Joanne - sorry to hear that. Yes we are at an increased risk of miscarriage but you just got to be positive. There are many stories of women who have healthy babies despite SCH's. Here is a heartening website:

Take care, keep us posted Joanne.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in London. How horrible!!! Even when the whole 9-11 thing happened I was way on the other side of the US.
I can't imagine the devistation. I just wanted to give a quick update.....I had another u/s (I've had three in a row, one each week) and for the first time
they told me that my sch is getting smaller!!!!! My spotting has decreased to almost nothing and I am feeling less worried. I am 19 wks today. I have been off bedrest by my own choice for two weeks now and feel great! We found out it's another boy....(my husband only makes boys) and that we might have a bigger than average size baby. Even that coudln't put a damper on the good news of my "bleed" shrinking. Bring it on I say!
I am so glad to share with all of you!

Sabrina - that's wonderful news, so pleased to hear it. I have never been on bed rest, just as well with a 7 mth old and to be honest I don't see any difference with my level of bleeding and activity level so I wouldn't worry (obviously you aren't) Thanks for your kind words re London, it's my home town (now live just outside) and I normally travel to work via one of the tube stations bombed. I am luckily on my maternity leave from work so do not have to that journey and I count myself lucky.
Take care of yourself.

I'm now 18 weeks. I've had SH bleeding 4 times (beteen 8 weeks and 15 weeks) twice extreamly bad with heavy cramping and long term spotting and twice light bleeding and spotting. (8 ultrasounds so far) It has been scary to say the least, and there doesn't seem to be much information about it. The scarest part being that 2 doctors told me I am likely to have preterm labor. It's so frusterating to know that my baby girl is healthy and so is my placenta, but my uterus is such a touble maker. I've had 2 prior misscarages this is the first time I've got this far. I am extreamly hopeful.

Angel-Congrats on making it this far! You go girl! I was also told I would be at risk for preterm labor but came to the place of....all they can do is make educated guesses. They can't know the future for sure. Many women on this site have stopped bleeding the further they got and even went on to carry a baby full term. I have chosen to be thankful today and I do feel great even though I look like I have a watermelon in my shirt. Why worry about tomorrow, it has enough trouble of it's own. Focus on your baby girl, staying healthy and choosing names(that's always fun). Whats your EDD?
We are only a week apart.

Thanks Kathryn, Dana and Sabrina for your kind messages re London. Kathryn - I'm jealous, I wish I was on maternity leave too! Work sent me home in a taxi on Thursday and then I worked from home on Friday. Sabrina -Congrats on your good news. Is that your 6th boy now? Best wishes to all.

I JUST GOT OUT OF THE ER TODAY-7 WEEKS PREGNANT AND NOW DIAGNOSED WITH SUBCHORIONIC HEMATOMA. THIS IS VERY FRIGHTENING TO ME. I AM 20 YRS OLD WITH A 22 MONTH OLD AT HOME. I TOO HAVE BEEN PUT ON BED REST, NO LIFTING, ETC.. MY DOC SAID IT IS COMMON, BUT THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES IN PREGNANCY. I WANT YOU ALL TO KNOW THAT MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU ALL AND LET US ALL HOPE THAT GOD'S WILL BE DONE. BESIDES THE HEALTH CARE PROS, GOD IS ULTIMATELY IN CONTROL. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT I EXPECTED AS I REALLY HAD FEW PROBLEMS WITH THE 1ST PREGNANCY. I GUESS I WILL BE CONSIDERED HIGH RISK NOW TOO. BEST TO ALL.

Hi, I am in New Zealand and was just diagnosed with this yesterday. I am so grateful to have found this site. I have had brown spotting for the last 2 weeks and then 2 nights ago woke up to find bright red blood on my pyjama pants. We rushed to the ER and they said that it was possible I could be miscarrying but were not able to give me a scan until yesterday. The baby is still alive but I am so terrified. This is my first pregnancy after ivf/icsi and needless to say this baby means the world to us. My doctor said that there is no evidence that bed rest helps at all so just to take it easy. I am still bleeding but not enough to fill a pad a day or anything like that, but it is light red. Anyone else have a similar chain of events?

I am actually having my 5th boy. I do have one daughter/princess. She is my 4th. I was going for #5 to be a little sister for her. That didn't work! My oldest two are really close together then 3 years later I had #3 who at 10lbs 14 1/2ozs we lovingly refer to as Big Ben. My girl came along in another 3 years. I guess I could have stopped there but our 5th little peanut is such a joy I can't even imagine life with out him. He's a ham and has the greatrest expressions. He's 19 months and his birthday is actually three days after my due date. They may share a birthday and will be exactly two years apart. As long as everything goes well with this SCH then I plan to have my tubal right after baby is born. I love being pregnant and raising babies so the decision to "get fixed" has been very hard. With this complication it seems to be time for me. I am not getting any younger and the little ones seem to have more energy probably because I have less! Wow! Theres all that...any way I love being a mom and i love connecting with other moms.

Shaz - sorry you are having to go through this. I am currently 16+2 and have battled with this since week 7. I haven't been on any form of rest as I have a 7 mth old baby to care for and my husband is at work all day. I haven't been doing the vac_mning though. I haven't noticed any change in my bleeding whatever level my acitivity is at.
I hope it works out for you but please do not worry about not bed resting. Try to drink lots of water though - I have heard it helps.

Hi Shaz - I hope you're bleeding is getting better. I did IVF/ICSI too in London (UK) due to male infertility and its our first baby after 3 years of trying but thankfully only 1 IVF/ICSI. How many weeks are you? I started bleeding at week 6 and bled 10 times until week 14. My bleeding was on and off and varied from just an hour to a few days each time. I had red bleeding for 2 days at week 12 - when I got up at night I had red blood over my PJs and down my legs. I was diagnosed with a clot in the uterus at 8 weeks, which grew to 2 inches at 9 weeks but has been shrinking since and has now gone. I'm now 23 weeks and the baby is fine. I really hope everything will be OK for you. Do they know what is causing your bleeding? Take care. Best wishes. Justine.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the clot to pa__s once it starts to "come out"--for lack of a better phrase. It just started as brown spotting and now--three times it has turned more liquid--like coming out into the toilet--still brown--once it was a little "rusty" colored. I mean, how big can this thing be!!!!!!
the good thing is there are just so many good results with this condition!!!

Kathryn & Justine: Thanks so much for your replies! I am 10 weeks 3 days and like Kathryn I started bleeding at 7 weeks which continued to be brown until the big scare. That was 2 days ago and I am still spotting pinkish/red but not enough to fill a pad. I find there is about a teaspoon full to come out when I wake in the morning and yesterday it was off and on during the day but hardly anything. Kathryn it must be so hard for you with a seven month old and you have no choice but to carry on doing what you have to, I really feel for you:-(
And, you are right I have been drinking a lot of water and I'm sure this is helping, thanks to you.
Justine as I said I'm 10 wks 3days and no they have said that the haematoma is causing the bleeding but nothing else, just that we will have to wait and see. I am feeling a lot better than I was at first though, have told myself that everything happens for a reason and we will be fine and am visualising this thing shrinking!! They are keeping an eye on me now, I have another scan next week to see how things are going, my 3rd in 3 weeks!!
This is a terribly scary time - thanks so much both of you for giving me hope, I'm keeping my chin up!! ((hugs))

Hi,
I didn't see my consultant but I saw his registrar who was just as nice and rea__suring. She said my earlier prognosis of 50/50 is no longer so and although she obviously can't give any guarantees and I am high risk, my chances are still pretty good. They are concerned by the size of my hematoma and she is getting me scanned every 4 weeks to check on the growth of the baby as apparently these SCH's threaten the growth of baby as mine appears to be getting larger not smaller. I am also at risk of pre-term delivery because of it but you never know I may get scanned again and the SCH has shrunk (I wish, I wish, I wish) So, I am getting scanned again at 20 wks, 23 wks (routine), 28 wks, 32 wks, 36 wks and I didn't even request it! I am not in the clear but that's my update.
Hope all you girls are okay.
Kathryn x
