The University of Minnesota, in a combined effort with other research inst_tutes, have reported that supplements of soy isoflavones have been linked to fewer episodes of hot flashes as well as less severe hot flashes. If further research continues to validate this report, it would be of great benefit to all women. Hot flashes and their companions, night sweats, are the main topic of concern for women who are experiencing menopause. A study of the data collected, indicated that when women ingeste 54 milligrams of soy isoflavone supplements daily for a period of six weeks up to a full year, 21% reported fewer hot flashes and 26% reported milder hot flashes. According to Mindy Kurzer, co-author of the study, “Our overall conclusion was that soy isoflavones do in fact have a significant effect.” Currently, treatment for hot flashes has been limited to hormone therapy, which is suspected of increasing a woman's chances of getting br___t cancer as well as other severe health issues. Although, preliminary, and sometimes controversial, research into the benefits of soy have been associated with br___t cancer, most professionals agree that there is no harm in using it in moderation.
