Alright well i just had my baby almost 3 weeks ago (he was born july 26th)...and i was just curious on why the doctor's tell you to wait 6 weeks to have s_xual intercourse..? is there a greater risk of becomming pregnant again or is it just because your body has to recover or both?.. please respond! thanks!

you are more prone to infection which is why they also say no baths, swiming, tampons, etc.

Hey lawlady how are you? (remember talking to me on the labor questions page?)...anyways well what type of infections?....see me and my hubby have had s_x twice already and im just a little worried about it....and im kinda embarra__sed to admit to the doctor that i have....anyways hows the baby? mine is doing great...he is getting big quick! he weighed 6 lbs. 9 oz at birth and went down to 5 lbs. 15 oz leaving the hospital and when he went for his 4 days old checkup he was 6 lbs. 4 oz. and he just went a couple of days ago for his 2 week checkup and he weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. he gained a pound and 10 oz in a week in a half...lol crazyyy hope all is well

Your cervix is still open inside so you have a large risk of getting an infection in your uterus. This can be very painful and dangerous. Also, your risk of becoming pregnant is very high now because your uterus is all cleaned out and the cervix is open.

oh wow so there is a risk of becoming pregnant again (oh god dont need that lol)...so i guess once the 6 weeks is up your cervix closes?.....so how do you get an infection in there? does it come from his ejactulation or no?...just curious thanks so much!

My ob saw me at 3 wks and said that as long as it didn't hurt we could resume our s_x life. We have s_x at least once a day and sometimes more so he knew we had an active s_x life. I had a v____al birth and s_x at 3 wks was fine for me, it didn't hurt at all and my cervix was closed.

hey! MommieX! how are you doing? I see from your reply to Lawlady that your baby is growing well... mine is already up to 11 lbs!!! Can you believe it? He was 8.5 at birth and went down to 8. He turned 4 weeks yesterday... hard to believe. Anyways, as for the s_x... yeah, it's due to risk of infection. And for me where I had a section, they want you to give yourself time to heal. Well my hubby and I tried monday night and OMG it hurt soo bad.. I cant believe you guys have done it twice already... your husband must be a lot happier than mine is right now! anyways, we tried again last night with LOTS of lube, and it was a bit better but it still hurt. Not sure if I want to keep trying now or not. It's frustrating and discouraging. Its hard to feel attractive or even "womanly" when you've got a nice flabby belly, that ugly old brown line running up your belly, heavy, sagging, leaking b___bs, and to top it off, can't even have s_x with your husband.

hey mshanson! ..aww well thats good to hear! im glad your little one is doing well! ....yeah my little one eats all the time! if he could stay attached to my b___st he would...all day and all night...he would be the happiest little camper lol...yeah with the whole s_x thing i mean it hurt afterwards....(sorry tmi lol)...yeah i know exactly how you feel! i hate this baby gut i have...and well i never got stretch marks the 2nd time but the 1st time i had them BAD so now my belly is all wrinkly and gross! ugh! but i guess as long as the hubby finds me attractive then oh wells! lol...so anything new with you?

not too much new other than trying to adjust to motherhood, which really i dont find all that hard. i LOVE being a mom. the hardest thing for me is trying to keep up with housework. i feel guilty if I spend away from Thomas if he's awake instead of playing with him, but I gotta get stuff done sometime! i got tonnes of stretch marks with him, all over my b___sts, b___t and thighs, but thankfully none on my stomach. but i still have that dark line and man you should see my belly b___ton... it's messed up! all stretched, wrinkly and dark dark brown now. WEIRD!

sorry haven't responded, just don't have much time between new son and 6yr old dd whos camp has finished......to add to it we're getting a puppy on friday, I must be a glutton for punishment. Anyway, whenever you put a foreign body into your body your introducing bacteria which can cause infection. Hi mshanson, glad to hear thiings are good. mommie I have to say I give much credit to those of you who can think about s_x, my ds is 3 weeks and I am too tired to even look at my husband kindly.

mshanson, everyone has always told me "the dishes, laundry and vacuuming will keep, but your children will grow and change everyday, spend time with them, you can get to the house later". It's good advice. I have finally let myself take it. My house may not be perfect, but thats not what my kids will remember in 30 years. They'll remember that mom was always there for them and made time for them.
