I had a previous drug problem with opiates before I was pregnant. I put myself in rehab and have been clean for 9 mos. I do not want to get prescribed pain meds after giving birth but I am so scared of the pain. I don't want to be hurting that bad. Is there any reassurance that I will get through it. I already told my dr. about my past problem and that I do not even want to be offered meds to leave with (epidural while in labor YES). I'm sure that I can do it I am just worried.

I was not even offered drugs for the after pain, just a higher dose of Ibuprofin (sp) and that was only while I was in the hospital. I was actually hurting more after I got home than when I was in the middle of labor. I almost pa__sed out from the pain one day and the docs just said get extra-strength pain reliever. Hope all goes well with you and congrats on being clean.

That is what I am scared of. Everyone says the pain when you are healing is so much worse than labor. I am a sissy when it comes to stuff like that too. Did the extra strength pain releiver do anything when you took it?

after both of my girls - v____al, i was offered 800 mg motrin - i asked for 400 mg instead ( i was nursing & wanted as little medicine as possible). I had 0ver 30 st_tches w/ baby 1, and just under 20 w/ baby 2. I took the meds once with baby 1 and took one pill in the hospital this time, and one the night i got released. these pills are not any stronger than 2 extra strength tylenol. all i can recommend is to take it as easy as possible. walking around is good, but don't over do it by staying on your feet too much.

I didnt know about after pain, and I honestly dont have any. Its uncomfortable to sit sometimes, and you can cramp or have some back and hip pain, but as long as you rest as much as possible you should be ok. They told me just to take motrin or tylenol, not even advil yet, so hopefully youll be just fine as well.

Afterwards it was mostly discomfort... nothing like labor! I don't use meds much, so a low dose (200mg) Motrin once a day was adequate for me. What helped the most was sitting on ice packs the first day or so. You can ask the nurse for them.

thank you for your replies. I am sure I will be able to get through. Millions of other women have. I am just being scared and paranoid I think (which I'm sure is normal).
