Hey
the first day of my last period was Jan 12th and I had an early ultrasound on March 11th and it showed i was somewhere between 7wks 2 days and 7wks 4 days..i thought all i would do is count back and find the day i concieved the baby..which would mean i would have concieved on Jan 18-20th ...but i went to the doctor this week and they asked me the dates of the ultrasound and my last period..then they used the pregnancy wheel and they said i didn't actually concieve until Jan 30th-Feb1st..with a due date of oct 31st..they also added a week on the end cuz it's my first pregnancy...but when they did it on the wheel..it said my last period would have been around the 18th of january which isn't right...so does the date of your last period matter once you get an ultrasound? or do they just use it as a guide until u have an ultrasound? Which way is right?

When doctors date your pregnancy they date it from the first day of your last menstrual period, NOT from conception. That is because women ovulate at different points and it is hard to pinpoint that so they just go by date of last period. If you want to know when you conceived you need to know when you ovulated which is roughly about 2 weeks before your period starts. So if you have a standard 28 day cycle it is 2 weeks after the first day of your last period. (About mid cycle).

Yes okay i get how they date that..but i had my ultrasound already and they told me when i ovulated..so i know..the only thing is it wasn't 2 weeks after my period..it was 3..i ovulated on the 21st day of my cycle..so i basically i was just wondering how that works out..because when they showed me the pregnancy wheel and all the dates..it showed my last period was about a week ahead of when it actually was..which confused me..so i was wondering if your last period date matters once you know when u ovualted..

mjm i wouldn't worry about it too much. Doctors can not pinpoint the exact date. So basically if u r 7 weeks 3 days count back 5 weeks ago and thats about when you got preggers. U/S early is the most accurate for calculating a due date. So go by u/s but still deduct the two weeks.
