Update .... 6 long days have finally pa__sed and I had my 4th pg test today. Numbers jumped from 4,700 to 19,901 and the nurse said they're happy with that. Next week I have a 7 week ultrasound to find a heartbeat. I will update next week. So far, I, like Laurie, also started with a low hcg number following ivf but so far so good. Go you little Aussie battler!!!

I am about 5.5-6 weeks pregnant and my first HCG Level was 485 then 4 days later it was 989. Does this sound as if will go full term. The Dr.'s office want me test again tomorrow. I just was to get excited.

I am so glad i found this site! Well on 4-20 my period was 2 days late but since it was my first month back on the pill i figured it could have just been that but i took a pregnancy test just incase. well the test was positive so then i got another test just to be sure and it was positive as well. then i decided to be really sure i would go to a clinic and get tested there as well and again it was positive. I was thrilled!!! I told my family and friends who were all very supportive, I am only 20 and attend college, so i was afraid of how they might react to me deciding to keep the baby but everyone was overjoyed. So then I woke up on 4-23 and i was bleeding, like a period bleeding it was red, so i went to the ER because its better to be safe then sorry. I did a series of tests and since i had started the pill this month my period was expected at a different time then i would normally get it and so the timing is really off and im not sure how to predict the date of my last period and stuff like that. so the doctors concluded that its either really early in my pregnancy or i am miscarrying. So my HCG level was 90 and i was to be tested in 2 days. I got tested again on 4-25 and my new level had risen but not doubled from 90- 110. My "period" stopped on Monday night and I had no cramping and there was no clots of any sort. So then they said i should get tested again in 48 hours...so now it is wednesday and i got tested and when they called they said my levels are about the same and I am having a miscarrage. she said i will probably begin bleeding again in a few days and thats when the miscarrage will occur if it hasnt already?!?!?!?!? So i have an apointment tomorow and they said they wanted to remove whats left of the misscarrage...i forget what she called the procedure but I dont think that i want to let them do it now that i know you can let nature run its corse and everything. I am just so confused and wonder if there is hope in this situation? Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

Jamie; your doctor probably wants to ensure that everything comes out or it could cause you to get an infection. I think he is doing it extra as a procaution. I am sorry that is happened, and I hope you are doing ok. Pray about it and let God give you the answer. I am sorry!!

Hi All, I'm new to this site. Just learned that I'm pregnant, but on pins & needles. This is my 4th IVF and drs. aren't hopeful that this will work out for me. Here's the story: We did PGD (genetic testing), due to former miscarriage, and a 6-day transfer. This wkend, on day 8 post transfer my HCG level was only 14.2. 2 days later it went to 22 and now, 4 days later (12 days post transfer) it's only 41; it's not quite doubling, but it is increasing. They think it may be ectopic, but can't do a scan yet. I have to go back in 2 more days. Just did some research about low HCG #'s and it looks to me that I could still have a slight chance if my level is up above 100 by next week. What do you think???

Update: I went to see the doctor today and it turns out that my cervix is still closed and i am still pregnant but my hcg level numbers are acting strange...the dr. says that sometimes this means a misscarrage and sometimes its just your body adjusting and i am earlier along then i thought. So thats positive for now. I am getting tested every wednesday to see what happens with my Hcg levels he says that if they increase and start doubling then I WILL be having a baby!!!! and if they decrease then i will be having a miscarrage:(...or if they stay about the same i have to have my tubes checked for eptoptic pregnancy. So keep your fingers crossed for me please!:)

Sorry for the 'x' - I thought you might need to register first so I was testing...anyway, my situation sounds similar (yet not the same) to many on the board: I had a period at the end of February, as usual. Then, in March, I was expecting my period near the end of the month around the 28th...I got it on the 30th and have been bleeding ever since (I see it when I wipe - varies from red to brown - - I have inserted my finger at times to find more or less blood)! About 3 weeks ago I told a girlfriend who said it sounded similar to a miscarriage she had...I wasn't trying to get pregnant, and wasn't expecting to be pregnant (I am a 32 year old woman who has been with my boyfriend for some time and we are very careful...obviously, not careful enough...)...the test came out negative (I bought a 2-pack early result; used both)...a week later at the doctor's a urine test came out positive. Last week a blood test showed hcg of 61 and Monday it was 163...obviously not doubling. I had some more blood drawn yesterday and will find out more tomorrow. The doctor doesn't feel it is ectopic, although, I didn't question him enough on why he thought this. I don't know...even if it does go up, I am very leery...I can't imagine the pregnancy is truly viable with these factors, and worry that even if it does survive the baby will end up with defects or something due to this trauma. My doctor is stating we need to wait it out, but I am going crazy. I somewhat want to get an abortion...normally something I wouldn't consider (even though this is an unplanned pregnancy), however, I just feel the pregnancy is not healthy and why prolong the inevitable. Thanks for listening!

Here's what's goin' on with me... Had my last period March 3-10. Did the Chlomid and FSH shots. Started wondering if I was pregnant when my period didn't come. Went to buy a test, came home to take it and had started bleeding. Just my luck, I think...$20 out the window. That night I cramped REALLY bad. Sunday (4/10) I pa__sed a funny lookin' clot. Took a HPT on 4/12 which was positive, so I went to the dr. who did an U/S which showed nothing and my HcG level was at 29. He said I most likely had miscarried. Went back on 4/20 for more bloodwork to make sure my HcG level was going down. It had gone up to 169. On 4/23, had more bloodwork. HcG went up to 229, but still nothing on on the U/S. Started spotting brown only when I wiped on 4/24 and have had it ever since. No cramping or red blood though. More blood on 4/26 that showed HcG level at 260... Anyone ever heard of a miscarriage with rising HcG levels afterward? Dr. won't confirm or deny that I'm pregnant... I have to go in on 5/3 for a better U/S (in radiology dept.) and more needles... It's SOOOOO crazy. All I think about is what's going on with my body. At this point, I could really careless about being pregnant. I just want to know what is going on. My dr. did say, however, that 15% of pregnancies have slow to rise numbers... Any hope?? Who knows...

Hi everyone, I am going through a very similar situation, I've been dealing with infertility for about 5yrs. To make a long story short, I have had two 2nd trimester loses. Which was devestating. I have done a recent IVF cycle, in which my numbers are very low, I went for my 1st test on 4/22, and the num was 12, and 4/25 up to 31, and on 4/27 46, I am told it could be a chemical pregnancy or an ectopic, I am not bleeding at all, nor having any pain. Does anyone have any sugestions? I'd appreciated!

Cheryl - April 29

Hi Rachel, Your situation sounds a lot like mine. I, too have been going thru infertility for 4+ years, and have done IVF 4 times - w/ one miscarriage. My HCG #'s this time are in the same range as yours. I'm going back tomorrow for another blood test, and going crazy. My dr. is telling me that the prognosis is NOT good, but not to give up, either. If the #'s continue to rise, it could mean a viable pregnancy, but the odds are against us. They're worried about mine being ectopic, too. All I can say, is make sure that your drs. are monitoring you closely. (I'm going every other day), to avoid the risk of an ectopic pregnancy bursting, but it sounds like you, too, are still too early to be concerned about that at the moment. I have some cramping & lower back pain which is bothersome. I wish us both the best of luck and pls. write back w/ any updates. When are you getting tested again?

to Cheryl and Rachel - April 29

I think its something like 15% of all womens hcg#'s are slow to rise in a healthy pregnancy. Hopefully you will fall into that percentage. I'm sure your Dr.'s want to give the pregnancy every chance of surviving before making any judgements. A chemical pregnancy is one that usually happens before your missed period, no??.....I had similar #'s as well. In my case the slow #'s meant i was in the early stages of a miscarriage. They began testing my #'s at about 4 weeks. By 5 weeks pregnant I started to spot and subsequently miscarried. Both your #'s are low enough to not worry about an ectopic just yet. The higher they get the larger the fetus gets. Once the level reaches above 1000, they will probably perform an ultrasound to see if they can spot anything. If it's early enough, they can give the Methotrexate shot(usually hcg's being under 2500) to dissolve anything in the tubes. Good luck ladies. Keep us posted.

Brandi -- Please try not to worry. As you see from reading all these forums, you are in the very early stages of pregnancy and your low hcg levels and the rate at which they are rising can mean NOTHING. Yes, they could mean everything, but try to keep the faith. I have read many forums and believe me, you are not alone. I love you. Mom

Brandi - April 29

Thanks Mom! Now you'll say you think I'm pregnant, huh?? HAHAHA

Take each step slowly, breath a sigh mof relief that it has worked, I also had ivf and am now 5 weeks 5 days. the blood result doubles, so dont worry. I only had a blood test at 5 weeks- only done urine test at 4 weeks the real pain with ivf is that you know so early and the worry can set in, try to relax and not let it bother you too much.

TC - April 30

I am 5 weeks from my last menstrual cycle. I took 3 hpt all positive and got confirmation from dr. I went on tues 4/26 for beta level #76 then again on thurs 4/28 #102. I was told that although they like to see numbers double between 48 and 72 hours that since the number my # is going up and it was only 48 hours and not 72, I shouldn't a__sume the worse. I have no cramping or bleeding. I am tired, urinating more frequently and as of this morning now have b___st tenderness. I am still really worried. Anyone have the same?
