Subchorionic Bleeding

Hi Ladies, I am 13 wks +3 days preganent and was diagosed with subchorionic bleeding at 9 wks (my first ob visit). The measurement was 3 cm at that time. It went up to 5.9 cm at 11wks with active bleeding and cramping. The bloody discharge disappeared after 5 days. At 13 wks, the sono showed that the bleeding area is 9.1 cm x 2.3 cm, but I do not have any bloody discharge right now. Does anyone remember your measurements of the bleeding area? I am so uplifted by the good news and faith here. Good luck to everyone. This is my 3rd.

I am so glad I found this site- I am 8 1/2 wks with my 4th child and have been spotting with some cramping for the past week. I had an u/s that showed a strong heartbeat and my md a__sures me that everything is fine and it's most likely caused from the placenta implanting itself but I got up this morning an had bright red blood after I went to the bathroom. I can't help but think it sounds just like what everyone on this board is talking about. I'm wondering if this could be what I have but it just hasn't been diagnosed yet ? I never had any bleeding with my other pregnancies and this is has me and my husband very anxious. Any advice?

Susan the only advice i can give at this time is for you to take it easy and call your doctor.I've been diagnosis with small sub-chorionic bleed but i haven't had any bleeding, just cramps.I'm 8weeks pregnant and this will be my third child. When i first came across this site it was very helpful to know that i wasn't the only person going through this.Everybody here is very helpful and supportive. But i do wish you well and keep us updated.

Hi everybody- I had my u/s on Tuesday and saw the heartbeat again (167) this time. The bleed is a tiny bit smaller (2*2*4 now instead of 2/3/5) but it's closer to the cervix. I'm hoping it stays put and reabsorbs. Anyway, my doc said that aside from the giant bleed, the pregnancy is progressing perfectly and that I just need to not exercise or do anything strenuous etc. I go back for another u/s a week from Monday. I guess there's no way to tell what my ultimate outcome will be, so maybe i'm in no position to give advice....but...I really really think staying positive is so critical- just because we have these bleeds does not mean we should be robbed of the joy of pregnancy-even if we don't get the outcome we hope for. Anyway, I hope that all of you are doing the best you can to stay positive. I've found it helpful to continue to remind myself that my chances (with this subchorionic bleed) at a positive outcome are not worse than the average person's since the normal chance of a miscarriage is right around the same 15-20% (I know this comes from only one study I found--but it has helped me through the days :-))

Nat, Are your measurements in cm or inch?

Nat - February 16

Sorry---they are in cm.

Hope/Denise and Susan - Welcome girls. I would just like to say that I am a proud postiive statistic and still going strong at 26 weeks. So my advise would be to stay positive and strong and rest heaps (I swear that is what helped us). I discharged brown from 5-8.5 weeks with a couple of days of red and then at 11 1/2 weeks I pa__sed a clot the size of my palm and bled profusely and cramped (went to hospital for a couple of nights) and then discharged brown for a couple of weeks and haven't seen anything since YEAH! I am so relieved and happy. From the statistics Nat has given, they are so rea__suring that most situations turn out ok and I think the success stories in here proove that. GL. Beckey - Congrats honey that is fantastic news I am so so happy for you.

Sarah - thanks so much for your rea__suring info. I have not been bleeding lately and go in for my next ultrasound on the 23rd. Maybe I'll get lucky and find out that it's healing. I have seen from almost everyone that I shouldn't be doing much heavy lifting. Does anyone know how much weight is too much? My daughter weighs 26 lbs. and her daddy isn't around much to help. There are some things that I have to lift her for, but I try not to lift her too often. I'd appreciate anybody's thoughts. Thanks.

Sheree -- Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I have to take today off because I started having brown discharge after about 2 wks of the first bleeding incidence. I read a post yesterday that brown is OK. I felt much better today. I am a working mother and always want to make sure that my coworkers can count on me. However, because of these unpredictable bleeding episodes, I just have to take days off without prior notice. I think that I am adding stree on myself. How did everyone else here survive at work? I know that stay-at-home moms face a more tough situation because you do not get time off from HOME!!! Saraastm --- I remember reading a post saying that the doctor said to one lady about a limit of 10 lbs.

SarahS - February 17

Hope- Make sure you call your Dr. about the bleeding. Mine had told me that the brown bleeding was normal so I didn't call when it started (also about 2 wks later). It kept up for a few days and I had some more pain and it ended up being a 2nd tear. I don't want to scare you, just make sure you call to make sure eveything is still ok.

Hi Sarah -- I called the doctor after seeing your post. She told me to rest until I see the high-risk ob specialist next Tuesday. After seeing some of the post here, I asked her where the placenta and the bleeding are. She told me that the placenta is close to the cervex and the bleeding is near or right on placenta from the picture. I remember asking the sono lady if the bleeding is close to the placenta and she said no. I don't know how to make sense out of these. I'll see what the specialist says on Tuesday. Thanks for your reply and encouragement... Becky --- I wish you good luck, too. We all need to keep ourselves happy and uplifted. Have a great weekend.

Hi ladies: An update from me. My blood test results got back indicating that I am MTHFR positive. It is a blood disorder which causes blood to clot. According to the doctor, it leads to the bleeding in placenta. I found another thread on this site about this disorder. Has anyone of you been tested for this? One of the cla__sic symptom is multiple miscarriges. I happen to NOT have any miscarrige so far. I thank God for protecting the baby and me to this far (14wks and 3 days). The baby is still normal with all the complications that may a__sociate with this disorder. It is a miracle to me.

Nat - February 23

Hope- I also am positive for MTHFR. When I found out, I did a lot of studying as it was discovered after my second miscarriage. (the first was caused by a uterine septum) This can cause increased blood clotting by causing increased levels of homocysteine. The treatment for it is B-12 and Folate. I also have another blood abnormality and because of the combo I take a low dose of aspirin each day to reduce clotting. All in all my doc and my second opionion doc indicate that the MTHFR is very common and in fact often DOES NOT cause raised homocysteine levels or miscarriage. But, having already had two, i am taking the vitamins and aspirin as a precaution.... I hope you have continued good luck! So far so good here. I am 9wks 2 days today and everything is still good. How is everyone else? Nat I

Hope - February 23

Hi Nat: I did not get a detailed description from my doctor what exactly was done with the blood test. I doubt that they did a genetic test for MTHFR. I am suspecting that they actually tested for the homocysteine levels in the blood as an indicator for MTHFR. Do you know more details? My husband and I may go to see a genetist to determine if we carry the mutations.
