I am someone who was fortunate enough to have a tubal ligation failure in 2004 and now have a 16 month old son as a result. I had regretted my tubal ligation for years and was thrilled by my surprise pregnancy! We are currently going through IVF to conceive our next child. Our first cycle failed and we will be doing a frozen embryo transfer next month (April 17th).
I wanted to share with you my discussion board for women suffering from tubal ligation regret. It's a great place with a lot of supportive women and a lot of great information. I hope you all join us! http://www.fittobeuntied.com/forums/

Some background: After 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls, I decided I'd done my part in populating the world. Baby factory is closed for business. I was 32.
Told the dr. I wanted a historectomy. He wouldn't do it, said it'd send me into early menopause and it had to be medically neccessary. Suggested a tubal instead. I signed all the papers saying I wanted it done right after the 4th one was born. I was, and still am, positive I don't want another child. This was done Dec. 1999.
I'm not sure what type of tubal, but I'm DEFINITELY going to find out Monday first thing. Or at least get the ball rolling.
After the tubal, my periods have always been 3-4 days. Day one light, day two I'm like a faucet, then it weans off. It started out 3 days, went to 4 after a couple years.
Toward the end of last summer it increased to 5 days. Started spotting a week before and after...during s_x.
I got the tubal because I come from an extremely fertile family. My last 2 (also miscarried 1) was with my ex, who had an accident when he was young which the dr. said gave him a 17% chance of ever getting anyone pregnant. I was pregnant within 2 weeks of being with him.
I am now wondering if whatever was done has reversed itself. After reading these messages, I think this may be true.
I became worried this month, and found this board after I decided maybe this isn't in my head. I believe I miscarried two weeks ago. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PERMANENT!!!
For a month I was sick. There's a virus going around. Very tired, achy, sick to my stomache, the worst headaches I've ever had. But bf pointed out that I was eating much more than usual and gaining weight. I said "when I have heartburn and my stomache is upset, it helps to keep something in my stomache." I didn't think anything of it until today. Things seem to be pointing to something I never would have imagined.
I had what felt like last stage labor pains for 15-25 minutes two weeks ago. Sat here crying, couldn't stand, couldn't talk. Had to watch how I sat for a couple days after, and s_x was nearly unbearable. It faded to cramping every now and then over the following 5 days, mostly on my left side.
I started my period yesterday, but it isn't right. What should have been day one light flow started out with a clot nearly the size of my fist...about half the size of a lemon. I normally get cramping, but there was none, just big bright red clots. They kept coming, getting progressively smaller.
Day two: should be heavy flow, a pad change at least every two hours. I'm getting light flow, lots of clots.
I went to the dr. 5 days ago, 1 week after the "labor pains." He checked everything, nothing is painful, everything's where it should be and fine.
I think I managed to get pregnant and miscarry???
This is scary. I got a tubal because I don't want any more children. I want to enjoy myself, and the children I have. I don't want to have to worry about birth control...that's what tubal's are for!
If I'd have known that 6 yrs. later I'd be worrying about getting pregnant again, at almost 39 yr.s old, with my first g.child only 2 wks. old...
I told that dr. to clip them, cut them, burn them, tie them, anything he had to do to make sure I wouldn't get pregnant again.
The procedure was done 2 hrs. after my daughter was born. They had problems finding the left one; it had hidden behind my uterus. It only took 15 mins - 1/2 hr. for the whole thing. I should have known it was too good to be true.

I have signed up for the message board on the site. I've been reading as much as I can to prepare myself. My husband is so excited, he has been glowing. I am very excited about the possibility of having another little one. Even though I have three beautiful, healthy children, I have never felt like my family has been complete. The reason I had the TL is that I was in a bad marriage at the time and he convinced me in my ninth month, one week before I gave birth that WE didn't want to have any more kids. I regretted it since day one and after I met my current husband (who doesn't have any children of his own), I knew that it had been a huge mistake. I bet you are getting so excited. Only a couple of weeks to go and you will be whole again!

can I sue if I get pregnant after a tubal
|
|
|
|
|
|
No, I am sorry, you can't sue if you become pregnant after a tubal. When the procedure was done you signed some paperwork that said "In small print" mind you that it was not 100% guaranteed. Therefore, you do not have any legal standing to sue. Sucks I know, but I guess if there is one thing you learn from this kind of ordeal it is always read whatever you sign and if your doctor or anyone else tells you there is a small percent chance something may fail, by all means look for a different way. My husband got fixed after I got pregnant and miscarried five years after my tubal. figured twice the protection should do the trick.

Go and have a pregnancy test. It definitely is possible to get pregnant after this surgery, but seems to only happen to the ones who don't want another baby.

to emily...have you considered adoption???

to jenbear - no I have not considered adoption. I don't want to be pregnant, but once the baby is born it will be loved and wanted of course. There is no way I would give up my baby and my partner is very excited and happy about it too. I just wish I had realised that tubal ligation isn't always as successful as people think.

I am 25 i have 2 kids 6 and 5. I also misscarried in 99. i had my tubal in 2001, i asked the dr what exactly was done. His nurse said there wasn't anything written in my chart and he said he remebers tying them.. Even though it was 2 years after the proceedure when I called him.. I have gone for up to 6months at a time with out a period. The past year it has been irregular but still coming.. but I haven't gotten it since jan. I've been really tired and have gained weight, i recently cut out sugar in hope to lose weight. But I am still getting bigger but only in my middle. My b___sts are tender and seem to be getting firmer and bigger. I told my husband and he thinks its all in my head.. He always knew when I was pregnant before so he says he would know if I was. I really want another baby. I have always regretted getting my tubal but i was 20 with 2 kids and my mom thought it would be better to get it done. My husband and I agreed but now we want another baby. He just thinks its impossible. Thanks for giving me hope.. Im scared but hopeful!

OK, so I am a little freaked out. I am over a week late for my period and no sign of it. I usually feel b___st tenderness and low back cramping prior to it. It was supposed to come on or about the 14th. My husband and I are currently separated and proceeding with a divorce. I know I should just take a PG test but I have limited funds right now. If you were me, how much longer would you wait until taking a test? It could just be stress but, jeez, I've been stressed before and didn't miss a period. I did miss an ovulation (what the doctor said last year and I felt preggers then). I had my tubal in July 2004 at the age of 28. Is it true that when younger women have a tubal done, the change of the body repairing itself is higher?

I had a tubal ligation in may of 2003 after my last son was born. I am now 5 weeks late, I have always been as regular as can be. I have taken 2 home pregnancy tests both of wich were negative. I am also having a lot of symptoms of pregnancy. I am the mother of 3 wonderful boys. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do.
