I think the first sperm can get to the fallopian tube in hours. Then it has to wait for an egg if one has not just been released. If the egg was released more than 24 hours previous, it is probably no longer viable. The sperm can hang around for days (5). Once fertilized, it may be another 5 days before the egg implants in the uterus.
