The first day of my last period was 10th february 2004. I have just had a scan and was told that I am only 5 weeks pregnant,I think I am 8 or 9 weeks.My pregnancy test was positive 4 weeks ago.

I was just the same when I had my scan it put me that I became pregnant the day I took the test. I then had another scan that put me a further 2 weeks on and then another that put me another 5 days on I would go with your dates for know.

It's easy really. Your doctor treats your pregnancy as having started from the 1st day of your last period. BUT ovulation would have happened about 2 weeks after that. Even though you get two different time-lines the due date works the same... ie. 40weeks (from last p) and 38 weeks (from ovulation). Think of the baby as a fortnight younger than the pregnancy itself (a bit weird, but true).

I THINK THAT YOUR PREGNANCY MAY HAVE DETECTED IT AT AN EARLY STAGE BUT YOUR SCAN SHOULD BE CORRECT.
