Im on the pill microgon 30, and have been for 2 & half years. Recently iv had a bad throat i couldnt breave properly so i went to the doctors who prescribed me antibioticks (amocillyn) she told me to take 1 three times a day, well i havent needed to take all 3 in one day as my breathing has got better but whilst taking the antibioticks i have been taking my pill everynight. well since the friday i have had s_x twice once on Sunday & once on Tuesday (used no other contraception just my pill) & now my fiance is paronoid that i could be pregnant although i havent been taking the antibioticks 3 times a day. Then i went bk tuesday to get more of my pills where i was then told my blood pressure is to high for my age. It was then that the doctor told me that when i am next due on my period which is in 2 weeks time that i should miss it and roll staight on to the next packet of pills. If i do that i wont know whether i would have a period or not !!! what i would like to know is... how long before i can take a test ??1 or 2 weeks after the s_x ?? & it will be able to show if im pregnant or not ?? also im still taking the pill so will it be ok to take a test whilst taking the pill still ??

Usually antibiotics will reduce the effectiveness of the pill, I am not familiar with the brand you are taking so I would check this with your doctor but it seems that there is a chance that you can be pregnant. Also, when you are given antibiotics you really need to take them exactly as they are prescribed and finish the full rx regardless of how you are feeling. What I don't understand is why is your doctor advising you start your new pack of pills without the 1 week break for a period? I really think you need to give your doctor a call. If you are in fact pregnant, continuing to take the pill can be dangerous. If you want to test, I would test 2 weeks after s_x. Good luck.

Thank You for the reply.... The only reason my doctor said this time to miss my 7 day break because last month my period was 5 days early. the situation is that my last pill on a pack is a wednesday and i dont normally come on till the sunday night but last month i came on the last day of my pill taking so this month she said skip the break so that the antibioticks dont bugger the pattern up this time and then after my next ack of pills my period shoul be ok again, x

ok first of all, this is why diseases come about that can't be treated. it goes the same for the virus as it does for us. if you give a human a weakened form of a virus, the body will make an immunity to it. well if you give a virus a weakened treatment it will change to become immune to the medicine being administered. these guys with the fancy "MD" after their names are doctors for a reason. not for someone who doesn't know anything medical to second guess their treatment. good grief. if you can't follow a "take 3 pills a day" order, you shouldn't be having s_x. and it only takes a little of the antibiotics to render the pill useless. clindholm: i think the doc wants her to skip the 7 day inactives because being on the antibiotics is pretty much like being on inactives that whole time and the 7 days from her pill would just be like adding another week onto the time her pill's been useless.

If her doctor is trying to treat a *virus* with antibiotics he didn't earn his "fancy MD" t_tle. Bacterial infections are treated with antibotics. Viral infections are treated with antiviral medications (which are rare and have limited effectiveness, so are usually only prescribed in life-or-death situations like AIDS or viral meningitis)
