Birth Control Complications

I have been on birth control for only 3months. In late november I had my period as scheduled, then in early december I forgot 2 pills and 3 days later I had very heavy bleeding for about 3 days. I went to the doctor and they put me on provera to help with the bleeding. It is now end of December and I haven't had my period. I am a week late. I took a pregnancy test 3 days ago but it was negative. I have all the symptoms of pregnancy but I don't know if what happened earlier this month is the cause. Any help would be useful.
