Stephanie- I took progesterone during the first trimester and into the second of my pregency because I started spotting after about three weeks. I was sure that I was going to miscarry. Thank heavens the progesterone helped sustain my pregancy and I now have a beautiful nine-month old baby girl. I too was worried that the progesterone might cause the baby to have some problems or sustain a preganancy that was not supposed to be. I even forgot my pills on a weekend trip and went to the pharmacy begging to please have two pills to get me through the weekend. She did, but questioned if I should be pregnant at 38. Don't worry about your baby being abnormal because of the progesterone. It is a hormone your body normally makes and for some reason ( in my case, age) it is no longer making enough. Don't worry and pamper yourself . You deserve it!

Hi all, I was going along fine 1 suppository daily 200mg my number last Wednesday were prog 35 and hcg 57,000. The doc said GREAT! Monday I had a sono sac looked 6 weeks, but no fetal pole, so she said possibly too early to see one let's wait 10 days. On Thursday, I wiped and had some staining, so I went on Friday for a sono. They said sorry no heartbeat and they said the sack measured 8 weeks, how did it go from 6-8 in 4 days? I am not bleeding and have no cramping. I am extremely nausea and exhausted. Why are my numbers so high and why I am so sick if I have missed? Is it possible twins and it is too early? Doc wants to do a D&C on Thurs, but my husband and I think we should wait. Any thoughts?

Absolutely untrue if youre in your first trimester. they like to see higher numbers because theres a correlation between term pregnancies and higher progesterone but you only need a level of 9 in trimester one and some women have carried pregnancies with lower progesterone than that. 10 is fine. your doctor can prescribe progesterone cream to give you a little boost. the spotting is another story. I have to warn you that 50% of women who spot in the first trimester lose their pregnancy. Its unlikely your progesterone was a problem since its in the normal range. You need to make sure your pregnancy is ok with an ultrasound. thats all you can do. I know women whove spotted and carried to term and women whove spotted and lost the pregnancy. There is no way to a__sess risk other than having an ultrasound. if the baby checks out ok, they will just keep monitoring you.

Kee, I have read they like to see over 10 in the first trimester pregnancy. Yes there are women who have carried with less but better to go on progesterone for rea__surance, IMHO.

Julia my sis got preggers at 39. Whose business is it what age you are preggers! The ghaul of some ignorant people. Women well into their 40's get preggers. I don't understand who she thought she was to say such a thing! She must have had someone say that to her.

So glad to have found this website. I had a m/c in March2006. At 11 weeks the Baby was only about 7 weeks and no heartbeat. I had the D&C on March 20 and then got pregnant again around May 17, the first time I ovulated. It was somewhat of an accident the doctor said to wait 3 cycles.
I had always suspected some progesterone problem since I had very irregular cycles ever since I went off the pill in February of 2005. I think I only ovulated once or twice in 2005. Anyway, because of that I insisted that they check my progesterone this time and it came back 3.6 at about 16 days after ovulation, so that means I'll have my second misscarriage. They checked the HCG last Wednesday and again in Friday and today to see if it doubles which it did. But I never heard of such a low progesterone level making it. I also had some bleeding so they decided to not put me on progesterone. After doing al that research I think I would insist next time, but now it's probably too late. I also don't feel pregnant at all. I'm just so tired of all this and so scared I'll never have healthy kids. I have an us tomorrow, but not expecting too much.

Oh, and I also have hypothyrodism. I'm taking thyroid hormon (since about 3 years) and everytime they check the TSH is ok. Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Suse, they are wrong, your HCG doubled, that's good, demand getting the progesterone from them! For all they know the embryo is developing fine and the progesterone will help maintain the pregnancy!....please insist on it or threaten a negligent law suit.

Suse, my progesterone was at 3 and I was bleeding and I am now 10 weeks pregnant. I havea baby inside with a healthy heartbeat and am on progesterone supp. twice a day. Do not give up...talk to your doctor. I was bleeding very heavily at 4 weeks and they thought I was miscarrying but everything seems ok now. I lost my first at 24 weeks due to potters syndrome in January. Do not think you are going to miscarry...I am living proof that with a progesterone of only 3 you can have a normal healthy pregnancy. They tested my levels twice since and the last time it was only at 10. I have never had problems in the past and have always ovulated on time and got my period like clockwork. Hang in there!!! Please update us.

Hi again, thanks for being so nice. I just came back from the ultrasound. They couldn't see any pole yet, but the sac was still there. They said it's at 5 w 3d, which I don't think it can be. It should be at 6 weeks. I think what happend was that it stopped growing 3 days ago (which was when I started feeling even less pregnant than before). Anyway, they still didn't want to give me progesterone, because I'm still spotting. That doesn't really make sense to me. I have to go back tomorrow to get the hcG checked again, and if that's still doubling the nurse promised me to call another doctor about the progesterone.

Thanks for all your support. I actually started bleeding like crazy today, bad cramps too. That's the second m/c in 3 months. I'm kind of worn out from the up and downs. At least I don't have to do the D&C this time, i hated that last time. I'm just so mad I didn't take progesterone right away. I'll try to talk to a specialist soon, and then maybe take progesterone for the second half of the cycle and then just hope I ever get pregnant again and everything goes well for once. Ok, I'll stop rambling now.
I hope you all are doing well.

Suse, hugs to you....and please don't blame yourself for not taking the progesterone. The embryo could have stopped developing for many reasons and for reasons unknown which has nothing to do with progesterone. But yes please take some bloodwork in the second half of your cycle, at least two to check out progesterone levels. In pregnancy progesterone levels can be low if the embryo stopped developing which causes drop or they could be low just because the corpus luteum is for whatever its reasons not making enough. Taking progesterone in the second half of your cycle is safe, even if your body does not need it, many take it for rea__surance...

Yesterday I was supposed to start a new clomid/IUI cycle, but when they did the blood test, it came back positive at 24. I didn't even think I ovulated, but I must've on CD36. Unfortunately, my progesterone was 0.4 and I have been bleeding for 4 days and my RE thinks I am going to miscarry. I had more bloodwork today and my HcG went up to 33, but my progesterone is still under 1. They won't give me supplements and want me to let nature take it's course, i.e they want me to miscarry. What should I do? I called my ob/gyn and they agree with the RE, that it is not a viable or healthy pregnancy. I think I might go buy some natural progesterone cream at the pharmacy and start using it tonight. They want more blood on monday...
