Lovenox And Cost

Hi ladies, I am wondering if any of you have been on Lovenox or Heparin? I am a recurrent miscarriage pt. After 3 identical consectutive mc's at 8.5 weeks they found I have MTHFR and Lupus Anticoagulant. So my 4th pg I tried Heparin & baby asprin (last summer) it didn't work unfortunately but that pregnancy ended much earlier and never developed properly, so it was definitely a "random chromosonal miscarriage"-according to the doctor. We got pregnant again in January, this time I made it to 9 weeks and 2 days, but again the hb stopped. I then go on to find out that I was taking the contaminated Heparin from China!! This baby was tested for chromosonal abnormalities and came back a normal baby girl. They also checked my DNA to make sure it was the babies not mine. We now don't know for sure why that pregnancy ended?? So now I am going to try a 6th time. Since the big problem with heparin has come about I now will be on Lovenox. My Dr. says he is treating me aggressively, with 2 shots a day at 40 mg's along with the baby asprin. One of my biggest questions is where do you buy the Lovenox?? My insurance pays 50% on my prescriptions. The Lovenox is $2200.00 a month for my dose, I was shocked. Heparin was maybe $90 a month. I want to know if anybody has ordered it from Canada??? I have found pharmacy's with HUGE savings, more than 50%...........I don't know what to do? I have to start my shots next week so I must order right away. My Dr's office said that they couldn't say one way or another if it would be safe since it wouldn't be FDA approved. I just financially don't know what we are going to do with an $1100.00 a month new bill : ( Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you, stephanie

Stephanie, I wish I could help more...I'm not sure about getting it from Canada, etc. Lovenox is expensive as I did it this pregnancy but I was only on one 40mg shot per day so after my insurance paid I had to pay about $220 per month (my insurance pays like 80%). I cried the first time I shelled out that much so I can imagine how you feel...it is worth it though as it may mean the difference between having a baby and not.

Lovenox is horribly expensive. Definitely look into the Canadian pharmacies just stay away from other countries like Mexico and India. I've ordered other scripts from the internet and have never had a problem but I think Canada is the safest. You may also want to check and see if your inusrance has a mail order pharmacy, sometimes they are cheaper. Also look at cheaper pharmacies like Walmart and Sam's Club. Lovenox does have great results, its a relatively new therapy but well studied. Also ask your doc about Prednisone it is often used when antibodies are present.

Thanks Stefkay and Jessica for the info. I did send out a ma__s email to friends and family. Some know pharmacists or others in that field so they are doing some checking for me. I think Canada would be safe. I haven't checked Wal Mart yet so that is a pharmacy I will call. --Stefkay--did you have your baby yet? --Jessica--My Dr and I have talked about Prednisone..........he has used it before, it does pose some risks to the fetus unfortunately. We will try being on a "good" blood thinner this time, hopefully it will work. I know this is an aggressive dose for my condition so we just keep hoping it will work! Maybe we might try a stereroid if this doesn't work. I just don't know if I can keep doing this. Thanks Stephanie

Hi Stephanie, nope haven't had her yet, but I am due in less than 2 weeks. I'm sure that someone will step up with some help or information for you. I so hope that you can get help with this as it makes me mad to think about how much these shots are and what good they can do. It's not fair! Also, my dr. had talked about prednisone as well and he said the same thing about the risks, that at this point they outweighed the benefits so we did not do it this pregnancy. Had I m/c'd again he said he might consider it for next time but thank God everything was ok. I'm still nervous until I have her here in my arms. Good luck to you and keep us posted if you can!

Stefkay, I knew it was getting pretty close :) That is so exciting!! I know if I can make it as far as you I will feel the same way--nervous until they are HERE and in your arms! Good luck with everything. I'll keep ya posted on my end too. Hopefully I will have some more info soon on what we should do. I don't look forward to starting ths shots but in some ways I feel more normal taking them now than not. I guess it makes me feel somewhat closer to what might be a happy ending...........one thing we do think about is seragocy. My neighbors says she would carry our baby in a heartbeat...........I know that is so strange but in the end it would be our baby. I hope we don't have to do that but if this doesn't work with the Lovenox we might??
