Subchorionic Hematoma

Can i join in? I was also diagnosed with this but unfortunately miscarried when i was 6w5d last July 3. The hematoma was much bigger than the sac thats why i pa__sed it all and have a d & c to clean it up. We're ttc again but scared that the hematoma might come back. Is there any possibility to recurr a hematoma when you had a history on it?

Sha - I have seen on a website somewhere that it is just bad luck getting a hematoma and you are at no more risk than the next person in getting one next time. Hope that puts your mind at rest. Kathryn x

Hello Donna, I'm here too! I am currently 19+2 and counting! Got another ultrasound a week today which is going to be a growth scan to see if the hematoma has affected the growth of baby. I think it will be fine though as I last had a scan at 14 weeks and baby was measuring fine. I have also gone back to normal with activity etc and I can't tell you how good it feels to be out of the house and doing normal things walking around. There has been a few occasions I think that I may have overdone things but then it hasn't brought any bleeding on so it seems fine. In fact, we just had two days away in Brighton (English seaside resort) and we did soooo much walking. You know where you do it and don't realise but I seem fine. I haven't bled for 5 weeks now either which is pretty remarkable considering the consistency and quant_ty of my bleeds from week 7 to week 14. I had 2 hematoma's at one point and at my last scan after a bleed in week 14 I was down to one so 'bled' one out def. I was waiting for the other one to 'bleed out' but it seems it may have been reabsorbed as I am no form of rest with an active 8 mth old baby and I like to shop! We shall see. Don't want to get too confident or speak too soon but I guess all will be revealed a week today. I am looking forward to it and also dreading it if that makes sense. Sorry, I have gone on and on haven't I! Donna I really understand your feelings in not even being too excited at pa__sing the 12 week mark but I remember at week 14 my consultant said to me that even though we have hematoma's our chances of miscarriage due to them still do dramatically decrease after 12 weeks so you have odds on your side for sure. Take care and I'll let you know how I get on now more exciting things are happening and please stay in touch too. Kathryn x

Sue - wow congratulations on expecting twins, how wonderful for you. I have read somewhere that hematoma's are more common in multiple pregnancies so you never know...... Regarding your search for more websites I found the following two to be helpful also: http://p211.ezboard.com/fmommyguidehighriskpregnancy.showMessageRange?topicID=82.topic&start=161&stop=180 and: http://www.angelfire.com/home/joeynrobin/subchorionic.hematoma.html Just copy and paste them. Yes, yesterday I was diagnosed with this. I have recently lost a baby so an early ultrasound was performed to ensure viability of this baby. Two small subchorionic hematomas were located. I have had no bleeding (yet) but still I live in fear that things will go wrong. I should be happy with the beautiful children that I have, but have always wanted one more. Good luck everyone

Kara, I also started off with two - just one left now as far as I know (another scan next week should confirm this) Don't think two means tou are at any higher risk by the way. That's what I told myself anyway! Good luck and keep us all updated. Kathryn x 19+4

Hi Kathryn/Shaz, Shaz - I am so happy that you hear the babys heartbeat and everything looked good. Those RE appointments do help ease the 'suffering' of not knowing what's happening. Kathryn - I am sure your baby is fine especially since everything was on track at 14 weeks. I am really happy to hear that you are getting out now. It must have been really hard for you. Just don't push yourself ok? I have heard of Brighton, I have never been there. I was in blackpool when I was visiting my cousins years ago in Manchester (Old Trafford). I was really happy to hear that gestation matters. It will be 12 weeks for me on Monday. I can now breath a little easier. Here's my update: I was freaking out when I got to the peri's office. I was so scared that something happened to the baby I almost started crying out of fear in the office. Still no spotting though (8 days straight). We went through the drill - all the questions ect (this was after all my first appt. with the peri). They then took my husband and I into a room and did the ultrasound. I cried on the spot as soon as I saw the baby and then it moved!!! Such joy! Then all of a sudden a loud "thud" "thud" "thud" - going around 165 bpms! More joy. More tears. The next best thing???? Looks like the hematoma is gone! I kept asking the peri - "are you sure" he kept saying yes. I am so thrilled I can't tell you. I did find out that my placenta goes from the front to the back of the uterus on the left side. The peri warned me that I might not really feel the baby until around 22 weeks. It's a good thing he told me this cuz it was through seized movement that I knew my daughter had died at 30 weeks. I told him about my clotting concerns ( the autopsy report showed quite a few clots on my placenta with my daughter) and I can't help but wonder if a blood clot got in the cord and cut the oxygen off to her). He agreed that there is no harm in taking the 81 mg aspirin up until 35 weeks or if I start to bleed again. Any ladies out there on aspirin? My next appt is August 30th and my 18 week scan is Sept 21st. One milestone at a time right ladies? Question for you both: Ever since I first started bleeding I have been wearing "mongo" pads. It has stopped now for 9 days but I am scared to not wear the pads even though I have been told that the hematoma has gone. What do you ladies do? Do you still wear pads?

Shaz - August 5

Hi Donna, am soooo happy you heard your baby's heart beat and saw him/her move - the most beautiful sight every, right? And also that the hematoma is gone - yahooooooo!!! Well, to answer your question I have had no bleeding for over a week now but yes, I am still wearing a pad every single day as I am scared I will spot again - am very paranoid. But maybe in a couple of days I will stop wearing one - I finally feel like a pregnant woman with no af!!!! Take care & talk soon, Shaz

Kathryn - August 6

Donna - that's wonderful news for you. I really hope I can report back the same when I go for my 20 week ultrasound on Wednesday. In answer to your question, no I don't wear pads and don't unless I start to bleed. didn't want to wear them 'just in case' as it wouldn't feel like a normal pregnancy. Then again i was indoors a lot before as I have a baby to look after and I must admit when I started to get back to normal and being out and about I did start to think what I would do if I bled in the middle of the shopping centre etc but it didn't happen luckily. You must feel so happy that your peri has said the hematoma has gone. I can't wait for that news. I have heard somewhere online that when you get to 20 wks often these SCH's tend to disappear anyway due to the size of baby? Anyone else heard this? I hope so! Will report with any news as and when anything happens. Thanks all for thinking of me and we'll all keep in touch. Another question though, I was also told that I am at risk of preterm labour due to SCH - anyone else been told this? Also the reason I am going to have an ultrasound every 4 wks for the rest of my pregnancy is due to the fact that the SCH can cause growth restrictions - anyone else been told that? That's all for now. Chat soon girls, Kathryn x 19+5 and counting!

Hey Donna, One more thing, like you I also have an anterior placenta and did do in my first pregnancy. I just started feeling baby move this week (remember it's my 2nd) but with my first and the anterior placenta it was around 21 weeks. It was like with my first I only started feeling the big kicks and anything softer than that didn't feel a thing. I remember going for an ultrasound at 20 weeks with my first and the obstetrician was saying 'surely you can feel that, your baby is kicking you' and I couldn't feel a thing! Kathryn x 19+5

Hey there--Just an update...I am now 23 weeks and 2 days. I went to my peri and my bleed is half the size it was 7 weeks ago. I have not spotted anything for 5 weeks now. Baby is moving all the time and growing right on target. They are going to start watching me real close at 32 weeks because they are still concerned about premature labor. So far so good.....Best wishes for everyone else.

Kathryn - August 7

Sabrina - so pleased you are doing okay and baby is growing on target. I am in same situation as you, 20 weeks now and they are concerned for premature labour but one step at a time eh. Take care of yourself and good luck. I am back to normal activity wise - are you? Kathryn x

Sabrina - August 8

Kathryn- I am back to all the normal activities, mom of 5 and all....It feels really good to be on the other side a little bit. My bleed is still there but I don't live in fear every moment like I did when I was 9 weeks and they told me about my SCH for the first time. Having time pa__s really does help. I have been able to see baby on scans and that has been helpful to know that he is doing well. We are having fun doing the nursery and doing the name debate. All our other kids are really excited about a new baby brother. Are you due in Dec. also?

Kathryn - August 8

Sabrina, Yes I am due in Dec also (26th) so happy halfway to me today! Like you I am not living in fear of it all the time. I am back to normal and it feels so good. i was never on bed rest anyway even with heavy bleeds every week, just tried to take it easy (as much as you can with an 8 mth old baby to look after!) She weighs a ton and as she can't crawl or anything yet I carry her round all day and it doesn't seem to have made any difference - in fact I haven't bled for 5 weeks now which is great. I have an ultrasound Weds to see what's going on. Haven't had one for 6 weeks so will be interesting to see what the hematoma is doing. Take care and stay in touch. Kathryn x 20 weeks today!

Sue - August 8

Hi everyone. I go back for another ultrasound this wk- I'm 9wks. I have been bleeding brown and it has been slowly getting better, however, this morning red bleeding again. I'm so scared. This is very nerve racking especially for my husband because I get so upset about the bleeding all the time. I try to stay calm and every time I think I'm doing better, I start bleeding again. I've been taking it easy as much as possible but I'm still working and taking care of my 2 yr old. I'm so worried about this week and my next ultrasound. Plz keep me in your prayers. Sue

Mindy - August 8

I'm 9 wks along and also have a subchorionic hematoma which has been making me bleed every weekend since 5 wks. I go see my ob tonight and I'm scared. The last two ultrasounds which were at 6 wks and 7 wks showed a strong heartbeat and great growth but I am so scared that they are going to tell me that I lost this little blessing. This is my 4th pregnancy and the other 3 were so easy with no spotting and bleeding. Please keep me in your prayers also and I'll do the same for you. God Bless!!
