hpt that either says pregnant or not pregnant. I came home and took both which both came back negative. After this I did a little research on the hpt that I purchased and it just so happens to be the LEAST sensitive brand.
Needless to say I have not gone to bed... it is 7:52 am here where I live and I have been up all night going to the bathroom every 20 minutes to see if I started my period or if I need to get my b___t to the doctor.
Bottom line is I never think I am pregnant until I am and my intuition is pretty strong on this right now.
I guess I am venting mostly but if anyone has had a similar situation with an IUD or with the Clear Blue Easy "Easy to read" or can give me any advice please let me know.
Thanks so much for reading all of this!!

I had a copper IUD. I am 22 and have never been pregnant. My IUD was partially expelled and I had to go to the emergency room to have it removed. While there, they checked for pregnancy as a routine thing. My HCG level came back as 5. The doctor told me I could be at the earliest stages of pregnancy. I'm waiting to get my results from my second blood test but I am so scared.
My boyfriend of 5 years is deploying in August for 400 days and the last thing I want is to be pregnant when he can't be here. This should be an experience we have together, you know?
Unlike most of you, I am hoping it isn't viable. If I'm really early on and its etopic, I probably won't need surgery. I'll let you guys know if I am or not when I find out.
I loved the IUD but after reading all this, I'm not sure it is for me.

Not pregnant. HCG level the second time around was less than 2. : )
I will probably give the copper IUD one more shot.

I'm 30 years old and have had the Mirena IUD since July of 2004. I have had times where I have really wondered if I was pregnant. I even went out and got a pregnancy test on more than one occasion. This time I'm really wondering if I might not be pregnant though. Its not the usual things that have made me wonder in the past. I've kinda gotten used to the cramps and random periods but lately I have been tired, I'd say for the last month at least, and oddly enough my sense of smell has been very acute. I noticed when I was pregnant with my daughter my sense of smell was very sensitive too. I'm going to pick up a home pregnancy test today.

I cannot believe how many of us there are that have IUD and are either experiencing extremely convincing pregnancy symptoms or are actually pregnant! I was told by my doctor that it was MORE accurate than a tubal! In the last 2 years I've had a few moments of worry about the IUD, a few cysts, but never actually ended up pregnant (that I know of). Now Im having all the symptoms, tiredness, hunger, headaches, nausea, extreme emotions, increase in discharge/wetness (sorry, I know thats gross), tender b___sts, the works. I cannot believe this is a coincidence that we're all having these issues. I am very concerned that there is more to the IUD that we have been lead to believe. I've had 2 negative tests so far, and will wait a little longer to test again, but even if Im not pregnant, this is NOT NORMAL, nor do I think this is all in our heads. I know none of us have any real answers for the most part. I mainly needed to vent. I dont feel like Im losing my mind anymore, not with this many of us out here. Those of you who've had the symptoms, give us an update! Those of you actually pregnant, we DEFINITELY want updates!

I'm really glad I stumbled onto this website. I've been having strange "pregnant" symptoms for the last two weeks and I have had my IUD for about 3 years, as well as 2 years before I got pregnant with my son. I'm definetely not wanting to have another child right now. I'm going to see the doctor today and I'll update what is going on...took an hpt and it was negative, but after reading all of these responses I want to be sure. Thank you, ALL OF YOU, for putting up your responses...It really forced me to face the situation instead of just hoping that it wasn't there.

I'm so glad I found this site. I've had a copper IUD for 3 years and found out 2 weeks ago I'm pregnant. I was going to the bathroom constantly and thought I might have a bladder infection. When I realized I was almost a week late I took a HTP-positive. First trip to the doctors, they couldn't find the string. Second trip, sonograms confirmed the IUD was in place and the baby implanted right next to the IUD. Who knows where the strings are! Doctor says to leave the IUD in. Taking it out would cause a miscarriage. I'm very nervous since it's so close to the baby. Anybody have similar story or advice? I'm about 7 weeks and doctor says the first 12 are most crucial. We're praying for a healthy baby. He admits to never handling a pregnancy like mine. Any imput?

Wow what an amazing site...I have been "feeling" pregnant now for the past few weeks and I have had a mirena IUD for the last 3 years. My periods are really light and irregular so it is hard to judge from that but I have really sore b___bs and have this never ending "sick" taste in my mouth. I have 4 other children- the youngest is now 5, I am 41 and this is not on the agenda for me at all. Doctors a__sured me this was the way to go.I am not quite game to take a test yet but will work up the courage in the next few weeks if the symptoms dont go away. After reading this site though, I am not too hopeful of the result that i want.

Im right there with you. It's been over 2 weeks since I started feeling the symptoms. I went to the dr on Friday (after 3 neg hpts) and she said that there are usually 2 main causes of this. The first: skipping ovulation, which apparently sometimes happens with the IUD. She said it throws your hormones off and can sometimes imitate the signs of pregnancy. The other option was that I have a small cyst on one of my overrees (which I've had before since getting the IUD 2 years ago). Lastly and least likely she said was the possibility of being pregnant. The test they did in the office was negative, but she said if the symptoms didnt go away soon to call her back and she'd do a sono to be sure everything is ok. Just something for those of us suffering these signs to think about!

If your doctor hasn't treated anyone with this before, you might strongly consider a high risk OB. They'll have a much better idea of what they need to keep an eye on! Fingers crossed for you and your little one!

Wow I had no idea so many people were getting pregnant on IUD's. This is not good for us ladies! There is a reason we have IUD's put in and it is not because we are wanting to have more babies right now!! I have had the ParaGard IUD for almost 3 years and have loved it...until now. About a week ago I started wondering if I was pregnant. I had b___st tenderness, a bit nauseated, and was peeing all the time, oh yeah...and I was late. I have always been a bit irregular so I wasn't too concerned about that part. I decided to take a hpt just to make sure, it was positive. I was quite enjoying the denial because I have an IUD darn it and that means no babies, right?? So I took a second test this morning, again positive. I'm in complete denial. I know I should probably go see my doctor soon but it is all so surreal. I have some questions. Has anyone had a recent healthy baby from an IUD pregnancy? If so was the IUD taken out, left in? Any stories about it being left in? If so where was it at time of delivery? Placenta? Baby? Anyone who has had it implant in a strange way and it caused deformities or problems with the health of the baby. I am looking for real answers. I am in the medical field so I thought I had this all figured out. Apparently nothing is 100% - except abstinence and being married and abstinence doesn't make for a very happy marriage!! :) Trying to stay positive...

Well, I went to the doctor and took the blood work test...negative. i still have not started and now it's been quite some time. I was doing some of my own research and I have been diagnosed with ovarian cysts and it looks like that could be responsible for the pregnancy symptoms. As far as my IUD, I'm not sure what to do...I may have to have it removed because of all the complications that come with it. I'm hoping to try and find some treatment for the cysts, though I don't think there really is anything out there. I'll check back if anything changes!

Took four at home pregnancy tests...they all say that I'm pregnant. I'm waiting to get in to see a OBGYN, but it's taking some time. I'll write back and update.

At Joyfullmommy: yes, there have been quite a few reports of healthy normal IUD babies, but there have also been losses as well. It's really important that you go see your doctor asap! They need to take a look by sono to see if they can remove the IUD safely. If they can and the pregnancy is uninterupted then everything should be pretty normal. The risks do go up if the IUD stays in, so the sooner the better. Good luck and keep us informed!

Calleiah, Thank you for the information. I did go in and was advised to get the IUD out ASAP. I was informed of the risk of miscarriage but also advised that it was something I had to consider (miscarriage at 6 weeks versus miscarriage or pregnancy difficulties in the second or third trimester). I decided to have it taken out that same day. It was removed and there was no bleeding, so they said that is a very good sign. I am waiting for an appointment with a high risk OB. Should be in the next 2-3 weeks to do an ultrasound. I will keep you posted. Thanks again. :)
