Subchorionic Bleeding

I hear your frustration. The worst part is that my Dr. told me that they don't even know that the bed rest makes a difference. It seems to have helped others on here though, so I figure there is nothing to lose. I don't understand why there isn't anything they can do and why they don't even know what causes these bleeds/tears. I'm having a hard time viewing each day as a blessing. I just want to know how this is going to end so I don't have to spend each day wondering if this is going to be my sweet baby's last day with me.

In June of 2004, I started to bleed at 11 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound found a sub-c bleed and I was immediately put on bed rest for 2 months. The bleed grew to almost 10 cm. I was diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant which is an antibody that attacks a particular protein in the blood. I was later prescribed heparin injections in addition to a baby aspirin each day. My case was solely pregnancy induced. I'm happy to say that my son was induced at 37 weeks in December 2004 and is almost a year old. He is happy and healthy and a complete miracle.

I am 8 weeks & 3days pregnant. Started bleeding last week. I thought I was miscarrying. (miscarried 8/2) Lots of bright red blood. Was told by my Dr. that it was a SCB and that it was O.K. Today I started bleeding again. Only when I wipe though and it's not bright red. Mostly brownish color but enough to cause me concern. The nurse at the office told me that it's basically in God's hands. No bed rest was ordered or any limitations other than pelvic rest. Any suggestions?

I am glad to hear of your good outcome. I also have a sub-c bleed and am now taking lovenox injections once a day (similar to heparin). I have had a hard time finding anyone taking these injections and was very nervous about it. I trust my doctor, but it's still scary. I have a blood clotting disorder similar to yours which they only discovered on this, my 4th pregnancy. I am 17 1/12 weeks now and pray every day that things go well and I have a healthy baby. Have you heard of others taking injections who have also had positive outcomes? Congratulations on a healthy baby !

I have been following these post since I found out I was pregnant. You ladies gave me so much hope and I don't want to take your hope away, but these things do not always go away. I was diagnosed with a subchronic bleed at 7 weeks. I had nothing but brown spotting up until 2 days ago when I pa__sed 2 huge clots. I seen DR. this morning and there was no heartbeat and the baby is gone. I am devastated!! I don't know how to deal with this. I have tried to concieve for 9 years, this was first pregnancy, I was 12 weeks. In memory of my precious baby!!

I am 9 weeks pregnant and have a similiar problem. Last night, I had a gush of bright red blood about 8 hours after s_x. I was sure I had m/c (I have a history of m/c), but the ultrasound showed a healthy kicking baby. The bleeding also stopped after about a 1/2 hour and I have NO cramps. The MD said it was a possible SCB, but I am so confused. They advised pelvic rest and follow up with my MD. Did any of you experience your bleeds within 24hrs of intercourse? I am so worried I am going to lose another one. Thanks and good luck to all of you. God bless!

Hello - Yes I expoerienced bleeding 24 hours after s_x. Bright red bleeding that lasted several hours. I, too, had just miscarried in August and though I was again but ultrasound showed baby O.K. It has now been about 2 weeks and no more bleeding. Just hang in there and rest. It has made a difference for me. it may take several days for the blood to clear up. It won't be bright red anymore though. Or, at least it shouldn't be. If it is, I'd check again with your OB doc. Good Luck!!!

This subchorionic bleeding is really a fancy name for placental abrubtion, although sometimes if its small the membranes may not rupture, you should take an anticoagulant...if your not check with your doctor and ask about the risk of blood clots!! also this can recur in future pregnancies if left untreated and there are underlying causes to this i.e., scaring, issues with the lining of the uterus etc... so its VERY important to find underlying cause and get treatment it can become dangerous for mom and baby if left untreated the bleeding can form clots and could cause obstructive fetal vasculopathy, reduced oxygen and blood to baby from the clot (obstruction). and these clots and travel in mom and cause possible DVT or block lungs of mom and so on. I dont want to scare you but I've been through this more than once and we lost a baby to this problem, the baby was full term, this needs to be treated, and once this occurs so does successful pregnancies usually!!

Samara...my daughter was diagnosed with a small subchorionic hemorrhage at 7 wks, they saw the baby with a heartbeat & she was told not to lift, strain, etc. At 10 wks she started spotting again & the ultrasound showed no heartbeat & the baby had stopped developing at 8 wks. Her doctor couldn't tell her whether the sch caused the miscarriage or not. In your post you said its important to find the underlying cause. What type of tests are needed? Did you have a blood clotting disorder that caused your subchorionic hemorrhages? Thanks for any help...Diane

Unfortunatly it sounds like you're having a miscarriage, it can take the body a while to get rid of the entire contents of the uterus. I had a miscarrge at almost 11 weeks but the baby was only about 8 weeks at the most so it died a couple of weeks before I actually past it.

I wanted to share some of the information I have found about subchrionic hematomas. They are formed when a blood vessel burst and in turn it begins to clot which forms a blood clot, or hematoma. This will usually not cause harm to mother or baby, but this is not always true. It is important to know how big the hematoma is and where it is located. If it happened during implantation, it is a higher risk of a bad outcome. This is because sometimes during implantation, when the egg attaches to the uterus, it can attach to a blood vessel, this is not good because this is the same sight your placenta needs to later attach to. The risk is that the placenta will not attach and then miscarriage is inevitable. Smaller bleeds tend to go away where a larger bleed does not always go away and can cause miscarriage. Also, one women informed us that this is a fancy way to say placetal abrubtion, it is not the same thing. It can cause a placebtal abrubtion but they are two different problems. A placental abrubtion is only cla__sified as one after the 20th week, before this it is just a misscarriage or late misscarriage. I lost my baby on Dec. 1st, to a subchrionic bleed. Dr. never told me it was huge or that it was in a bad location. Just wanted some of you to be more informed about the questions you ask your Dr. I think if they just would have been honest about how bad the bleed was this wouldn't have been such a shock for me.

This morning (7 wks) I had spotting that turned into heavier red bleeding. I went to the hospital for an ultrasound & blood draw. They told me to remain hopeful & come back for another blood draw in 48 hrs to see if there is any hormonal drop.7 hrs later, I had an half hour of cramping & ended up miscarrying. I was fortunate to have found this website this afternoon. It is a difficult sudden loss but reading everyone's stories a__sured me I wasn't alone & this had nothing to do with my small daily coffee fix. I am also very glad I contacted the doctor right away. If this was to happen to us, I was glad I was well informed & it happened early. The doctor said that he's seen some that have had healthy pregnancies after episodes of bleeding. Good luck to all of you. Keep your hopes up & continue to share your stories

I too was diagnosed with a subchorionic hemorrhage at 11 weeks 4 days. I woke up to bright red blood on my bed and then went to the ER a__suming the worst. They found a heartbeat, performed and ultrasound and advised it was a subchorionic bleed. I stopped bleeding within 2 days and then at 14 weeks, the bleeding started again, but was dark brown and has been here for 4 days going on 5. I am a worrier, but my DR heard the heartbeat (very strong) yesterday and checked that my cervix was closed and found only blood and mucous not tissue. Re-a__sured me that 90% of these turn into healthy babies. Please pray for me as this is very hard to deal with after having a very healthy baby 25 months ago with no complications.
