I had my six weeks check-up a couple of weeks ago. Since I'm br___t-feeding, my dr gave me the choice between the minipill or the depo shot.. since they are the only two methods of birth control that are safe for br___tfeeding. I chose the shot since I was on the pill when I got pregnant in the first place and I don't want to chance it. About a week after getting my first shot, I started bleeding and figured it was probably just my period returning (which seemed weird b/c I'm br___t feeding AND on the shot... but whatever) well... it's more than a week later and I'm STILL bleeding! Heavy, too. It hasn't really lightened up at all. A friend told me that she had heard that on the shot, you either don't get your period the entire time... or you're ON your period the entire time. Is this true?? Am I really going to be on my period for a whole year? HELP!!!!!

Your doctor told you ONLY the Depo or Mini pill was safe for b___stfeeding moms? that's not true at all. IUDs are also a safe alternative and have less hormones.. the Paragaurd IUD is hormone free. I had the Mirena for 3 years and didn't have a period the entire time.
I was on the Depo Provera for a short time a few years ago, I concieved my son while on that shot.. I also gained 20lbs, felt like I had permanant PMS and bled for 15 days out of the month almost every month and it was very heavy. I personally wouldn't recommend it to anyone but what you are experiencing sounds pretty typical of the shot to me.

I guess you could say my Dr. is a little "old fashioned" then. Depo or the mini pill are the only progestin only forms of birth control he offered to me. My mom had been on the depo shot previously and recommended it to me. I guess different things work for different people. At any rate, I guess I'll wait a few more days and call if I'm still bleeding just to make sure it's normal. Thanks alot!

i had the same problem.. the first time i got my period it was 2 weeks long with the depo shot.. but the next month was different.. and now its regular but i still get my period.. but i remember the first one after the shot was HORRIBLE so i would just wait it out and see what happens next month!

Thanks, gucci!! It's good to know I'm not alone! I talked to my Dr.'s office today and they said it's normal with the first shot to bleed anywhere up to NINETY DAYS!!! Lord, help me! lol... But they did say that after that it usually tapers off and things return to normal.. so I think I'm going to stick it out with the shot.
