Dr Bartsich is going to refer me to a fertility doctor in March.... I called just to check out some other NY Cornell doctors and so far most of them are out of network.... Ugghhh! Gotta find a in network doctor... Too expensive... Dr Bartsich wants me too hurry because I am 35 and he doesn't want the fibroids too return or scar tissue... When I get the HSG...I believe I will know if anything is wrong... Dr Bartsich did leave a fibroid in that had grown on top of my uterus. They shaved it down... That was the one that was acting as birth control. I pray that it didn't grow. I won't know anything until around the 3rd wk of March. Pray for me!

Monet - what insurance do you have? I am at Cornell and some RE's take insurance. Note, that CRMI (the clinic) itself does not take any and you need to put in for reimburs____nt.

Sparkette-Thanks for responding... CRMI? Wow, thats the one I found online. I called most of the doctors and so far... None of them take insurance. Thanks for the info. I have Empire Blue Cross... Are you at the CRMI clinic? Do you know of a good clinic that takes insurance? Have you heard of a doctor named Dr Kofinas? I read that he is suppose to be pretty good but on another forum I read that he starts you out with strong drugs, right away. Not sure if that is good are bad...

Ms. Monet,
Before deciding to have my myomectomy, I consulted a fertility specialist Dr. Stein from Roosevelt Hospital. He confirmed my doctors recommendation and told me if I had any problems after the myo conceiving to see him for treatment. I really liked him and his style... he was calm, kind, informative and knowledgeable. I also have Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield and I used my insurance at the clinic. Here is a link to their website:
nywomenshealth.com/infertility
I will also ask around about good Cornell doctors who take insurance... I know a few people who delivered at Cornell, who might have some info regarding doctors. Take Care, Juliane

Hi MsMonet. CRMI is the fertility clinic within Cornell. I have Empire BCBS and my RE is Dr. Kligman. He takes the insurance, but it is CRMI that does not. (I heard a rumor that Dr. Spandorfer may take BCBS as well.) I called BCBS how much they would pay - all they would say is "reasonable and customary" of the CRMI costs. I'll know more after this cycle and see how much we get back. GL with what ever you decide.

Hi everyone. I wanted to drop a quick note to say that I had my myo 4 weeks ago & it was a sucess! My dr removed all my 23 fibroids ranging from 1-8 cm. He said when he removed one, he found another, then another and as such, my surgery lasted 6 hours and he removed over a pound of fibroids!!! My fibroids weighed 8 times more than my uterus. I was floored when he told me that. I was in a lot of pain---a lot of gas, back pain, soreness. I had a difficult time getting in/out of bed, sleeping, sitting comfortably, laughing, coughing, etc. I knew it would hurt but I don't think I was fully appreciative of that. lol! But with time, the pain eased and life has started to go back to normal. I feel good. I'm still a little sore but nothing major. I went back to work after 3 weeks. I've been rubbing vitamin E for the scarring. I even got my period which was much shorter & lighter, but I still had cramps. I'll see my dr next week for a follow-up and I'll ask about the cramp issue but other than that, I feel good. I just wanted to share my news and again say thanks for your words, support, understanding & prayers. I will continue to read this site and offer any and all support, since this site brought me such comfort. You are all in my prayers. :-)

Congratulations on your surgery ru93! I am glad it was a success. It sounds like you went through almost same things as I did and you went back to work after 3 weeks! WOW!!! Thank you for the E vitamin tip too! I was just wondering what I can use to soften my scar since some part are still uneven. Thanks for sharing your story. :)

Hi Suzy Q. Thank you and congratulations to you too.!! Our stories do sound similar, specifically the # of fibroids that were removed. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. Re: the Vitamin E-- I had a lumpectomy 2 yrs ago & my surgeon told me to rub vitamin E on my scar. It worked wonders!!! You can barely see my scar & it is as smooth as if I never had surgery. When I had the myo, my surgeon also suggested vitamin E, so I went to Costco and purchased the mega size bottles. haha!! I'm thinking of using it for other scars I have. I use it once a day. The only thing is that it is oily & sticky so after I rub it in, I put on a light tank top and then my blouse, sweater, etc. But you are welcomed for the advice. Glad I could help. Good luck to you and please keep in touch! :-)

Hey Ladies...Hey ru93 (I emailed you a few times)!!!
I've had my surgery too on 2/7. I am still off from work but feeling much better. The doctor took out many fibroids that had clustered together to form 3 large fibroids. They took out 383 grams of junk!!! I am still a little sore mostly on my right side but I am feeling much better thanks be to GOD! I had the robotic laporoscopic myomectomy. My surgery took about 3 hours! Neenka

Hey Neenka!! I was wondering how you were doing. I sent you an email the day of your surgery wishing you well. I'm soooo glad to hear that your surgery was a success and that you are feeling better. It's funny you mentioned the pain in the right side or your body b/c I had that too-it was sharp, but it went away. Feel better soon and write back when you can. All my best!!

Isn't it a relief that after years of haboring and nourishing unwanted clusters of nuisance ........ that you can once more, own your body back, and finally be released from this dreadful bondage. Btw, kudos to all the "new graduates". With God, all things are possible.

Thanks for the congrats on the myo graduation MsMonet & MsPositive. haha!! I too am glad that this part is over & now that my body is going back to normalcy, I can feel the difference--I don't go to the bathroom every 10 mins, I don't have the constant bloated, hard stomach, I don't have pains when I bend to tie my shoes, etc. I actually feel lighter & although my stomach is NO where near being flat (I need to go to the gym for that- haha), it is less pronounced & softer. I had fibroids for years and never knew it. I had alllll the symptoms but my obgyn never diagnosed them. Upon getting a new obgyn and having the myo, I am amazed at how different life is, on this end. :-) Again, thank you!!!!

Now that my myo is done...the doc told me to wait at least 2 cycles before ttc. How's that sound? I wonder how long will it take for me to conceive. In the past...even though I had miscarriages, my dh would look at me and I ended up preggers. Wonder if it will be just as easy! I trust God that we will hold the next baby to full term.
