Subchorionic Hematoma

I was pregnant with my second child and on Thanksgiving Day I started bleeding really bad. I had no idea what was going on. I went to the hospital and they said I had a threatened miscarrage. They put me on bed rest and I was okay for a while. A couple of months later I took my son to get his shots and I started feeling real light headed and took of to the nurses station and a had started to bleed again. They said that they had never seen anything like this before. They kept me in hospital for a total of 24 hrs. I came home and one day went by and I woke up at about midnight and went to the restroom I got back on the chouch and I started feeling wierd again I stood up and felt a gush! I thought my water had broke and I was only 23weeks and 6 days. I got to the bathroom and it was all blood. My husband had to call for an ambulance cause I had pasted out and started going into convultions. The paramedics couldn't even get an IV in me cause I had lost so much blood. Still they say they know nothing about what was causing this to happen. Then a week after that I went into labor, I called the on call Dr. and waited for one hour and the Dr. never called me, so I called them back they said that they paged the wrong pager. I think that is B.S.. They told me to get to the hospital and we did. The Dr. did an exam on me when she should have just gave my meds to stop my labor! 30 seconds after she did the exam my water broke. I lost my son! Now I have found out that it was very common and that they could have gave me progestrone.

It's so nice to know there are other people going through this. I went to the ER on Tues night after i started bleeding at work, I am 9 weeks. after 4 hours of waiting i was seen and had an ultrasound, external then internal and a catheter to fill my bladder up on top of that! 2 hours later the Dr said i had a small tear on the gestational sac which was pulling away from the uterine wall. He said it was very small, didn't tell me the size though. I had my first OB appt. on this coming Monday so he said to bed rest the rest of the week and see my Dr Monday. He really didnt tell me much except that it could either heal on it's own or it could tear more in which case it would cut off the blood supply to the baby and i could miscarry. After reading the paperwork over and over I noticed the term "subchorionic bleed". After doing hours of research on the internet I typed the medical term in and found more information. I was so confused about what was going on and what to expect. But after finding this website and reading all the postings from other women who are going through the same thins I feel so much better. At least I can have some hope now. I think It's important for other women to connect and share their stories. The bleeding has slowed alot, it was light at first, like a light period and the next day hardly anything. After 4 days it is still just brownish like old blood that i heard other women mention here. At least I can know that it is common to bleed on and off so i don't freak out if it does happen. I would give my left leg not to go back to that ER! I'm hoping everything will be fine on Monday, don't know if they will keep me on bedrest or not, but i have to say I do feel better and more relaxed about it when i lay down. They did tell me the baby had a strong heartbeat also which is a good thing, and I am also nauseated 24/7 which I hear is a sign of a healthy pregnancy. I wish everyone luck, I know we can get through this! If everyone could keep us all updated that would be great! I saw alot of women who bled through most of their pregnancy so if this is common let us know. The more help we can get and support the better we will all feel. Hang in there!

I'm so glad to find a place everyone understands. Last Wednesday I had a huge gush of blood come out suddenly. I panicked and got in to the OB. She told me that I had lost a lot of blood and that I only had a 50/50 chance of carrying the baby. On Friday she said it looked better and I had a better chance. I'm so worried that I won't make it. The waiting kills me. I'm about 9 weeks and 1 day now. I wasn't told the size of my hematoma. Only that it was on the top section.

I am really getting frustrated. I am 10 weeks now and had my first OB appt yesterday finally after waiting a month! The ER was suposed to give my paperwork to the Dr. so they would be prepared when I came in. They didn't know anything about it and all they did was give me a pee test to determine that I was pregnant! Which I already knew of course when i made the appt a month ago, let alone the ultrasound they did in the ER showed a baby with a heartbeat. The Dr didnt tell me anything about my condition or ease my concerns at all, just said i would have to make it to the 13 or 14 week mark to be out of the danger zone. He said to keep my fingers crossed and stay at home, after I had to ask repeatedly what Im suposed to do. They scheduled me in two weeks then called today because they scheduled wrong and put it further back another 10 days. No ultrasound no tests or anything. So now I have to wait almost another month to even find out whats going on. This just doesn't seem right. My first child which was 10 years ago I had an ultrasound and blood work right away and I was not at risk for anything. Now I have this complication and they wont even do anything till I'm 13 or 14 weeks? I'm thinking I might need to changed my OB/Gyn!

Update, i had subchorionic bleed at 5 weeks then at 6 weeks and at 8 1/2 weeks. the one at 5 weeks was a big flood complete with clots, no warning or cramps with any bleeds. had 12 week u/s today, all is well, bleed has disappeared and baby is fine and growing well. I was not told to have bed rest and wouldn't have done it anyway, i think the bleeding is worse when you are walking around because of gravity and i personally think better out than in (though that is just my opinion). Anyway, just wanted to know that worrying as it was (and there was a lot of blood the first time) all has turned out well. take care to all.

Kat, good to hear everything is fine. Finally talked to my Dr's nurse today to try and get some answers. Said they would be doing an ultrasound on March 6, 3 days earlier than my original appt. Not much sooner as I had hoped but better than not knowing anything! Said also to stay resting and drink 64 oz. of water everyday. She told me anything can happen between 1 and 10 weeks and that the pregnancy isn't considered viable until 12 weeks. I should be 13 weeks when they do the ultrasound. Also told me if the bleed is still there they will probably send me to a specialist, Perinatologist. I will keep hoping and praying!

Hi Ladies, Just to let all of you know, I had a subchorionic hematoma my first pregnancy starting from 7 wks on. I had light brown spotting for the first three months on and off, and then around 18 wks, I had one episode of red blood, although a small amount. It was all very scary, but fortunately we made it through and we had a beautiful baby boy in the end. Now we are pregnant for a second time and I have ANOTHER subchorionic hematoma. Same size and everything! I am nervous, but I keep reminding myself that all was well last time. Hang in there. It's scary because nobody seems to have a lot of information on this issue, and most of the stuff I found on the internet was terrifying! It's good to know my husband and I are not alone. Good luck to you all!

I am 9 weeks pregnant and I have been diagnosed with this subchorionic Hematoma. It first happened when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I went to the hospital for spotting and they found it but never told me. Then 2 weeks later when I was 8 weeks I went back to the hospital for excessive bright red bleeding and that is when they told me I have the hematoma. I have done some reading on it and talked to my dr. and he has rea__sured me that many many women get these and that everything will go away as you get further along. He has put me on bed rest, going on 9 days now and he told me to stay on bed rest til the bleeding stops for at least 24-72 hours. It did stop for 24 hours, but then started again. Just take it easy and don't do anything extra. Dr. told me no lifting over 10 lbs along with the bed rest.

Hi ladies, I am 15 weeks today and I am currently on bed rest (for the last two weeks). I was given instructions to stay in bed for 3 weeks. I am not sure of the long term effects of bed rest, but I do know that since I have been in bed, the bleeding has subsided. It is hard to stay in bed, so I read my bible, grade papers for my 8th grade reading cla__s, and watch movies. I don't know if going back to work is a good idea, especially with the pressure of FCAT coming up. I am a very emotional person and get very involved with my student's academic progress. What has your doctor's said about the role that stress plays in the bleeding and the placenta staying attached to the uterine wall? I have read most of your submissions and I can relate. Does it get better after going back to work? I am a Christian and knows that the Lord's will will prevail, however, we have free-will to decide. What would you suggest?

Yes. When I was 13 weeks I went to the er for bleeding that filled 2 pads... it was bright red... they did an u/s and it showing that the baby was fine.... but at 15 weeks I wake up in the morning to find that I am bleeding again.... it is all dark brown..(old blood). but I have had no cramping or anything like that.

Vicky, I would do what your heart and mind tell you to. Stress isn't good for us or the baby. If staying at home makes you feel more confident about your pregnancy then listen to your heart. Its always better to be safe than sorry! I have been on bedrest for 2 weeks and although its hard to stay at home and feel useless I'm more at ease that I can lay down if I feel like I'm doing too much. I don't have that luxury at work, can't even sit down for more than 30 seconds. And it's real hard to keep a smile on your face to other people when your worried about your child. My advice is do what your comfortable with. I don't stay in bed by any means but I do watch movies and rest in between things like doing dishes, feeding the dogs etc., nothing strenuous. It feels good to try and get a few things done around the house. I found if I lay down all day I get really bad headaches.

Hi; and let me start by saying how thankful I am that I have found this site! My name is Christina and I was diagnosed with a Sub Chronic Hemorrhage on Sunday the 12th and I have been on strict bed rest since. They measured the SCH at 2.5 cm and saw the baby’s heartbeat. I am eight weeks pregnant and I did not start bleeding until Saturday the 18th and it was only a little brown blood. I saw my OB on Tuesday the 21st and he gave us no comfort or good news. He only said that brown blood means old blood and we have to just wait and see if this pregnancy takes. I have my second ultrasound tomorrow morning and I am scared to death to say the least. I never thought that when I see my baby for the first time that it will be under these terms. I called my doctor this morning because I woke up feeling a little wet so I went to the bathroom and found a lot of brown blood and a little red blood. After I used the restroom I saw three blood clots in the toilet the size of grapes and they were a dark black red. I was hoping my doctor would want to see me today but he only said to stay in bed, think positive and we will see how things look on the ultrasound in the morning. I am trying to think positive and stay upbeat but it is so hard sometimes. My husband and I were trying to have a baby for the past two years and had a miscarriage a year ago {I was two weeks pregnant} our OB final put me on fertility drugs to help which it did but now we are having to deal with this. Have any of you pa__sed blood clots and what dose it mean when this happens? I would appreciate any advice you may have and I will keep all of you in my thoughts. Take care!

Hi everyone. I am 10 weeks pregnant and I have a subchrionic hematoma and I was at my dr.s office today and he has rea__sured me that everything is going to be just fine. We had an ultrasound and heard the heartbeat and saw the baby. He is actually measuring me at 11 wks and 4 days whatever that means. I have been on bed rest for 2 weeks and bleeding brown (old ) blood for 2 weeks. So girls don't give up hope just keep a positive att_tude and everything will be just fine. This is just a hump in the road to motherhood and it will all be worth it when you hold your baby for the first time. Just don't give up!! Everything will be just fine.

You will be fine , my prayer are with you .

Kaza - February 28

Yes, I have. I had a dating scan done last week & was told that I had twin sacs, but only a singular fetus had grown & that behind the placenta there is a subchorionic hematoma. This will be my sixth baby & apart from having severe morning sickness, I have not experienced any problems before, so this is pretty scary.
