I am 5 weeks from my last menstrual cycle. I took 3 hpt all positive and got confirmation from dr. I went on tues 4/26 for beta level #76 then again on thurs 4/28 #102. I was told that although they like to see numbers double between 48 and 72 hours that since the number my # is going up and it was only 48 hours and not 72, I shouldn't a__sume the worse. I have no cramping or bleeding. I am tired, urinating more frequently and as of this morning now have b___st tenderness. I am still really worried. Anyone have the same?

Hi everyone. I just found out I'm about 2 weeks pregnant. I have alread had 5 miscarriages. This is scary and never gets any easier. Tuesday I took my first HCG Test, 75. Thursday it was 113. Saturday, today, it is 175. My doctor says its not common to have low numbers, but its not abnormal. She has now told me to keep my hopes up, but possible to start cramping and bleeding. After the second test she said it could be tubal, won't know until I get an ultrasound at 6 wks. No miscarriage is the same. My experiences show the earlier, the less painful, but mentally all very hard. I am also taken Heparin Shots for this pregnancy. The doctors don't know if the Heparin will even help, 50/50 chance for my condtion. So I am keeping the faith, praying God will give me this one. Your choices of miscarrying: Ride it out, one of mine took 3 months before I started to go back to normal. I have taken hormone pills, that also took time for the miscarriage to complete, and the DNC, this was the quikest. If you choose this, just make sure there is no chance of your pregnancy being a success. There's always hope! I pray for all of you and hope you have success and have beautiful babies!!! God Bless You All!

I'm also looking for a little encouragement! After an IVF frozen pre-embryo transfer 14 days ago, I started my HCG at only 8. It has since doubled in 48 hours, but is still very (very) low. Is there any hope that all will be well, if the HCG doubles in another two days?

I'm just amazed about how common of a problem this is. I recently found out I'm pregnant because I started having really light bleeding/spotting around 4/12/05 and was feeling sick. My LMP before that was 3/13/05. The spotting continued for 2 weeks when I was finally able to get an HcG test on 4/29 which was 226. Dr. said this was low and wanted me to wait a whole week for a 2nd test. On 5/1/05 started bleeding almost as heavy as a period with some cramping and Dr. did the HcG on 5/3/05 and it was 454... not doubling as it should. Dr. still wants me to do another hcg on 5/6. He says there's still hope and after reading your stories I can feel a little bit of hope. I stayed home and just cried all day from the stress and uncertainty. I've had 2 miscarriages before but do have one very healthy 3 year old son. Both ultrasounds done so far are "inconclusive". Maybe I've totally miscalculated??? Will keep you posted.

Just wanted to give you an update. The hcg level on 5/6/05 was only 100. Looks like it's miscarriage #3. Wish I had a better story to tell you...

I have a similar "slow rising HCG" story to share, and not many answers, unfortunately. This site is helping me cope. I went to the Dr. after having some light bleeding that lasts 3-4 hours. HCG test on 4/29 was 39, 2 days later 49, 2 days later 73, then 2 days later I got my hopes up with 133. Then I waited 4 days, it is now only 233. I wonder if I am monitoring things too closely, short of having a tube rupture, I would have rather found out by actually miscarrying than by all this torment and limbo. But, I do want to hold out and make really sure before letting the doctor intervene. She says she is willing to monitor me. I will go in again next Monday unless she tells me to do differnet. If she says I should end it, I am going to try to get a second opinion. But I think she is doing her best ans is a good doctor. I send you all my prayers and good wishes.

Hi, I didn't have an IVF but had a tubal reversal done last month. I suspected I was pregnant and did a hpt on 4/30 and it was +. My doctor ordered an hcg on 5/2 which was 85 then on 5/4-132, 5/6-121. I was told this was a bad sign because of the drop and they suspect possible ectopic. Another hcg was drawn on 5/9-136. They did an ultrasound today and couldn't see any thing in the tubes or uterus. The doctor offered me the choice of having the hcg drawn one more time tomorrow and if still under 200 he wants to do a d&c and either laparascopic to see if there is a ectopic or methotrexate. I can't give up the hope that this is just early since I'm only 4 weeks past my lmp. I wish you all good luck and I thank you all for posting your experiences. I am believing God that all will be well. You all have given me some encouragement. Thank you!

I was reading Jane's story from 5/10 and my story is similar. I had an hcg of 30 (14 days post ovulation). 48 hours later it was 53. At 21 days post conception I'm at 153 with a progesterone level of 63 which is good. My doctor told me yesterday to come back tomorrow (5/12) for an ultrasound and more blood. He says that there is an 80% chance that I will be going down hill from here. Has anyone else out there had a similar problem with low rising hcg and a successful pregnancy? He doesn't think I'm at risk for an ectopic.

Cheryl and Jane ~ My story is very similar to yours. Hcg's 34 & 48 two days apart. Then, 132 a week later. I finally went on to miscarry naturally. I was about 5 1/2 weeks along. Please let us all know what happens in both your cases. It is soooo important to share information on this subject. When i was going through it, I just wasn't sure my Dr. was giving me the right advise. But after listing to other womens stories, I had more confidence in what she was telling me and what I should expect from her...... A few things she did say to me that may help - She said that nothing could really be seen on ultra-sound( in the tubes or uterus) until the hcg #'s were closer to 1000. Also, ectopic pregnancies don't usually present symptoms until the #'s were higher. And finally that many ectopics go on to miscarry on their own early on. As I said, I did miscarry. And they could not be 100% certain it wasn't ectopic. I really hope you both have better outcomes than I. It would be wonderful to hear something positive. If not, we are all here for support. ** God Bless**

Thank you Beth.

Beth and Cheryl, Thank you for your posts and good wishes, I definitely return the prayer that all will be well. I got a battery of tests today in preparation for a methotexrate shot tomorrow. My doctor is certain that this is not a normal pregnancy and is concerned it is ectopic due to the signs (I have bled some and do have a persistent pain in lower right side (though it's mild)). My HCG level went to 316 today from 233 2 days ago. It seems to be doubling at 96 hours instead of 48. I tried to go to work today, but started crying uncontrollably and felt like a total fool. I also stayed up all night worrying because not only would I like to keep the pregnancy and it looks like that wont happen (especially it wont if I get the shot) but also over the persistent cramp/mild pain in my lower right side. The doctor said it is where an ectopic would be, but it is very hard to diagnose that this early on. Part of me wants to wait until Monday to see if it's at 1000 or 1500 and then maybe we could see it on the sonogram and rule out ectopic. So far we have seen nothing, but my HCG is not high enough to see anything yet anyway. The other part of me wonders why I would wait and risk a ruptured tube for what my doctor says is not a normal pregnancy. I feel some peace in moving on and feel that having waited 12 days already I have given this a shot. But this is very hard.

I am going through the same thing right now. On 4/23/05 I had a positive very light pregnancy test. Then HCG hell started 4/26/05- 76 4/28/05- 102 5/2/05- 188 5/9/05- 677 5/11/05 855 On the 9th I had an ultrasound and they said that I was not where I should be for 6 weeks. They saw something that in my uterus that may have been a 2 week sac, a pseudo sac or maybe something abnormal on my left side. They just weren't sure. I am going back again to the doctor on friday to take more blood and do another ultrasound. I am really hoping that I am just earlier than they thought based on my lmp, but I don't know. This is my first pregnancy and I am just so scared. I know it's not good when the numbers are not doubling but I am hoping that things will be ok. I have no cramping or spotting. My b___bs hurt and I pee all the time. The waiting is unreal.

Tiffany & Jane: I really feel for you both. The dreams I am having over the last two nights about having a dead baby or "something" inside of me is driving me crazy. I am 40 years old and this would be/would have been my 2nd child. I've bee through 7 IUI's and my clock is ticketing. The money, time and effort that I have spent over the last 1 1/2 years to get pregnant is creating too much stress on me right now. Jane - you should wait until Monday to get the shot. I've read too many stories on this website that indicate that there are other women out there with slow rising hcg's. Although our odds are 50/50 I think you should wait it out again until Monday. Tiffany - good luck tomorrow on your test. I have my first ultrasound today and more blood work. I really feel that something isn't right.

Cheryl, I wish you the best of luch today. Please let us know how everything goes.
